Anyone think we might see the return of the Lunar stage or something similar in 2012? With the continued success of Ultra and considering how well the IDentify festival did this summer across the US I'd have to say the demand for electornic music is at an all-time high. Will Roo try and cater to them this year?
If they did it right (and not have anything on it during the day aka no Greenday rock band experience), it would be a great idea. I hope they can get it all sorted out.
the lunar stage was so half assed and terribly thought out.
If they do it again, they need to do it right and make an all day enclosed tent, like Perry's stage at Lolla or the Sahara at Coachella.
I can't see it happening though, unless they expand centeroo. Bonnaroo is slow to spend on infrastructure
I don't know about you but an all-day tent, to me, seems like a bad idea. First of all the thought of seeing an electronic act during the day in the hot 98 degree sun of Bonnaroo just sounds terrible to me. I want to be able to move around. Also, EDM, especially the kind roo seems to be fond of, encourages use of a certain dehydrating, party starter NO NO WORD!!!. No judgements here, I just could see that causing a huge increase in heat related injuries at the fest. I say it should start it's first act around 8-9 PM, and then go into the wee hours of the morning. Just like the Lunar stage did, but during the day they can either just have it off or have Solar/Sonic stage-type performances. Or broadcast other sets to the new lunar stage like with Conan in 2010. There are an infinite number of ways for them to improve upon the Lunar Stage, which was a poorly executed great idea, in a way that will add to the fest for those who love EDM but not take away from it for those who don't.
As far as them needing to expand centeroo, I don't really see that being necessary. Get rid of those fucking stupid, overpriced food trucks, or put them in a pod or on shakedown or something, put the lunar stage where it originally was, put a tent over it and you've already taken care of a huge amount of sound issues. Now set up the speakers surround sound style, that way it can be loud without bleeding as much. It will still have a little bleed but no more than a regular tent would. And i'm sure there are other soundproofing techniques that cost a little extra that I don't even know about that 'Roo could certainly afford.
Still not counting on it, though.

Coming from someone who had to CAMP near the Lunar stage in 2010...it was awful.
The idea is great, but if you really want to listen to EDM all day then go to ULTRA. Having said that, I would have no problem with adding just another tent...Pull some of those cafe acts into a smaller tent to play during the day to give them some more exposure, and then at night it can be devoted to whatever EDM or DJ you want until 10 am or so.
What if they spent the money on these in all tents instead....http://www.bigassfans.com/application/commercial/stadium-concourse/

You're spot on with this, but Perry's was soooooo overheated the first day of Lolla. I remember standing just outside the tent and then starting to walk in where I felt an the temperature increase about twenty degrees. It felt like I was opening an oven. The second day when they took half the roof off was much nicer.
And to comment on moving cafe acts here, perhaps they should eliminate the one at the back of the What and make this area the Lunar stage. Face it into the What field so that way the crowd gets more evenly spread...
On second thought, that is a horrible idea since I typically hang out back there during headliners.
What's the weather like at Waka? I've never been. Is it as hot as roo?
And also just because no one died doesnt mean no one had heat or dehydration issues.
Yeah, upper 90s the whole weekend.
From what I understand the big difference is Waka cools way down at night being up in the mountains and all. That also gives you cool morning and a chance to rest up cool down, whereas Bonnaroo just stays hot.
I stand by what I have said before though the easy solution is to build a smaller adjunct stage on the side of The What and let dj's spin between what acts, and then give someone bigger like Bassnectar or Deadmau5 a 2 hour or so set after the headliner is over. They could even use the What screens, and sound for the bigger acts.
To those calling for an enclosed tent how many people will it hold and how bad will the line be to get in? For some reason I just do not see it working out very well.
I fucking hope so, the Lunar Stage was the best thing they ever did imo, but of course people who hate EDM is going to hate it. I'm already torn between EDC Vegas and Roo this year, another Lunar Stage or something similar would make my decision a lot easier.
people who had issues with the Lunar Stage obviously weren't busy having a good time IMO. i sure had a good time dancing.
Hahah what? So if you don't like EDM you can't have a good time?
Also, the more and more I see Jess post the more I think he's a robot or something. How many times can you bring up the Crystal method playing the bones theme and them using the screen from the lunar stage for the which? You'd think for how much you talk about it that the theme from bones lasted for the Crystal Methods entire 2 hour set.

How many times can you post the same huey lewis video, or the same "nanners" video, or the same 3 AM joke, or the same nugjar joke, or a million other things? A lot of times.

Fuck off you little punk they were playing the theme from Bones, and yes it was a great use for the screen. How many times can you sit around and be pissy about the fact that Bonnaroo does not actually just provide you with a dark cool cave you untz around in all day, or that they do not get the good indie electronic acts acts like Coachella. I mean tired jokes are better than your recent constant negativity and mocking people you disagree with.
Anyway carry on with asking for the wonderful nostalgic part of Bonnaroo that brought us such great acts as Green Day Rockband at 9 in the morning, along with drowning out the actual music being played by the button pushers. But hey lets be fair even if they did bring it back they could never really get acts that were cool enough for you anyway.
