Contrary to popular belief, Vampire Weekend does not have any vampires in their band. Or on stage.
The band members met while enrolled at Columbia University, beginning with a rap collaboration between Koenig and Tomson. They bonded over a shared love of punk rock and African music, and Koenig toured with The Dirty Projectors during a period of experimentation with African music, inspiring the band to incorporate world sounds into their earliest work. The band chose the name "Vampire Weekend" from the title of a short film project Koenig worked on during the summer between freshman and sophomore years in college. While home for the summer, Koenig watched a 1980s vampire film and was inspired to make a Northeastern version of the film in which a man named Walcott travels to Cape Cod to warn the mayor that vampires are attacking the United States. Koenig abandoned the project after two days. The band began playing shows around Columbia University, starting with a battle of the bands at Lerner Hall.[4] After graduating from college, the band self-produced their debut album while simultaneously working full-time jobs, Tomson as a music archivist and Koenig as a middle school English teacher. They just won album of the year from Rolling Stone.
They are the 2nd most added to lineup on bonnaroo.com
Too pumped to see these guys for the first time. They are playing mostly places with seats form what I seen. So seeing them at Roo, jumping around on the grass will be too good.
Solid all around on all albums (IMO). Love the new one, seems to have some more thought. Here are some songs:
You're far too generous. Everything past the Wikipaedia entry is a D+. Telling us that they're the second most added band does nothing. Nor does citing their placement on Rolling Stone's favourite albums list. These write ups have been pretty exemplary across the board though, so I suppose we were due for a lame duck.

I expect this to be a very fun show. I've been getting into their music more and more lately so this is perfect timing for me! It seems like their shows are very feel good and high energy. Looking forward to a great time at this one!

Can someone shed some light on VW live? I haven't really heard many glowing reviews from this board, and everything I've heard from outside the board has been lackluster. Really looking forward to this set though (as of now).

They aren't bad, but they don't really stand out live. Not much movement on stage, they kinda just get their job done and leave.

You haven't been reading the board then. Their Coachella set (from last year I believe) got tons of positive reviews from people their live and people who watched the stream. They're really good live.

I spend far too much time on this board, and I typically go with "Recent Posts" so I don't miss many threads. Aside from the Coachella reviews, there hasn't been much chatter. There don't seem to be many people touting their live show, and on inforoo that's pretty rare. If a band is good live, that sentiment is usually shared by many on this board. This thread is still on the first page.
It seems like their show is pretty average, but maybe it's a good thing that my expectations will be tamed. I'm still gonna try and get a nice spot up front.
Watch their Unstaged set. It's awesome. Also check out their other live festival sets. They put on a good show. It's not wacky or insane but they play their music well and keep getting bigger for a good reason. It's one of my most anticipated sets.
