Biography: Wiz Khalifa is a rapper and singer from Pittsburgh, PA. Most known for his song "Black & Yellow", the Pittsburgh sports anthem single went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as the Pittsburgh Steelers made a SuperBowl run in late 2010 and early 2011. An avid supporter of marijuana, Wiz has been quoted that he spends as much as $10,000 a month on weed (youtu.be/TAjd1He7VhY). Wiz has built his crew and fan base, the "Taylor Gang", by giving away most of his music online for free and earning his income from touring and merchandise. Wiz is known for traveling with security and a large entourage featuring a rotating cast of Will, DJ Bonics, Chevy Woods, Light, Motor, Juels, Ricky, Breeze, Lonnie, Sledgren, Berner, Tuki Carter, Courtney, Peach, Juicy J and more. In June 2010, his mixtape "Kush and Orange Juice" was both the #1 Trending Topic on Twitter and the #1 Most Googled phrase for 3 days. In 2011, Wiz and Snoop Dogg released a colab movie, soundtrack and tour - "Mac & Devin Go To High School" on iTunes and Netflix. The movie's soundtrack featured the single "Young, Wild & Free" which has become a festival theme around the world. Wiz should also partially credited for the resurgence in popularity of Taylor Gang member, Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia. Juicy J's singles "Bands A Make Her Dance" and "Dark Horse" with Katy Perry both recently hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wiz just released his newest mixtape "28 Grams" for free download and his next album "Blacc Hollywood" is expected before year end.

Suggested Listening I would recommend first listening to the mixtape "Kush and Orange Juice". That's when Wiz was in his prime come-up stages and the music is incredible. I also really dig Flight School, Burn After Rolling, How Fly, Cabin Fever, Rolling Papers, and O.N.I.F.C., in that order. His newest mixtape "28 Grams" is pretty hard. A lot of trap beats with a grimy, sleazy sound. I really love it.

Physical Reaction/Live Show Some people will put their hands up and jump around but some are too drunk and stoned to do so. Wiz will encourage you to light up weed a couple times throughout the show. Big puffs of smoke arising from the crowd may get a nod from Wiz. Girls in the front will see pelvic thrusts and dance moves.
Interesting Facts His first name comes from older guys in his neighborhood as a kid, saying he was a "Wiz" at everything he tried. His grandfather gave him the last name of Khalifa, meaning successor or leader. His crew, Taylor Gang's name comes from buying pairs of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers as a kid. His mom couldn't afford expensive sneakers but she could afford a couple pairs of Converse Chuck Taylors. Wiz smokes his own herb, "Khalifa Kush" that's only available to the public at one official dispensary in California. His favorite alcohols are Bombay Gin, Jack Daniels Honey, Coors Light and Red Stripe. He is known for eating turkey bacon & cheese eggs for breakfast and turkey burgers, Buffalo Wild Wings, or his mom's spaghetti for lunch/dinner. Personal Notes Wiz has been one of my favorites since 2008. I liked watching his UStream shows and his songs subject matter. At the time, I worked at a radio station in Minneapolis and Wiz came through the station to do promo before a show in June 2009. He was really cool to me and I made sure he was taken care of. The following winter- we linked up again, did an interview and he followed me on Twitter. Since then we've just been cool. I see him around occasionally and he always shows love. These fun experiences definitely influence my perception of his music in a positive way and I've been a major fan for many years. I saw him again at Soundset this year plus I'll see him at Bonnaroo, the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) and Red Rocks this summer. I'm really looking forward to his Bonnaroo set, headlining the Which Stage after Fitz and The Tantrums and Broken Bells. Hopefully this wasn't too full of name drops, just being honest.
