March 2005, my fiance proposed to me and we started thinking about our wedding. Around that time, I asked the Inforoosters for suggestions on wedding songs. I got some awesome ideas!
Fast forward March 2010 and I am actually planning the wedding! I have a hall booked, for real! So I'm going to ask the roo community again for wedding song ideas. I think I know what we're going to do, but I want to hear other ideas. A lot of music has come out in the last 5 years and I haven't heard all of it.
I think I'm going to walk down the aisle to Ben Harper's "Forever" and we'll leave the area as man and wife to Queen's "You're my Best Friend" on September 23rd, the first day of fall.
But let's hear it, Roo community, wedding songs... Go!
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
We had a lot of other stuff going on... remodeling a house, nursing school, planning a wedding sounded more like a chore than anything else. There was also the question of money.

We had a very casual outdoor, evening wedding and didn't have a band or DJ. We had a harp player at the ceremony and cocktails, and then plugged in my ipod to the speakers for the rest It worked really well.

If I am ever lucky enough marry someone, there is only one song that I would ask for
[glow=gold,1,000]Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing i'd never done before Watchin' a crowd roll in. out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones i never felt before... Mmm... people always told me. that bars are dark and lonely And talk is often cheap and filled with air. Sure sometimes they thrill me But nothin' could ever chill me. Like the way they make the time just disappear Feelin' you are here again. hot on my skin again. Feelin good a thing i'd never known before What does it mean to feel? Millions of dreams come real A feelin' in my soul i'd never felt before... mmm... And you always told me. No matter how long it holds me if it falls apart Or makes us millonaires. you'll be right here forever. We'll go thru this thing together And on heaven's golden shore we'll lay our heads [/glow]

^Congrats!
Lots of good suggestions here. I have to second the call for "At Last." That is easily one of the best "first dance" songs. However, my girlfriend and I have always been partial to (and one day figure on dancing to) "Crazy Love." I'm just scared that when the moment finally comes I won't be able to hold my composure. Of course, we'll probably follow it up with "Whole Lotta Love," which will instantly refuel my testosterone levels.
I'm getting married this summer, and a couple of our must have songs are Love and Some Verses - Iron & Wine for our dance and The Wedding Song - Peter, Paul, and Mary somewhere in our ceremony. My dad and I are going to dance to Landslide- Tori Amos.
offbeatbride.com/ has great advice on this and pretty much everything else, too.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

mmj has the most beautiful and sweet songs i've ever heard. great choice!
I would recommend this if you can fit it in the budget:
If not... "If It's the Beaches" by the Avett Brothers... really almost any Avett song.
OMG, I wish. I'm in contact with a local Beatles tribute band called Pepperland. If we can get them, that's our reception music. But they are musicians, and therefore slow to commit :-P
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.

So, it's not quite what AgainstNunes! suggested, but the Avett Bros are playing in St. Louis the day after our wedding. Serendipity, thou art sweet! They will be the first band we see together as husband and wife. Now, if Wilco were to schedule a show that same weekend, we could call that a honeymoon.
