Being a VIP virgin, I'm especially excited about the special welcome party on Thursday with a secret band. So, I'm curious if anyone has guesses as to who it might be this year?
I know it'll be someone in the lower half of the lineup, and probably someone playing Friday. Is that accurate?
Also, can any vets shed some light on what to expect from the party? Are food/drinks served? What time does it occur, and for how long? How big is the stage/concert area? Other thoughts?

i really dont know who last year was. they do a poor job advertising it.
there is free beer - but you have to know to go to the heady beer tent so you dont get a free bud or something. food is served. it takes place right in the middle of the vip section where the big tent is (assuming the layout is the same this year - 2008 was a different layout than 07)

last year i fucked up - i didnt know about the good beer being free, so i think i had a bud light or something... someone in my group was telling me about all the sweetwaters they had and i had a major wtf moment. so i dont plan on letting this happen again

I dont understand why the VIP party has consistently gone downhill. In 05 it was on that really cool stage that they built just for it and had the Benevento Russo duo. I got to talk to Mike Gordon at the show it was killer. Since then it has gotten smaller and smaller while the VIP section has gotten larger and larger.

I've only been to last year's, but I didn't think it was that great. The food in Centeroo is better, and at least this year, to me, it would be hard to top the music in Centeroo as well. So basically, it comes down to the free beer, which is nice, but not worth missing Alberta Cross>Delta Spirit. It would be better if they started it earlier, like at 4PM.
the VIP part in 05 was a blast. Seeing the Duo in the little tent and being amongst what felt like 50 people watching the band was awesome! i'm getting worried the more i hear about VIP getting larger, but the amenities seem to be getting less and less, or just not as special? still, i'm very excited for the party!

You mean in other than my 1 1/2 year old? The little boy is incubating well. We just got to see him today in an ultrasound, in all his testicular glory. He's due August 22nd. Thanks for asking!
Probably Benevento Russo Duo. But thats subjective. But that year they did have it on a big stage they set up just for the party. Mike Gordon was there and was super cool as well. Took pictures with us before he left.
