Hozier is this Irish fellow with a knack for melody and a soulful voice. You probably know him from that "Take Me to Church" song that plays on the radio every 25 seconds.
Andrew Hozier-Byrne (age 24 - born in the 90's, in case you haven't felt old yet today), released his debut EP in 2013, which got him buzzing in the ears of Rubyworks in Ireland and Island Records in the US. In 2014 he released his second EP "From Eden" in March and his self-titled full-length debut in September. Propelled by the success of "Take Me to Church" (peaking #2 on the Billboard charts), the Hozier album also reached the #2 spot and has certified Gold status.
Hozier has a very soulful and melodic approach to music. He can both rock out with blues licks as well as slow it down with straight-up gospel. He has a very impressive impressive range that he likes to play with in his music ("Give me that deathless death" in TMTC), often hitting high falsetto notes with ease. He also has a knack for metaphor - he uses evocative imagery to both capture the emotion he's trying to present as well as convey a message ("she burns like rum on the fire" from "Cherry Wine"). I've listened to his album several times, and I find that it's one that just sticks with me. I'll often find myself humming it or otherwise thinking of the lyrics at random intervals throughout the day.

Live Show I haven't gotten the chance to see him yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing him at Roo, barring any major conflicts. He's got a great voice and I really enjoy his guitar tone, so I think it'll be a good show.
More of a deeper track fan of Hozier- Sedated, work song, haven't like his hits. He could be the best pop mainstream performance act this year. Save Florence.

Got lucky and saw him at the 9:30 Club in November and he puts on a fantastic show. He is very talkative with the crowd often adding insight to each song he performs with a funny story or anecdote. Also got a chance to meet him and he was a very nice and humble guy who was passionate about making meaningful music and figuring he performed at the VS Fashion Show that same week, I'm glad his fame hasn't gone to his head. I love his entire album and anyone who puts Natalie Dormer in their music video is a winner in my book.
