While I think it's entirely overpriced I opted in for the food. My reasoning....
1) We are driving 1200 miles to see the show and it's much more convenient. 2) Last festival I went to we had to wait in line at least 15-30 minutes no matter which vendor we wanted to eat at. (LONG LINES) 3) While not cheap the food plan also includes beverages. 4) Just too lazy to plan. 5) thought that this year there would be much better quality than last and a much smaller crowd.
So basically I'm lazy and don't want to waste time looking for the food I want, or waiting in line. Takes the guess work out of it...

loki4u - Where did you see that the food plan includes beverages? I can not find anything that says that... If so - I am super excited, because I did not expect that!
abit too pricy, not to mention i have heard people complain about planning their days around when they offer the meals. i need to be alittle more loose in my plans
Wow if our survey number relate to whats really going on it looks like there wont be anyone eating in the tent. Might be the last year for catered food....

That is what I was trying to get a reading on. How many people go VIP? 5% (of 80K) would be 4000 people?. I'm guessing more like 2,500 to 3,500 people go VIP. So if 1/4 buy the food package i think that would be a lot.

I will not be doing the VIP food, 3 of my group have already made plans to when we will be driving out of the festival for food and such...Especially breakfast! One person in our group IS doing VIP meal plan, they stated their reason as being .... "It's one weekend where I can eat like a King." I hope for his sake $200.00 makes him feel like a king twice a day!

Just wanted to make sure you and your peeps have seen this:
Until Friday evening at 9:00 PM, vehicles will not be permitted to leave the festival and then re-enter the event grounds. This means that if your vehicle leaves, it will not be allowed to re-enter. After Friday evening, if you wish to leave the grounds in your vehicle and then return, you will have to leave through special security gates. At this gate we will register your vehicle when you leave and you will get a pass to re-enter. You will only be allowed to leave and then reenter with your vehicle once over the weekend. Upon returning you will only be able to re-enter with your vehicle through the gate you left, and will be subject to a thorough vehicle search.
I'm not sure if it applies to VIP cars, too, but I thought it should be posted for people planning. Nevermind, it doesn't apply to us.
Leaving and re-entering is different in VIP. One of the lesser known perks of going VIP is that VIP'ers are able to leave and re-enter as needed through a seperate entrance. This is really nice as you can go get breakfast or supplies such as beer and ice from outside stores for less money than they are sold on site.
^^^ Yay! I was really disappointed when I read the "only leave/come back once" rule. They should have it posted on the VIP section of the site that our entrance doesn't have the same restrictions as the others when it comes to reentry.
I believe that even most VIP veterans do not realize the re-entry perk exists. This is one of the reasons that all VIP camp sites have direct access to a road.
One VIP only trick we have used in the past is to unload all of our gear at our camp site and then park our car by the wall surrounding VIP. This gives us even more usable space within our camp site.

I don't believe we are explicitly allowed to do this but nobody has yet told us we could not. There are people who drive into and out of VIP every day while staying at local hotels and they park along the wall.
I definitely took a pass on the food. Even though the caterer has some nice credentials, the price is just plain too high... /do you know how many packages of ramen noodles you can buy with that?
