Two Phish sets with Phish as the overall headliner would seal the deal on me going to Coachella and a couple other smaller fest this year and skipping out on Bonnaroo VIP. Not that I dislike Phish that much but with as many rarer acts recently touring or touring this year and having just been 2 years since a Phish double headliner it would be major letdown. How about any of these instead of a 2nd night of Phish: Radiohead, Roger Waters, Prince, Bjork, ATDI, Paul McCartney, Tool, Foo Fighters, Jane's Addiction, Coldplay, RHCP, Rammstein, Stone Roses, The Cure, The Killers, Morrisey...ect.ect.
Exactly, I'm saying it's affordable. I know it's Dr. Dre, I grew up on him. Only reason why I threw him in there is because I'm expecting a big hip hop act and think they're going to be it.
It's affordable if he's a headliner. They're not shelling out headliner cash for a pre-headline slot.
Your concept of financials is odd, to say the least.

I would agree up to but not including Chodeplay, Stone Roses or The Killers. I like Phish but one set is enough. The only problem is where do they fit the schedule for only one show?
Not what I'm saying. DMB has a dedicated following, don't know about Foo Fighters following.
Yeah, I'm sure Foo Fighters are selling out shows all over the world based on the fair-weathered fan base. C'mon now...
I get his point here. I am sure more people are following DMB around seeing his shows than people following Foo Fighters to see more than a couple shows. Just the nature of the fanbase.

They might be. DMB made their mark by being a tour band first, then albums later. Foos made their mark by releasing albums and then going on tour, henceforth would more than likely have more fair weathered fans going to the show if it came to their city.

Yeah, two different fan bases. I traveled to Columbus and Pittspuke to see Foo in September. Every show was 98% capacity. If AC books Foo, give them a 3-31/2 hrs and book some bands that Dave can jump up and jam with the rest of the weekend.
Bonnaroo 2008-2013
0ct 11 Pearl Jam
Oct 12 Pearl Jam
March 16 Arcade Fire
April 29 Arcade Fire
Sept 4 Wilco
Sept 9 The Hold Steady
Oct 16 Pearl Jam
Oct 17 Gaslight Anthem

Um. Isn't the way the Foos have done it the way most bands have done it? They aren't blazing a new path by releasing studio albums and then going on tour. I don't even understand this point. So one will cost more than the other at Roo because one started as a touring band and the other as a studio band, when both bands were started in the early 90s? I don't follow.

Your logic is flawed. At this point DMB = Foo Fighters.
Point is, DMB fans, though bro-ish, are similar to Phish fans, WSP fans, Dead fans, etc. They have devoted followers that devote their livelihoods to them. Yeah, I don't get it either. However, I would say Foo Fighters have more "normal" fans that would see them if they came to their city but wouldn't travel, say from New York City to Podunk City, USA just to see them.
For the record, I don't know why we're even talking about DMB's cost for Roo vs. Foo's.
My point was that the amount a band is touring or "around" (which is a point Marty was making) won't make them cheaper, which is what Marty was alluding to.
All this started because Marty said the lineup would look like this:
The Rolling Stones - Phish - Foo Fighters - Dre & Snoop
I'm not even a big Foo Fighters fan, I like their music and know a lot of it, but I don't rock out to them regularly or anything. My bigger point was that Dre & Snoop (as a tandem) are not a pre-headliner, and that's where Marty went awry.

You're more than likely right. I was combining 2009 & 2010 years "logic" as for headliners.

Which was my original point why it wasn't feasible.
Trust me, that top 4 would make me very, very happy, I just don't see how it's viable.
I'm indifferent towards DMB (I saw them a bunch in high school because I didn't know any better), but I like Foo. I think they'd put on a kick-ass rock concert if they were the Friday headliner. If it's Foo vs. RHCP? Give me Foo please.
For the record, I think Foo Fighters suck as well as DMB.
I really like both of them.
I don't own any of their albums and don't listen to them regularly, but I've liked a lot of Foo Fighter songs that I have heard and DMB is just a fantastic live act even if they have a fanbase that not many will like.
Anytime I've seen Dave or DMB at festivals it's been a fun show.
If I had a choice between the two for Roo this year I'd pick Foo Fighters. Never seen them live and have been reading a lot about their epic shows this year where they destroy for over 3 hours.

Did Bonnaroo up their ticket prices or not? I thought I read that somewhere, which is probably why I was throwing that stuff out. For those who just got on this thread, don't waste your time reading the last two pages.

You are the only person who seems to think this is true. Someone posted before that the pre-sale prices were identical to last year's.

If you could find where you read that it'd be great. I haven't heard that this year.

Did you see the part where I said I don't own any albums or listen to them regularly?
I don't have any DMB or Foo's on my ipod. But I have enjoyed Foo Fighters songs that I randomly hear on the radio (at least much more than a lot of the other songs on radio) and I used to love their old music videos when I was younger.
DMB is an act that I don't really care for but I also don't understand all the hate towards them. Seems like a lot of people bash the band because of some of their fans which seems silly to me. I have never gone to a DMB concert but I've seen him play at festivals and I think he's a great fun act. Nothing mindblowing but certainly a solid show.
I'm not particularly dying for either to be on the farm. Just saying if I had to choose one or the other I'd go for Foo
My dislike for DMB has more to do with Dave Matthews than anything else. I think his band contains a lot of very talented members but I just think that he is a poopy songwriter who writes boring, easy music and then let's his band make up for his meh skills as a songwriter.

That's a fair reason to dislike them. As I've never really paid attention to their music outside of live, festival shows I never cared one way or the other for his songwriting/lyrics. Maybe if I did look more closely at the lyrics I wouldn't be as kind. I just know that I've been in the crowd and enjoyed the music being played by the group.

Foos are OK, they're the most middle of the road of the big rock bands, which I think just makes them look good in comparison.
DMB is just the most boring band I think. That on top of their ultra devoted greek life fans just makes for a very bad combination.

Radiohead has already played Roo. I'd hate for us to be like Coachella and have the same band be the main headliner 3 times. Sure we repeat our Sunday jamband headliner, but that Sat. slot is special. We need new blood in there. I won't be pissed if it is Radiohead, but I'm hoping for The Stones or Prince or Bowie or Roger Waters, etc.

This, plus music is too poppy for me.

I may be confusing DMB shows, but in 2010 wasn't he beyond messed up? I mean, I know he generally rambles about nothing, but if memory serves, he wasn't even using words, just grunting and giggling a lot.
