probably too optimistic I know but whatev
Booking Green Day and Arcade Fire this year should really be no brainers for Firefly. Mass appeal, deep catalogs, worthy headliners that aren't budget destroyers like a Beyonce or U2 would be.
I hope so. I would like to see both if I’m being honest.
Is there some reason people aren’t just assuming Beyoncé will get a make up set here too?
Seems pretty logical to me. I’m not a huge Beyoncé fan, but from a ticket sales standpoint she’s one of the few headliners capable of erasing mistakes on the rest of a lineup.

i mean was Beyonce ever really confirmed? I know it seems plausible with the wonky top 5 we had last year, but someone of her level playing here just feels unrealistic anyways, even if we did get sir paul taht one time.
also is it really a makeup set if it was never announced?

Firefly is probably the closest thing the East Coast will ever have to a Coachella in terms of attendance and it definitely skews towards a college crowd, so I don’t see any reason GV wouldn’t book Beyoncé for both.

i dont quite think its about GV wanting to book her for both, but more so about the fact that the only fest lineups B has appeared on are her husbands and the premier festival of the world, so im not sure if its quite logical for the next fest she plays to be one that isn't even in the big 4 and is in Dover Delaware, not the most glamorous town in the world.
hey man, i'd love if she played, but ive just been getting my hopes up way too high for this fest and even recognizing her as a possibility feels wrong.

Agreed that going in with any expectations for a Firefly lineup is a mistake. If it wasn’t for the Goldenvoice connection I don’t think she’d be on anyone’s radar. After last year’s attendance the fest does need a bit of a bounce back year and it’s tough to see them going with a legacy act like McCartney again, with the exception being Springsteen.
also when panorama was first announced music outlets were referring to it as "Coachella East" lol
Very true. Panorama has delivered solid lineups, but is always going to be limited by its location. There’s really no reason Firefly shouldn’t be able to consistently draw in the area of 80,000 attendees when you consider how much easier it is for people to get to than a festival like Bonnaroo. It’s a festival that has everything going for it, but good lineups... a not so minor detail.

I mean, shouldn't the takeaway of last years failure just be to bounce back by using the old strategy of a steady diet of alt-rock mixed with electronic, hip-hop, and nostalgia? This thing sold 75-80k tickets with Mumford + Kings of Leon + Florence. That was an very plain and unsexy (albeit solid) headliner group, and when paired with a good undercard it was a successful.
They're not getting Beyonce to this - so go back to basics with rock and throw in Chainsmokers, Halsey, and Lil Pump for the kids.

at this point what "basics" are left? Arcade Fire? Black Keys? they've booked every decent high level modern rock band that still tours at this point, including the killers and kings of leon twice
* forgot the black keys have also already played this

I personally would love for them to go back to their old formula for lineups because the last year I went was 2014. That lineup had Foo Fighters, OutKast, Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino, Cage the Elephant, Tegan & Sara, Phantogram, Portugal. The Man, Local Natives, Tune-Yards, Courtney Barnett, Iron & Wine and Weezer.
I do agree the overall pool of headlining rock bands in general just isn’t very deep. Arcade Fire’s last couple albums have been a dip in quality, Bon Iver and QOTSA aren’t going to attract a massive crowd. New albums from Jack White and Arctic Monkeys might generate a bit of interest, but tough to blame festival bookers too much for the lack of rock with the limited options.

I'd say the modern rock "basics" left for them are Green Day, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Coldplay, Phoenix.
They could also with a co-headliner day like they did in 2014. Something like QTOSA/TheNational or Interpol/Paramore or MMJ/BonIver.
And both Firefly's classic headliners (Paul and Tom) were huge successes, so why not just call up The Who, Elton, Billy, Stevie, DMB, Neil Young, Aerosmith, etc. They're all still around.

i think you meant 2013. And of those 6 artists you suggested to co headline the only realstic one would be Paramore unfortunately. You gotta remember it was Foster The People and Vampire Weekend, 2 pretty main stream alt acts. If we were to get something like that again it would probably be The xx/ Phoenix
Haha. Maroon 5 is in New Orleans and then Florida with one day (Friday) in between. They aint stoppin in Delaware to play nor are they playing four straight days in four different cities.
Edit- If this was correct though, that would be a pretty good result all things considered for FF2018.

I think we all realize that the festival bubble is real, but another thing to consider is that 75-80K festivals are becoming a thing of the past all over the world.
There are too few big acts that can bring in such ticket sales.
If Firefly aims for 50K each year, similar to what GovBall does, they will stand a much better chance.
I don't really see it as a fit. Firefly has never really been a jam fest, and any jam elements it had are gone. I think a John Mayer solo show would be a better bet here.
Eminem - Imagine Dragons - The Chainsmokers - Lorde
One (garbage) rock band in the headliner group with 3 albums to their name. Even last years crap fest had 2. Eminem wouldn't be able to save this from bombing.

I'll have to keep to my word that if The Chainsmokers AND Imagine Dragons headline I'll autoskip. I mean... that'd be quite a difficult hole to dig out of. I'd have to throw up first and then come back and look at the rest of the lineup.
