I was there when he played in 09, and I was on the first row behind the pit drinking gin and juice, as well as enjoying some of his favorite other activities. That show was amazing, and I've always loved telling my friends about how you literally couldn't see the back of the crowd because of all the smoke. Plus there was literally a blunt or something of the sort being placed into your hand by a complete stranger every 15 to 30 seconds during the entire show. Absolute great time.
So naturally, when AC announced via facebook a few weeks ago that Snoop was playing at the Valarium here in Knoxville literally right after my graduation ceremony, I was ecstatic. I bought a ticket at noon on black friday, right when they went on sale. I was curious as to why he played the Valarium, but I figured it was because of AC or because Thompson-Boling was booked for graduation. (I was also curious as to why Wiz wasn't opening like he was on the rest of the tour, but my best guess is that he just wanted to watch the Browns/Steelers game.) In addition to Snoop being in such a small venue, the tickets were reasonable- only $35. The Valarium charges more than that regularly (Tiesto was $50), so it wasn't to save face. Naturally, the show sold out in a few days, and many of my friends didn't get tickets in time.
Well, the show last night was incredible! It was even better than his Bonnaroo show! He played almost everything I wanted to hear (except nothing from Paid tha Cost to be tha Boss), even though his set was only an hour and a half long. I was upset that he didn't do an encore, though. He even changed the lyrics of "Young, Wild, and Free" to:

Anyway, I got to thinking that this year might be the return of Snoop Dogg to Bonnaroo. He's just as big as always, and the number of big rap acts is quickly dwindling. The Valarium possibly didn't charge as much for his tickets because they bundled with a contract for Bonnaroo, or that was the theory we came up with lst night at least. Last time he was the Sunday pre-HL on What Stage. I think that this year he will be a LN Which act.
I was just trying to think of legitimate hip-hop headliners other than Eminem, Jay-Z/Kanye and Weezy.. this could very well be it. I'd love to see a Snoop show, if only once. Has anyone ever seen Baby Boy? Great flick.
He was a good time, but there's literally no reason to invite him back. It would be the exact same show.
Snoop is the man and the show was a fun time before Phish. No doubting that. But musically it wasn't anything special so I don't feel like we need him again. There's plenty of other fun acts to book.
