Tickets are now $118 for 4 day weekend pass.
I went last year and an awesome time. Great atmosphere.
So Far the Lineup Includes: Donna The Buffalo North Mississippi Allstars Toubab Krewe The Cat Empire The Hackensaw Boys DeVotchKa The Duhks Scythian Blue Highway Carolina Chocolate Drops Erik Mongrain The Waybacks Langhorne Slim American Dumpster Lil Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers Forro in the Dark Infamous Stringdusters Feufollet The Old Ceremony 3 Fox Drive Chuch Appalachian Roots The Red Stick Ramblers Morwenna Lasko & Jay Pun Strut Jan Smith Rose's Pawn Shop Scott Perry Devon Sproule Paul Curreri Blue Mule William Walter & Co Sol Creech Band Smooth Kentucky Wild Turkeys Kat Mills The Seed Carbon Culture
To me, the tickets seem a little high based on that lineup. I mean there are a bunch of bands I'd like to see, but $118 and really no big names? Little pricey
I was there a few years ago (the year Ani DiFranco was there). I was press back then, and I got VIP passes....wow, was that ever the way to go! I don't remember if I was in a separate VIP camping area--I think not. My campsite was gorgeous and wooded. The people were friendly. The mix of acts was really interesting--part jam band, part world music (lots of African-influenced stuff), part Appalachian/old-time/bluegrass. There was a firepit area that was just awesome.
It's really in the middle of nowhere--although I had the best peanut butter pie I've ever had in a coffee house in Floyd (can't remember the name), and I'm going to try to go by way of there on the way to 'Roo.
Friends who performed there said that they found the police presence a bit restrictive. I was not in much of a position to do anything that would have drawn official inquiry (other than getting into Ani DiFranco's dressing room--I was the only journalist who got to interview her at the event), so I can't say if that was true.

if any one is going and needs a place to crash for anight let me know... i have a wonderful house. i will be attending... f'n devotchka... oh and the $118 is last tier. i grabbed mine for like $80.
My mom's in the "suburb" of New Castle. I used to be a real snob about that region (I didn't grow up there--she did, then moved to D.C. and raised me, then moved back), but I've mellowed a whole lot. As long as I can get Wi-Fi, good Indian food, and trips to Mini-Graceland, I'm cool with it.
I'm coming down for FloydFest--covering it for a magazine, assuming they get the press-pass thing all settled. I'm not sure which bands to look for. Railroad Earth, sure--and I've heard good things about Carolina Chocolate Drops. Definitely intrigued by DeVotchKa, from what I've downloaded.
I think the Wiyos are playing? They're fun.
The part of FloydFest that I saw least of last time, and want to experience more of this time, is the area with the fire pit and all the really exotic acts.
And I'm pretty eager to get the peanut butter pie at that cafe in Floyd again!
id really like to go too but again...i missed out on the tickets...i could get an all good ticket for nearly that much. hopefully next year ill get mine on the first tier!
I'm definitely going. I'm even going back to being a music journalist (a field I fled last fall) to cover the festival. I hope to meet up with some Inforoosters there.
ok actually....i found the solution to my problem of not having $118....im volunteering! you only have to do one four hour shift a day and seeing as how ill be going alone...this will be a great way to meet people. im excited. now that bonnaroo is over i have something to look forward to. i think it will be a great vibe and im pumped about all the different types of musical acts that are going to be there.
I'm really looking forward to this one. I'll be there only on Thursday and Friday, so I'll be missing a lot of the big names (Railroad Earth, etc.), but that's OK with me.
VIP here is pretty cool; free food and drinks, and you get to sit ON the stage (at least if you get there in time). I don't know what it costs, though.
The thing I remember the most about this festival the last time I went was that there was NO cell-phone reception. You're really cut off.
The area is very pretty.
Rumors before were that the police presence is VERY strong. Not an issue for me, but it might be for some folks.
