Against Me! is a punk rock band formed in Gainesville, Florida, in 1997 by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. Since 2002 the band's lineup has also included guitarist James Bowman and bassist Andrew Seward. After releasing three studio albums through independent record labels, Against Me! moved to Sire Records for 2007's New Wave, which reached no. 57 on the Billboard 200. Their fifth album, 2010's White Crosses, was their most successful, reaching no. 34. In 2011 the band launched their own record label, Total Treble Music, through which they plan to release future albums. In 2012 Grace publicly came out as transgender, beginning a transition to living as a woman and dropping her birth name. The band finished recording their sixth studio album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, during the summer of 2013, and released it on the twenty-first of January, 2014.

Live Show: I have yet to see Against Me! live, but I will be seeing them next Friday. I'll update after the show!
Personal Notes: I love this band and everything they stand for. Their anti-establishment messages is perfect for any angst filled individual. Also, their lead singer Laura Jane Grace is such a badass. In 2012 Thomas James Gabel came out as a transgender woman, and underwent the transformation to become Laura Jane Grace. Even though the music community is generally accepting it was a risky move. Their record from 2014 Transgender Dysphoria Blues was one of my favorite albums of last year. This show is sure to be a big sweaty mosh pit.
In 2008 one of my camp mates missed this show due to an impromptu nap she needed after pouring a water bottle full of vodka onto, in, and around her face.
I have seen them probably 7 or 8 times and they were one of my favorite bands as a teenager. They put on an absolutely fantastic show, very energetic and the crowd always sings along. My opinion kind of changed after their last appearance at roo, 2010 or 11 I think. I really didn't like the set and it really seemed like they even sang their old songs differently. I ended up leaving half way through and I NEVER thought I'd do that for them. I hadn't listened to any of White Crosses by that point either. After I did I was turned off. That changed with their latest one Transgender Dysphoria Blues. I fully support her choice to come out and make the change. She even sang several songs in the past to hint at this. I look forward to seeing them again this year and hope they are back to their old selves live.
To clarify a couple of things, Andrew Seward is no longer a part of the band, and they are actually a quartet. The lineup is made up of Grace, Bowman, Inge Johansson and Atom Willard.
