Solid game. We can’t put anyone away lately though we are winning late. I think we’re #1 by far in < 5 minutes < 5 points scoring in the last 8. We had 55 points (lots to do with multiple OT’s), someone had 30 maybe the Wizards but the league average was 20. We don’t have the consistency to put teams away but we have come back late (eg Bulls game) even as we have let everyone back in games late. Idk. Hopefullly Cousins only twisted his ankle or something and won’t be out long. He’s hosting his comedy slam tomorrow night so he’s gotta be there. Haha. Good game.
Looks like an Achilles injury with MRI tomorrow. Those are rarely good news, and we kind of need his ass in order to compete in the back side of the season. :/ I think we are a 37 or so win team without him, so if he’s gone for any considerable time, it’s going to be tough to get back to the playoffs.
Heard from ESPN by way of a friend that he's out for the year with a torn Achille's.
Shitty.
Yeah. That’s a wrap for us. According to local writer Jeff Duncan, we were prepared to offer him 5 years 175MM to stay and were actively working on some mid season trades to make a push in the latter part of the season. Oh well, and Hambone if you see this, i haven’t forgotten the preseason bet and will certainly be paying that off should we likely not make it to the playoffs now.

I was more referring to 2017-18. Otherwise, I’m not sure. He loves it down here - kind of started last year when he and Anthony Davis rode in the Zulu parade. People have embraced him, and he lives down the street from one of my cousins in a pretty nice neighborhood a couple blocks away from AD. I think with AD and Jrue, he was probably 70/30 staying particularly if we were going to throw $35MM a year at him. I’m not schooled enough on the NBA cap to know if that’s the highest he would have been able to get. I’m also not saying he would leave for more money or if that was his motivation.
He seemed particularly happy about the prospect of making a push into the post season, because I don’t think he’s ever been. We were improving and making a push for the 5/6 where the last few years we have been more of a 9/10 team.
What I don’t know is how severe the tear is and if it’s a compound to precious Achilles’ tendon problems he had suffered with in the past. So how does that complicate contract negotiations and if we are going to limit the amount we’d pay for the risk, I think there are other teams who would roll the dice at max. I guess it’s going to have to play out over the next 4-5 months now.

They're gonna be able to pay him more than anyone. I think, with the CBA now, even a sign-and-trade with another team can't get him his full max the way staying can. He doesn't seem like a guy that is desperate to go anywhere, and he's not someone who has a hometown team he might want to join, like Westbrook/PG13 and LA or LeBron and Cleveland. If anything, being from Alabama, New Orleans might be the closest thing to home for him culturally, and it's one of the closest geographically. I think he's pretty likely to stay, but it sounded like you might have been sweating it a little.
Word. And yeah, he’s from Mobile which is about 2 hours from here. I was more bemoaning the end of this season but we are definitely in a flux longer term. This is Dell’s last year of his contract. Gentry has underachieved. So what do Benson and Loomis do now? I think the general consensus in the city was they should stick it we ended up building on where we appeared to be going. Maybe if we floundered you get rid of them - essentially letting this year be determined on the court. So depending on how things go, it’s tough to guess whether they will be judged on potential and where we were maybe heading or would the decision to reward or penalize be based on the actual results despite losing one of the 2 best players we have.
Turns out you were right, and we had the highest offer to put on the table. NO Advocate offered the possibility of trading him now for a big man who could potentially help salvage the season. But if we did that, we would lose the ability to offer the most money. They also suggested it could backfire and certainly the ceiling is lower without him.
I’m not giving up on this year. If we play strong enough down the line to get into the playoffs, it would be another one and done. I prefer getting there over being a lottery team again.

They still have a pretty good shot. Six games over .500, and the nine-seed (LAC) is .500, still have Davis, maybe they'll make a little trade not involving Boog. 34-ish games to go. They can protect that cushion, probably. It's gotta be demoralizing to lose him for the other players, though.

S! E! C! S! E! C!
Kentucky with its best showing of the year. I was starting to worry they'd miss the tourney. Still somewhat of a possibility, but finally a signature win. On the road in a harsh environment, no less.
Last night Siena played St. Peter’s. It was the battle for last place in the MAAC. Siena won 59-57 in triple OT. They also shot 23% from the field.
Seriously. What the hell. How. HOW!
i wonder how low that is for total score in a triple OT
*it was hard to find data on all 3+ OT games, but it looked like it might be the lowest from what i saw.
KenPom has it as the lowest since 2002. I’m just going to assume it’s the lowest ever because it’s a 20 point difference to the next lowest scoring game.
They didn’t even make the over. It was the most painful game of basketball I’ve ever witnessed. The score at the end of regulation was 40-40. One point scored per minute.

Clemson scored 36 in the whole game against Uva last week. They doubled that in the next game.

UVA's defense is a beast. They held Duke to 22 points in the first half.
Clemson has a really good shot to take down UNC tonight.
Man, I hope so. We haven't been this good in a while but we lost one of our best players.
UNC has a guy injured and Felton is suspended. Honestly, if the rumors about Felton's suspension are true, he's done for.
yikes, he hired the attorney who worked on the Duke case, and defended another UNC athlete for rape charges. probably nothing good coming from that. raymond felton is probably going to eat his emotions as nephew goes down.
