Its a crazy amount of money for food... but I guess its about convenience. My bigger question is who in the heck is going to pay over three grand for a onsite RV + VIP tickets??? (sorry slightly off topic) I cannot imagine! I love roo (4th year), but for 5,000 I could get a ten day all-inclusive 5 star in cancun during springbreak. That is crazy!
Maybe they are doing this so they can faze out meals? What hurts is other big festivals still offer food with their VIP packages. It's hard to raise prices in a bad economy and cut the services you are providing. I hope it doesn't backfire on them.
I replied to the email I posted on page 1 with this:
Just to be clear ... $194 for six meals for one person? That comes out to $32 per meal!
$32 per meal for the menu outlined on your website? That doesn't seem possible. I could eat in Centeroo for an entire day on $32!
Hell, I could pack a stove and feed both me and my wife for the entire WEEKEND on $32.
That's ridiculous.
And got this as a reply:
Your assumption is correct, and although this may seem pricey, it is a buffet and the food is very high end, so your taste buds won't be disappointed.
... to which I replied:
My tastebuds won't be disappointed because there's no way that I can justify paying more than $60 for my wife and me to eat lunch at a festival that's already has a base cost of $1500.
I'll be honest -- We don't even spend $60 when we go out to eat for our anniversary or either of our birthdays.
You've raised the price on VIP attendance and at the same time reduced the relative value offered. If the best you can do is $32/plate, I have no choice but to cook for myself or fend for myself in Centeroo, neither of which have been necessary in my two previous trips as a VIP camper.
That was part of the appeal for VIP. In fact, the free meals made it quite easy for us to justify the added expense of VIP. Now we're reconsidering a return trip to Bonnaroo at all.
I wish you the best of luck on your new VIP food program, but I suspect that it will be a spectacular failure.

Hmmm since when is this meal considered "HIGH END"?
"Southern-style fried chicken, catfish and hushpuppies"
I would've sprung for it, but I prefer the flexibility of eating when I want to instead of a window of time set by someone else. I also found there was more than enough food available either at camp or in Centeroo.
I think we are going to bring our own "high end" food, kinda like veggie dogs w/Grey Poupon. I would like a report afterwards as to whether it was worth it or not.

We will certainly let you know. We sure hope we are not dining for two every meal! I love my man, but it is roo!
We skipped the food plan also. Mainly due to the schedule conflict issue. When the food was included in the price and we skipped a meal (and the long wait in line) to be at a stage we didnt feel like we had wasted money. At the price of 60$ a meal we struggled with the idea of missing a meal to catch a show. This was a enough to make it a no debate issue for us. Roo is music first. I'll be cooking us breakfast at camp and we will eat in center roo on our way between stages. mmmm Spicy pizza.
We bit the bullet and gave it a shot. I hope we dont regret it ...
Well Hoka it looks like we are the only folks going for it. Might be a big lonely tent LOL So feel free to say hello when you see us dining. I'm pretty sure there will be room at the table
^^ We would love to join ya - we will certainly have plenty of room to spread out and the lines can't be bad! Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if they canceled - unless our cross section is very skewed. Either way Roo cant wait for ROOOOOO!

hoka and her hubby(?) are some of the coolest cats that i know. We camped next to em in 07 and had a blast. I miss you indiana folk! I will be bringing enough, walnuts, mangoes, pineapple, honeydew, veggie burgers, and corn to last me the weekend. I hope that VIP is not expanded once again.
