Rage 3.0 was the textbook example of some things being better left in the past. I can't even blame all of it on Zach and the injury. The show I went to felt cashgrabby and kind of lifeless.
The original run was amazing and the 07/08 shows were still incredible. The last run made me sad and made me accept my impending boomerdom.
Naw. I went night 2 at United and it was electric. Just glad I made it to a show. Friend of mine went to the last Msg show and said it was a top 5 all time show and they dont even like Rage that much.

I guess you were hoping for the crowd to burn the building down. Ive been in a literal riot after seeing Rage so I dont need that again.

I was reading a Christopher Owens interview and he said a bunch of the songs on his new album are ones he’d been working on with JR before he died for a Girls reunion. Would have been very cool for a very small number of people.

REM is basically the only artist I haven’t seen that I’d travel for at this point. Rihanna, Oasis, more NYCH dates would all be repeats but I’d make an effort for, everything else is just an “it depends” situation.
been thinking all day about which indie bands I really need to get back and tour together again and unfortunately the answer at this point the answer is "Japandroids".
If we are talking about fringe indie rock bands that we want to see reunite, I'll take a package tour of Stellastarr, Ambulance LTD and the Bravery to relive some good early 00s Mercury Lounge memories.
I'm using the term "indie rock" in the colloquial sense - obviously these bands all signed to major labels and then faceplanted.
Not saying The Smiths would be the most popular reunion among the acts everyone is listing, but there's probably a higher number of people who would see a limited run Smiths reunion and think "I must find a way to get to one of these show or else I'm gonna die."
so for anyone in this thread, what reunion would this be for y'all?
probably daft punk and talking heads to me. especially if it was a double bill.
1. R.E.M. (I've seen them 9 or 10 times, five of which were in small venues, but I listened to little else in the 80's besides R.E.M., Elvis Costello, Squeeze, and Graham Parker, apart from what was shown constantly on MTV, so even though they're not bucket list for me, they been such a strong favorite of mine for a long time and, unlike so many other artists I can think of, their music never feels dated or loses its allure for me.)
2. Catherine Wheel (Great band, great songs, saw them do a free outdoor show in 2000 and then they broke up immediately after the tour. Now that I actually know the material well, I'd really like to see them live again.)
3. Oasis (Big bucket list energy for me here)
4. The Smiths (Same reason as Oasis)
I've always loved guitar bands which valued a great post-Lennon/McCartney melody more than crunchy riffs, and all of the above bands bands bring the melody in ample supply.
5. Talking Heads (I saw them on the Fear of Music tour. The live show was "just stand there and play and make it sound just like the record" mode back then, so I skipped three opportunities to see the Stop Making Sense tour because I had no idea how great that tour was going to be.)
As far as small band reunions go, I am happy I got to see Refused, Hum, Failure (x2 each) and Jawbreaker
But sadly never got to the At the Drive In reunion and I think that ship has sailed since they had drama again at the end of the 2nd run
Btw, Refused were going to announce a farewell tour a couple days after Dennis had his heart attack and that obviously got scrapped.
I just hope he recovers and they can still end it on their own terms.
Selfishly I'm not sure a 3rd time could top the first 2. Chicago 2012 was one of the most insane shows I've ever been to, the reunion energy in the crowd was palpable. I still get goosebumps watching grainy ass iphone4 youtube videos of that night. I went with my best friend and we ate burgers and got drunk at Kumas before the show
The 2nd time in Kansas (wow they actually came here) Dennis started the show in the pit and I got to scream "RATHER BE DEAD" with him into the mic.
These guys didn’t necessarily break up, but if people are including Deerhunter, I’d love to see TV on the Radio get back on the horse
TVOTR haven't built up this huge buzz during their hiatus. I can't imagine that a lot of people have bucket listed them, but everyone who was into them before likely wants to see them again. They're simply one of the best bands of this century. Glad I saw them three times, and once more would be great.
