According to Launchy over on the Roo board, Firefly has one headliner that's better than any of theirs (Em, Killers, Muse).
I'm going to assume it's one of the 3 discussed previously (Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, Tame Impala), but if it's not...things could get pretty exciting!
I'm saying, it's Radiohead. It only makes sense to book the best headliner ever to wash out the taste of 2017's bucket of slop headliners. Believe in something.
I'll eat a hat if Radiohead play a show in the US in 2018.

Why is Radiohead not being discussed as a possible headliner? They're not touring and the booking agents at goldenvoice obviously have an in with them since they played coachella twice in the last 5 or 6 years. I know it doesn't match firefly's target demographic, but fests always do well with Radiohead on the billing.

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of a mislead? All I'm trying to do is bring positivity while everyone else settles for an optimum scenario of Jack White and Arctic Monkeys, which is pretty whack since they both already played firefly and I was present for both those sets. And, honestly, wasn't that impressed by either. In comparison to Radiohead anyway.. Did they ever say specifically they weren't touring or playing NA dates this year? Are they going to hit the Philly market for A Moon Shaped Pool in 2019? That makes even less sense.

we're lucky they came to the US twice in two years. They're done touring the US this cycle.

So they completely skipped the entire mid-Atlantic, the most densely populated urban area in the country, in their touring for A Moon Shaped Pool.. And that sounds more plausible to you than them playing Firefly? Really?

They arent playing Firefly. They are done touring the US until they have a new album. Get over it.

Pssssst.....it’s not really a mislead if everyone already understands that it’s not realistic....
They have literally never missed those markets on tour in the past. I mean if they don't play Philly till the next album cycle it will literally be about a decade since they played Philadelphia by then.

Is it unrealistic simply because of the nature of the festival and previous lineups? Because I would have thought sir Paul was an impossibility, till he showed up in 2015. I'm joking about being confident in their appearance at firefly, but I'm not joking about it being in the realm of possibility.

there is a very short list of acts that could single handily get me to any fest, let alone a day, and as much as i love AM and their set last time they were here they are not one of those acts.
If you could pair them with Bon Iver or Tame it would probably get me there for a day.
personally not into either. but im really just hoping to find a day worth hitting up here so id just need like 3 more acts to make me happy that share AM day if they do play.

how is saying a band who is not playing is playing bringing positivity?

Because all the other assertations for headliners are goddamn grim. And homogenized. I just want this fest to redeem itself.

I respect your quest for positivity. Radiohead is probably my favorite band and as much as I'd love to see it happen I can't imagine it. While they could but in the realm of possibility they are on THE FRINGES. They didn't do the same type of tour that they did for previous albums. AMSP was very limited, hitting very very few markets. They did two nights in NYC which in a way covers the Philly/DC/Baltimore area. Not ideal but it is what it is.

I hate and accept this. We'll find out soon anyway.

Em - Jack White - AM - Tame Impala plus a decent undercard would get this back to 2016 attendance levels.
I’d say it would get it back to 2015 attendance if we’re being honest. Jack AM and Tame alone would get the rock crowd and original demographic to come out, and there’s no denying there’s gonna be enough shitty rap and EDM in the undercard to get the college kids there.
Also, if we want to talk unrealistic, Jack White is not very realistic either. Three festivals within 200 miles of each other, within three weeks of each other are really going to all share 2 headliners? Please.

Jack White seems iffy given that, but this year the headliners are so recycled that it wouldn't be impossible for him to play all three.

Festive Owl said that JW-Em-Killers will be the trio at a lot of fests and we already have seen plenty with Em/JW so it seems more likely than not.
