Even in 2015, when the lineup dropped there was the randomness of Tears for Fears, Slayer, Earth Wind and Fire, and Atomic Bomb. Acts that, at the time, seemed to be out of left field and were pleasant surprises.
Last year we got absolutely nothing like that. Band of Horses? Claypool Lennon? Everything else was either totally expected or hardly relevant to inforoo.
The problem with attendance last year was that college kids (the bread and butter of the festival industry) did not know who LCD Soundsystem was and did not care about Dead and Co.
True, but I think that Bonnaroo also lost a lot of festival veterans who were less-than-pleased with the undercard offerings. The undercard was mediocre, bland, and unoriginal, and the undercard is an important factor for the types of attendees you find on this forum.

Anyone see Cymande on Sunday? I left in the morning.

I saw them. It was fantastic. I thought about including them as a "wild card" but didn't view them as very "wild" because of their lack of popularity. But I guess they were last year's, even less popular, Atomic Bomb.

I'm still waiting to see Lorde on one of these lineups. Hope she tours next year. She was fantastic at Lolla.
Lorde and Grizzly Bear are the two names I'm surprised haven't popped up on any of the announced lineups yet. Gives me hope both will be in the US.
Both acts were pretty selective on their last fest runs. You didn't see Grizzly bear everywhere in 2013, I was still shocked Lolla got them over P4K and I loved every minute of it. Lorde was one of the best things about Lolla 2014, and didn't hit a lot of fests that year either. Would be shocked if Roo didn't get Lorde as the higher billed undercard pop act next year. Grizzly played in 2013, and unless Shaky nabs them...no excuse for Roo to miss out.

Is lorde confirmed touring next year? I know there's a rumored album.

If by rumored you mean she's talked about it a couple times. And how many artists release albums without touring? She seems to enjoy playing live and at festivals, so it seems like a decent bet she'll be around next summer.
At least my dreams of Brand New playing the NMH time slot and Pixies closing the Which Stage on Sunday haven't been crushed yet. Shakey Knees probably won't take them since they played 2015, and I don't think they've been announced for European feativals.
Also The Avalanches haven't been ruled out right? There's still hope.....for now.

I thought the avalanches were considered likely because their social media followed Coachella and bonnaroo a while back. I certainly hope they're on the farm.

There's no way they put Brand New in a tent. That would be even more stupid than Luda in a tent

Brand New would have a niche audience at Bonnaroo. Put them up against some big pre headliners similar to NMH and it would work. They wouldn't close the Which Stage and to have them during the day on a big stage would be lame. Brand New shows are meant to be intimate, with a little bit of chaos.
Anybody else worried that we seem to be taking Chance as a given? Dude is rumored for every fest in the world. Eventually he's gonna have to say no to somebody.
I doubt he would say no to Bonnaroo considering he was there this year and last year just for fun. Also he tweeted "see you next year Bonnaroo". I also doubt Bonnaroo would say no to booking Chance. That would be extremely dumb. Something very unexpected would have to happen for him not to be booked.
Since Bonnaroo booked Third Eye Blind last year, The Offspring doesn't seem far fetched. I'd almost expect it. I could see them playing a similar time slot to Third Eye Blind too.
