Look at their lineup and think about acts that arent listed and will be touring.. A lot of great stuff still available.
Agreed. Disappointed to miss out on Bon Iver, the xx, and some others but not surprised. Give me some combination of Sigur Ros, the national, Lorde, and Alt-J and I'll be happy.
Avalanches, Fleet Foxes, Shins, Phoenix, Jagwar Ma, Nick Murphy, Anderson .Paak/NxWorries, Kaytranada, Empire of the Sun, Local Natives, Jim James, Francis and The Lights.. A lot is still in play.
It is always more fun to be optimistic and look at the glass as half full

You can probably cross Phoenix and Anderson .Paak off this list. Phoenix is supposedly headlining Shaky, and Anderson .Paak will be in Europe supporting Bruno Mars.

Drop scoops and I'll get my soul back from Starboy. It's preventing my optimism. Nah but your right. I want Roo to come through. Love that place and I have hope that it will provide something good for us all. Hoping for the same for your festival as well.

We actually got some decent acts from Primavera last year. LCD, Tame, Vince Staples, Kamasi, Dungen.
If we could sneak away with another 4-5 quality acts from the top half of this lineup I'd consider that a huge win. Maybe a few from The XX, Death Grips, King Gizz, BBNG, Pond, Local Natives

If we got the XX, Local Natives, and one more quality act (e.g, swans, Death Grips, Gizz) then I think I'd be content. All hope is not yet lost ... until Shaky releases their lineup.
Bonnaroo '15/'16/'17/'18/'19 - ACL '13/'14/'15/'17/'18 - Fun Fun Fun '14 - SXSW '13/'14/'15 - FPSF '16
2019 Shows: 4/30 - Vampire Weekend 6/28 - Father John Misty & Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 9/6 - Cardi B w/ Teyana Taylor 9/28 - Vulfpeck w/ The Fearless Flyers
Some combo of Fleet Foxes, Sigur Ros, Lorde, The National, Local Natives, The XX, Frightened Rabbit, Run The Jewels, and Umphrey's would go a long way for me. Obviously all won't be there but if half of them were that'd be a great start for me personally.
You can probably cross Phoenix and Anderson .Paak off this list. Phoenix is supposedly headlining Shaky, and Anderson .Paak will be in Europe supporting Bruno Mars.
Which leaves like 3 decent acts...
Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I think it's pretty clear that Bonnaroo will never release another great lineup. There's too much competition from European festivals, as well as regional festivals that are more conveniently located. The current festival landscape simply doesn't bode well for a festival in the middle-of-nowhere Tennessee in June.

This has been beaten to death, but it seems like they'll just go the Lollapalooza route and grab some solid headliners and then just try to hang in there with the undercard. Bonnaroo is still the best place in America to see a festival headliner, especially if it's someone rare. If I actually liked U2 it wouldn't have taken much on the undercard to get me to show up.

I think the real question is how much longer will Roo even release a lineup?
The issue is that festivals like Okee, Ultra and Hangout are going to snag the southeast college kid demographic because they release their lineup earlier and market exclusively for that demo. Shaky Knees and Beats are gonna steal the people mostly interested in those genres of music because they can invest in them with more depth than a grab-bag festival. European festivals are going to take a lot of the bigger names and rare acts that would actually draw people out to Manchester, Tennessee for five days.
You've gotta come out hard to convince people that the price of admission is worth it, especially when there are a lot of other costs associated with a Roo trip that might not exist for other festivals. Marketing on #vibes isn't gonna cut it.

They had one bad lineup....
There's been a downward trend since 2014 with no sign of reversal.
That's the real issue.
If I gave you $200 and you had the option to bet it on Roo having 50k+ attendance this year, would you?
Three years ago, I would have taken that bet any day of the week.

This is honestly a big reason I'm leaning towards Roo. Not a die hard but I know I probably won't see them at their own show. RHCP are overdone on the fest circuit but I don't hate them by any means so just throw some solid acts on the undercard and I'll be happy. Doesn't have to be anything crazy.

2014 was one of the best years they ever had. Of course 2015 was going to be a bit of a step down from that. But 2015 was still fantastic. This years was dog shit.

I'll concede to Launchpad that two years doesn't necessarily make a trend, but the quality of the lineup has dropped off significantly since 2013/2014. When you factor in growing competition both in the states and abroad, it's reasonable to have doubts about Bonnaroo's future. I do think they will sell more tickets next year, but at this point, Bonnaroo is in a tough position where they absolutely need to go big on the headliners to compensate for a mediocre undercard.

U2 is gonna be fucking awesome there no doubt. can't wait!

Combined with rising prices, camping passes, questionable scheduling in terms of set lengths, and the rise of other festivals there are a lot of factors that lend credence to the belief that the best years might be in the past.
I want to be proven extremely wrong this year and be ridiculed for even saying these things, seriously. There's just nothing to give me that confidence right now.

They had one bad lineup....
I agree, but it's so hard to shake this gloomy feeling.
I don't expect nor require Roo to "knock it out of the park" with it's undercard. What I do expect is for the undercard to feel wacky and ridiculous. Bonnaroo is supposed to be the place where I can see Umphrey's McGee, Japandroids, NOFX, R. Kelly, Billy Idol, McCoy Tyner, Eric Andre, Ween, The Weeknd, Dolly Parton, and Megadeth all in the same day. I want to look at the lineup and go "lol" but in a good way. A Bonnaroo undercard should, in a word, be delightful. It doesn't have to be cool or hip or anything like that, it just needs to be a big pile of dumb fun.

The problem with attendance last year was that college kids (the bread and butter of the festival industry) did not know who LCD Soundsystem was and did not care about Dead and Co.
I know people around here point to the undercard; I myself think the undercard was what was really lacking. But the way we think around here is such a bubble and not representative of what the majority of people think at all.

In a way it's hard to agree that Bonnaroo's problem is as simple as Shakey Knees stealing all the good undercard acts, because the real fun part about old Bonnaroo lineups were the random acts that weren't playing anywhere else.
U2 will sell a shitload of tickets, and the lineup will be "good" from profit perspective, but at this point I'd be shocked if they actually had many of those left field acts on the undercard.
I agree with some sentiments above. U2 on the farm is a huge sell right now. That and distance from NC will make it hard to say no. Just want a decent undercard for value at this point.

Agreed. This year's undercard with next year's leaked headliners would have sold fine.

Ill take that bet all day everyday! I don't know why people get 1 subpar lineup and they lose all faith that they can rebound from that. It wasn't like they booked Nickelback and Godsmack on the same lineup (which would be awesome!!!) But seriously, I am willing to not only take that bet but willing to bet one amazing lap dance via snap chat that it will get closer to 70k.

I think a lot of people who shit on last year's lineup said exactly this. The undercard was fine for a major festival undercard, but it wasn't "Bonnaroo" lineup.

This man has the right idea. Thank you. It doesn't have to be some really rare diamond in the rough band that makes a roo lineup great. It's a well balanced undercard with fun and unique acts to see throughout the day/night. Lets just hope roo gets back to basics.
