so im considering a ps3 60 gig (which has hardware ps2 support) that includes the hdmi cable, dvd remote, guitar hero 3 (and guitar), some random nba game, and uhm... national treasure on blue ray.
price: $500
now, a new ps3 is about 400. but it doesn't have hardware ps2 support and it has less usb inputs. but the new one has a "better" chipset that lets it run cooler and take less energy. oh, and obviously it wouldn't come with any games.
what do you think?

If you're throwing around "quote marks" when you say the new one's "better" it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself.
Anyway, I added up an estimated used value of the extras with the lowest used prices on Amazon. HDMI cable: $45 (or is this supposed to be included with the system? I don't have one) DVD remote: $15 National Treasure: $37 Guitar Hero: $62 NBA07? (used that, assuming the oldest version's cost is only a minimum): $37 That's $151/196 of extras there. Which means the PS3 share of the price would run about $50-100 less than a new one at retail. Plus, with the PS2 support and USBs, which you seem to speak of positively.

An HDMI cable can be had for under 10$, but still a good deal. I actually don't think the 40gig even has software emulation. The new one also has improved wireless if you're going to be further away from your router.
