You’re really underestimating how big Justin Timberlake is. We’re talking about one of the biggest male pop stars out there (I think only Bruno and Sheeran can compete with him, not sure I’d count Drake with his genre). He’s played the Super Bowl (twice!) and is currently billed #1 at IHeartRadio fest over the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Jack White, Carrie Underwood and others which kinda says something about his popularity. Among the discography you listed, you conveniently happened to leave out Can’t Stop The Feeling which was absolutely huge. Even with the poor MOTW reception, he still garnered a shit ton of attention around it. A poor album and and subpar halftime show really hasn’t affected his status all too much.
If you don’t think that JT has enough clout to headline then I don’t know what to tell you other than the fact that you’re obviously wrong. It really sounds like you’re letting you’re distaste of JT get in the way of your reasoning. I don’t even know why you’re comparing him to Drake anyways. If anything, you should be comparing Drake to the ACTUAL hip-hop/rap headliner we’re supposedly getting and ask why we’re getting Childish Gambino rather than Drake with this logic.
Also, GV has been trying to land JT for a long time now so if you’re wondering why they’re choosing him to headline, the best answer may actually be because they want to and he hasn’t played before, while Drake has.

I’m looking forward to Coachella being unique next year and not having Drake. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls an Outkast/LCD Soundsystem next year.
Every festival should just book Drake next year, I guess.
Unless a fest doesn't enjoy making money, I don't see why not. He's as close to a sure thing as there is. Maybe he doesn't after his massive tour coming up but I wouldn't be mad seeing him on the poster for this, Gov Ball, Lolla, etc
I’m not sure why people think Drake is a sure thing. His tour with Migos is selling horribly right now.

Did Calvin get bad reviews? Like, I know lots of people outright don’t like him, but I thought he was fine for those he did? Drake outright put on a bad show that even his fans dumped on.

I don't really know but I figured if I said Drake was the worst someone would say Calvin was worse.

Has to be Drake IMO
I would go as far and say Drake was the worst, most disappointing headliner I've EVER seen at a festival

DRAGON ENERGY - I never said you should want Drake. I'm making the case for why it's Drake > JT for where we are now and where we will be in 2019
eversoslowly - I'm not underestimating how big JT is. If you read, I recognize he's a star. He was booked for the Super Bowl after Jay said, "Nah." and put on a lackluster performance at that. He's booked over Jack White and Carrie Underwood because obviously. He's over Fleetwood Mac because by and large, iHeart is a pop festival in 2018. Look at the lineup, they're not catering to Fleetwood fans. I didn't mention "Can't Stop the Feeling" because while I do acknowledge it did major numbers, as a fan of pop I don't understand why. I know he's garnered the clout to headline, that's not my issue. I'm saying he's the wrong choice. And why not compare him to Drake? If he's your #1 then it's a fair comparison. Not to mention their music gets played on the same radio stations, and I'd bet there's a fair amount of crossover between the two fanbases.
gocatsnu - A quick Ticketmaster check shows he's essentially sold out MSG twice, the United Center twice, STAPLES twice, Oracle twice. If that's doing horribly where do I sign?
Delicious Meatball Sub - it's a mid album, to be sure. But like Eminem, like 21 Pilots, like Post Malone, like [insert artist who recently dropped a mediocre album here], people don't care about reviews

Yeah at this point Drake falls into the category of acts I would enjoy at a festival but won't pay his ticket prices. I'd rather him than JT or Childish or Florence easily.
What the deuce is going on here? Do your calendars go straight from 2014 to 2016?
He had a chance at Coachella and he laid a giant turd. I was there. I done smelt it.
I've never seen Drake live and I like his music more than the currently rumored headliners, is all I'm saying. If JT & Gambino are actually confirmed I hope they get something more out of left field for the 3rd headliner.
For me, Drake > JT/Gambino/Florence/Eminem/The Weeknd/Lady Gaga/Guns N Roses/Calvin Harris

One would think that ZDLR might play solo though. Obviously all depends on him finally finishing is record. Big if there though. I do think we see him perform on his own before Rage returns.

I was working in a music store in 00/01 and I remember seeing a ZDLR solo album on our upcoming release sheets. 2018 still waiting.

I have a big payday coming in next week. All depends on my friend the Nigerian Prince sending me his inheritance.
Considering the guy has been recording for like three years, I wouldn’t be surprised when the album does finally pop up. It will inevitably drop at some point and Coachella really has no need to bring Rage back to play roughly the same set. ZDLR plays first.
