The Virgin Fest can suck it, High Zero is the best music festival in Baltimore, and the best experimental improvisation festival in the US. Virtuosos, geniuses and fools come from all over the globe to participate in this orgy of new ideas and collaboration. The main event, a series of evening performances happening NEXT weekend, is not to be missed. For $12 at the door, you get over a dozen musicians of wildly varying disciplines making new music for four sets, in as many hours.
Then there's HighJinx, the loosely controlled series of incredibly odd yet entertaining performances that happen sporadically and with little warning throughout the city, throughout the festival dates.
I and a few friends are going to the Friday evening show. Long shot, but... is anyone else catching any of this mayhem?!
