I figured since I bought tickets to this event (hopefully my friend is able to go, if not I will have two up for sale), that I should start up a thread on this event. The following is cut and pasted from a forum on www.bearcreekmusicfestival.com/ and it looks like a quality lineup. It has the feel of Ashefest too me and that was a fun time. Whoever is going or is interested lets discuss it here.
Advance weekend tickets are available for $95, plus tax and handling fees. Weekend passes will be available for $110 plus tax and handling fees at the gate. Single day tickets are only available at the gate. Primitive camping is included in the weekend ticket. Water and electric sites will be available for an additional fee.

"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I tell you what this festival is going to be the next best thing to the Echo Project if you are not able to go to that show. It seems like it is cheap and it is just going to be a funk filled fest with a lot of the same bands that played at Ashefest.

They have announced on the site that there is going to be a venue change. They didn't say what, but its probably going to be Live Oak where Wanee is. Overheard there were some people at the Medeski, Martin, and Wood concert talking about it, and said the venue is going to be changed to Live Oak.

Yeah I heard about that, some christian folk do not want us "crazy folk" to be around them along with all of the debauchery that comes with typical festivals. So how is this Live Oak place if it is getting moved? From the few things I read it looks like it is still a nice place. In all actuallity it is a quicker and easier drive for me instead of bear creek so all is good with me still going.

Update: Everyone orcheastra has been added and judging from the post on bearcreek boards suppose to be monstrous. The organizer put this on the board: "EO is going to be ridiculous. We are taking a blend of musicians from the festival and also bringing in a couple of the southeast's most talented and beloved artists from the bluegrass and jam communities. It will be a blend of NOLA funk, southeastern jam and bluegrass with a hint of jazz and gospel. Did someone say George Porter Jr. ? Sorry to tease."
Take that for what you think but this festie is looking better and better as long as the new venue will be as nice as the previous one (no matter how you think it, it is north FL in November, it will be nice).

Wish I could make it, but money is tight and I might just only make it to Wanee in April. Hopefully Bear Creek comes back to Live Oak the next year, I might have to go then.

Official word on the new venue from the bear creek forum:
"It's official folks. We're heading down the road to Live Oak. We are very appreciative of the folks from the Music Park, Randy and Beth Judy and the Magfest team and Clint Tipton from The Paralounge Drum Gathering for helping to make this change possible. The Suwanee Music Park is an incredible and familiar place to enjoy great music and community. We are excited and honored to have a chance to make this classic venue our own for one weekend. Thank you all very much for your continued support of Bear Creek."
This saves me some time driving now...woohoo. Also for anyone that has attended music/festivals at this venue, is there anything that you can say about this venue. Security, camping, shakedowns, etc?

As for your questions. Security when I went to Wanee was fairly lax, they just drive around on golf carts and nothing more. Camping is real nice, alot of room for everyone and there isn't much of a Shakedown but they do have two areas for merchandise and such.

Any confirmations for people coming to Bear Creek? If there are enough people going I can setup a list of people who will be there and post it in the my first post. I am also going to post some information from the bear creek boards (and organizer for that matter) for you guys debating on going.
Link for schedule "We are honored to announce the 2007 Bear Creek Music and Art Festival schedule. We took great care to assemble the most inspiring and talented live playing line-up possible. Changing venues certainly changed the dynamic of the scheduling, however, I think we found some great compromises that will translate into exciting musical moments and experiences." www.bearcreekmusicfestival.com/fridaylineup.html
Stage information: "In an effort to add a few different wrinkles to our Suwannee experience, we are going to move the Sweetwater Stage( Field Stage) up onto the hill where the vendors are set-up for Magfest. The Stage will face the lake with the field behind it, open for frisbee, kite flying and other outdoor recreation. This way, we will shrink the walk between the two out-door stages. Since our stage set times don't overlap outside, it will make for a quick walk to see the next band. Folks won't have to miss a note. The Music Hall is also now much closer to the Sweetwater Stage with this set-up. Vendors will still be located around the perimeter of this open field. We think this set-up will make for a very intimate musical experience."

I just got my acceptance email for the Work Exchange Team, so I'll be there. Orientation is at 7pm next Thursday, but I volunteered for pre- or post festival and don't know which I'll get yet. I have to send a credit card deposit of $120.00 tomorrow.
