Watched the first two last night. So damn good. I already wish they had made more than 18.
Weird how they keep on referencing Bowie's character from the original series. I think most of this was filmed in 2015, so maybe there is a chance he pops up?

I didn't think about that it was filmed before he died. It does seem like there is a possibility that he might show up. (Edit: Oh, I guess not. That's a bummer.)
Super sad seeing Catherine Coulson (the Log Lady) looking so rough, but at the same time, also really cool that she got to be involved in it before she died. It's such a shame there won't be any Jack Nance (Pete). He was always one of my favorites from the original seasons.
Having just rewatched the first two seasons a couple of months ago, it's very weird seeing the same people looking so much older. It took me forever to recognize Madchen Amick (Shelly).
The whole thing was so classically Lynch and so classically Twin Peaks. I loved every minute of the first two episodes.
Just read an article that says the talking tree was supposed to be the dancing dwarf from the original series.
We were speculating on that when we watched last night. (Also, if you haven't seen it already, I love him in Carnivale, another great show that was cut short after two seasons.)
After starting it seven years ago, I finally wrapped up season two of Twin Peaks and watched Fire Walk With Me... FWWM is actually pretty good, and season 2 definitely got worse before it ended of a very high note of the last two episodes.
Watched the first two episodes of the new stuff... I'm hooked in. It's about what I expected it to be and it reminds me of some of the better aspects of Inland Empire.
I just finished the first two seasons and FWWM. Also, watched the first two episodes of the new season. I had watched a few episodes in my younger days but never really got into it until now. It's really amazing to see how much the show changed in season 2 once Lynch/Frost started working on movies and got sidetracked. I really love the series, though. I can't wait to see the Trent Reznor and Sky Ferreira (etc.) cameos.
I also heard "the arm" in the new episodes referenced in Fire Walk with Me.
Side note: Jeff Jensen is doing a podcast for EW for each episode. He was great at recaps back in the Lost days.
Episode 8 of the new season might be one of the best things I've ever seen on television. Lynch/Frost outdid themselves on that one.
Interesting to hear what other people thought of it. I've been pretty on board with the season so far. The Dale/Dougie story line has been a little draggy and Naomi Watts' acting is insane. I assume that's somewhat on purpose as there is a lot of seemingly intentional bad acting, and I've never noticed her being at this level in anything else, but it stands out even for this show. But overall, I have enjoyed it. To me, though, Episode 8 mostly seemed like a piece of David Lynch's video art. Taken as that, it's one thing. But as an episode in the series, I thought it was boring and self-indulgent. I get that there were elements of it that tied in and were potentially very important to the overall story, but there was also what seemed like fifteen minutes of mushroom cloud exploding. I don't know. Maybe I'm just too lazy to truly enjoy an episode like that.

I really like Naoma Watts character. She's a bit neurotic and OCD and all over the place and nagging and dramatic all at the same time... her character reminds me a bit of the original season 1 cast's acting that was so over-the-top. They calmed down a bit in season 2... or just a little bit.
I am a huge Laura Dern fan and love her in the show, too.
I also love the whole atomic bomb explosion/id-other relationship. I think he drew it out because he didn't want it to seem like something instantaneous... it was, instead, something that triggered a series of other events like dominoes. I am one of those weird folks who watches weird movies, though. 🤓

The thing that's been getting on my nerves this season is the slowness of it. I'm sure it's very intentional, but there have been times when things just keep going for too long, both plotwise and cinematically. It crosses the line between discomforting and boring at times.
That being said I thought that sequence in episode 8 was beautiful, but yes, also self-indulgent

Yeah, it sometimes feels like they have 18 episodes to tell 10 episodes worth of story, but by god, they are going to use all 18 episodes. I do believe that Lynch has a vision and does everything purposefully, but I think that on this one, I'm just not sure I'm totally in. I'm definitely not out yet, but I'm less enthusiastic than I was after the first few episodes.

the idea that this is going to wrap up in 18 episodes may be misguided

I'm not really sure what you are getting at. I realize that they may get additional seasons, and whether they do or not, the whole thing is not necessarily likely to ever feel wrapped up. But that doesn't really change my point, which is that this season is allotted 18 episodes, and it doesn't always feel like they have enough substance to fill even those 18 episodes in a meaningful way.
Took me a few days to deal with the mindfuck but okay.
That was one of the single most affecting hours of television I've ever seen. For better or worse. It was all so uncomfortable and I saw someone say the ending gave off the feeling of waking up from a nightmare which I think sums it up perfectly. You realize something's amiss then boom cut to black.
We just rewatched fire walk with me last night and are going to rewatch the series while we have a showtime subscription. There's so much to take in. But it was a wonderful ride.
