I'll be honest... I wasn't thrilled with their set in 2014. I'd be glad to see them again though, certainly over most of the other options.
Edit- If I had to choose, I'd want Jack White personally.
For whatever reason, I think seeing them at night in the headliner spot will be an vast improvement over a sunset pre-headliner spot where a lot of the crowd was just getting ready for Foo.

mgreco also wrote on the Reddit that Eminem as the #1 "is not guaranteed at all from what I'm told".
Which I think lends some intrigued to the idea that they have something up their sleeve. Maybe remove the 4th/5th HLers and stack it with: Elton John • Eminem • Arctic Monkeys.

I was given a debriefing about some lineup stuff and i'll just refer back to one thing I posted earlier, which is that with Eminem being literally on every lineup so far i'm waiting for the first festival who DOESN'T have him on the bill. I'm probably just playing devil's advocate with that, but if a fest doesn't drink the Eminem koolade this year, they might have something cool planned. Plausible or no?

Hypothesis: AM has a goldenvoice deal and is doing both Panorama and Firefly and is announcing both of those festivals next week
To go a step further, I wouldn't be shocked if they were the headliner supposed to play Coachella, then dropped out late (numerous sources have indicated Eminem got booked at Coachella very late) if their album keeps getting delays. Maybe they were supposed to hit all three, now will just do Firefly/Pano/Coach '19.

Only weird thing there would be Coach getting Firefly/Pano seconds.

Gov Ball and Firefly in a matter of two weeks with Eminem/Jack White would be somewhat strange. Although I'd rather have Jack White, it would make sense Firefly grabbed Tame Impala and/or Arctic Monkeys before they head overseas. Still think there is an "out of left field" type headliner in the mix.
Eminem - Arctic Monkeys - Green Day - Tame Impala Paramore - Halsey - Odesza - Portugal the Man
Eh still too optimistic prob. Doubt we are avoiding Chainsmokers.
Edit- didn't Eminem do some song with the hot coffee pot lyrics?

Yeah - it's on his anti-Trump freestyle that's sorta becoming a YouTube meme.
I don't know if anyone is actually giving any real hints in these posts, but basically let's say I'm interpreting this correctly and it's Launchy (Eminem, Arctic Monkeys) vs. mikeg (No confirmations, but something cool planned). I might just take the safe AM bet.
Okay that's enough (probably wrong) speculation. Time to go drink.

Kendrick did FYF/Pano '16 then Coachella '17 so it's not unprecedented that a headliner wraps around to end at Coachella after doing previous year's GV fests.
Could see them booking AM with an option for headliner or sub depending on U.S. success of LP6.

Maybe I’m wrong but in what world does AM get booked higher than Green Day?
Eminem - Arctic Monkeys - The Chainsmokers - Tame Impala
Pretty respectable.
I was going to say that, but it just seems weird that Eminem would be the only non repeat headliner (and no new rock headliner). I mean Tame Impala was here 2 years ago and even the Chainsmokers only 3. I’d dig it though, it would be fine for me. I’d rather sub Jack White for AM though personally.
11/17: Slowdive* 11/19: Caribou* 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Why is Radiohead not being discussed as a possible headliner? They're not touring and the booking agents at goldenvoice obviously have an in with them since they played coachella twice in the last 5 or 6 years. I know it doesn't match firefly's target demographic, but fests always do well with Radiohead on the billing.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb

You're not wrong, AM would not be billed above Green Day at any US festival.
