Last CDs I bought were:
Yanni - Live at the Acropolis
Goldfrapp - Supernature
from the bargain bin at SalVal, each for $1. Win.
Oh wait. At the Whartscape festival I bought the "Saddle Up" CD-R by Quiet Hooves for a buck as well. Really cool 8-piece band from Georgia, with dense, complex indie pop compositions that would be right at home on an Elephant 6 release. Check 'em out.
Boom Boom Satellites - To the Loveless: longtime fan of this band and this most recent release has made a believer in me again The Black Crowes - Croweology: lovin' this representation of the Crowes' catalogue and I can't wait to catch a few dates of this tour 36 Crazyfist - Collisions and Castaways: enjoyin' this about as much as their past few releases, need ta give it another few listens though Filter - The Trouble With Angels: surprised by how much I can't stop listenin' to this album, again a longtime fan though
Ashamed to see the last albums I bought were Rodriguez "Cold Fact" and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds "Dig Lazarus Dig", and that was like March.
"Cold Fact" is a ***** classic and "Dig Lazarus Dig" is a great **** effort from one of my favorite acts.
^ As for Filter, I thought Short Bus only had a few good tracks, Title Of Record was surprisingly good, and the one after that was terrible. I've not heard from them since LP3 ( can't remember the title).
I picked up a bunch at the record store yesterday.
On CD: Ella Fitzgerald - Best of Twelve Nights in Hollywood The Budos Band III Isaac Hayes - Live at the Sahara Tahoe
On LP (all in great condition and under $5): Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group - Live CTI Summer Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl Vol. 3
El-P ~ Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 Wavves ~ King of the Beach Eli "Paperboy" Reed ~ Come And Get It! Brian Wilson ~ Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin
^I really have to get around to listening to the new Brian Wilson. Is it good?
A friend of mine got that on Saturday. Got a listen to it. Not my sort of thing, but it doesn't sound bad. My friend told me that it was odd for him to be singing some song from Porgy and Bess from her point of view.
But I couldn't recognize Gershwin if I heard it, unless someone told me it was his works. So I have no idea how far Wilson strayed from the originals.
Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters - Spread The Love JJ Gray and Mofro - Georgia Warhorse Nachtmystium - Black Meddle Part 1 (alright, this was released in 2008)
That makes 20 or so for August. I think I have a problem.
"Filigree & Shadow" by This Mortal Coil "Satyricon" by Meat Beat Manifesto "Everything Is Wrong" by Moby "Ambient 1 : Music For Airports" - by Brian Eno

just got Carole King's Tapestry a few weeks ago. I've heard it so many times but I've never had my own copy and the day I go looking to buy it online it was the daily special on Barnes & Noble's website for $4.99. Total score.
if you look i'm sure you'd see that nothing's really as it seems and soon enough you'd realize you promise more than you'll provide the substance that we're hoping for will always leave us needing more we're calloused til we cannot feel the only moments that were real
MFA by Eno is the ta-tas. Haven't heard the others.
Yes, a classic in the genre, milestone, even.
I must say, GREAT picks today: I used to own the Moby, and to the Moby haters, this is considered a 90s electronic classic for many good reasons.
I had the Eno on MP3 for years, CD was 5 bucks. Couldn't pass that up.
The MBM I'd never heard, but they are incredible. Think dub/industrial/hip-hop/IDM. Sounds pretentious, but oh man... great shit!
This Mortal Coil... very well respected avant pop/gothic rock supergroup from 4AD records in the 80s. My first real taste of them here, but I'm loving it so far.

interpol - interpol which is different from their earlier works, but has been great to listen to at work
the arcade fire - the suburbs enjoyed the first listen, but have not played it again
black mountain - wilderness heart only played once, but was slightly disappointed
filter - the trouble with angels... a complete piece of garbage, even worse than i thought it'd be... doubt they'll ever bring back the title of record days (welcome to the fold!)
jimmy gnecco - the heart an unbelievable record from the lead singer of the band Ours
That's why the song had a friendly radio version that was several minutes shorter, but it cut out that awesome bridge: "Mama gimme my medicine to make me feel like a tall tree."
Picked up the new Tub Ring - Secret Handshakes. Not my favorite record they've ever done, but maybe they're past their prime. Still is an improvement from their last release though. Gonna take a few more spins to really decide how I feel about it.

Mavis Staples "You are Not Alone" (produced by Jeff Tweedy) I love some of it (Wrote a Song for Everyone, You are Not Alone) but find about half of it too gospel
JJ Grey and Mofro "Georgia Warhorse" Slow, Hot, and Sweaty -- enough said.
Rush: Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, and Hemispheres (all three were well overdue, and I already had half the albums on my computer) Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses - Junky Star Chromeo - Business Casual

Really? No one else has picked up Telephantasm? I pre-ordered through the website so it was in my mailbox Tuesday afternoon when I got home from work! NiiCE! ;D
Not much "new" material here....about 5 unreleased Soundgarden songs that have been remixed and officially "finished" with the final touches being done this year...final mixing and added vocals, instrument fills etc done as needed this year. The result is ANYTHING but what you would expect. They are taking a VERY cautious, calculated return to the music world. They aren't taking Big Chances....just doing what they know they do best....improving on what didn't go so well the first time and trying to gain a new, younger fan base. And so far...it seems to be working! Before they do any NEW studio stuff expect another retrospective from them...the LOOOONG awaited B-Sides! THEN they might get down for some new stuff...but it's always different and GREAT! The version of Slaves and Bulldozers on the new CD is TOTALLY reworked and remastered and is 10000k times better than the original!
If you are even a casual Soundgarden fan...you NEED this record!
I really do want Telephantasm, but I'm strapped fer cash right now and I've got like 3-5 other albums I wanna pick up ASAP. It's on the ever growin' list though.
