So, don't hate me for this, but I'm just cracking into MMJ. Preparing for this year. I've started with Evil Urges, and like what I hear right off the bat. What do you guys think their best album is? Or I guess, what should I start/have started with?

lol. don't get this conversation started because then we'll have 5 pages of arguing.
Evil Urges is the album most people say NOT to start with but I really like it as well.
That said, most like "Z" or the slightly older "It Still Moves" when it comes to full albums.
Z has a great set of songs and the whole album works wonderfully when played in a row.
It Still Moves has the classic "One Big Holiday" and other great hits.
Personally I love all three and the earlier 2 albums have been growing on me for a while. There's definitely better production value in the newer ones and the older ones lean more towards country/southern rock but all are great.
Definitely get Okonokos though. Preferably the DVD.

Evil Urges is a bit too "clean" or "mainstream" for some. Others don't like some cheesy lyrics but I really dig it. Lots of good from that (especially live).
Personally I had "Z" first and didn't get into it much until after getting Okonokos (live cd).
Really, what turned me on to MMJ was hearing "One Big Holiday" from a Bonnaroo CD/DVD
after that I got more into okonokos........and that turned me on to Z even more.
Get the DVD of okonokos or watch it in order on youtube (tons of vids from the dvd).
Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong starting with any of the albums.
If you want a sense of what they sound like now - I say start with Okonokos and Evil Urges. Then, Z and It Still Moves, but most of that is covered on Okonokos. .
They don't play much from Tennessee Fire or At Dawn live these days. A few choice cuts, but they haven't dug into them deeply anytime I've seen them since Roo '06. They're still def worth getting into, though.
If you don't have time to sit down and listen through each album, I would get all of them in a playlist and just put it on random. You lose the cohesiveness, but you hear the full range of their sound. It's all good.

So yesterday I was at my sister's and we were flipping channels and MMJ was on Austin City Limits. My two year old niece was bopping around and I asked her if she likes My Morning Jacket. She grabbed the fleece coat she was wearing and said "jacket!" It was very cute.
She proceeded to be completely mesmerized by the band and clapped, said yay! or thank you after ever song.
I just saw this. It was a proud day as a mother! ;D
First song "Wordless Chorus" had me hooked on this band. I had only heard "Off the Record" on Sirius radio and liked it but hearing the live version on this cd was amazing.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm praying MMJ gets a mainstage set. They deserve it. Arcade Fire into MMJ on What might just be the best possible Friday lineup ever.

Anyone looking to familiarize themselves with MMJ can go to Internet Archive and listen to their live shows. They're taper friendly. www.archive.org/details/MyMorningJacket

Can't agree more with above sentiments concerning Okonokos. Just started listening to MMJ in the last year and got to catch them in Louisville last winter. Unbelievable show!! Wish I had heard Okonokos before I went...
MMJ brings an unbelievable energy like no other band I've seen live. They totally play off the crowd's excitement and the crowd plays off of their crazy energy.
What results is a collective exponential blowing of minds.

Let's assume Arcade Fire plays first on the What, then My Morning Jacket gets the late night spot on the What. Who do you wait to see in the pit?
Such a tough decision. Personally, I'm a bigger MMJ fan but i've been getting into Arcade Fire the past month or two and digging it. Maybe go in for one, get swept out and then wait as long as it takes to get back in?

They're pretty much confirmed to play What. insider gave us MMJ + AF on What on friday.
Would love an MMJ late-night but don't think that's happening. My bet is on MMJ into AF. Just like Beasties into Phish in 2009.
