Maybe I'm just in a bitchy mood but here's another thing that happened today that pissed me off.
Today Adm. Fallon became the latest military casualty of Bush’s ideological purge. He thought Iraq had caused the US to neglect Afghanistan and hampered Mid East Peace Talks.
Since Bush’s decision to invade Iraq more than ten U.S. Generals and Admirals have been dismissed for disagreeing with Bush policy. These includes:
General Shinseki was fired for stating under oath that he thought the Iraq invasion would take years and hundreds of billions of dollars. As it turns out he underestimated the costs.
Gen, Zinni was encouraged to “resign” early due to lack of support for the Iraq invasion.
Gen Shelton retired early after clashing with Rumsfeld about the small size of American forces being sent to Iraq.
Gen Abizaid was fired when he spoke out against the surge. He thought we should be working toward handing over control to the Iraqis. Ironically, Fallon was his replacement.
Gen. Casey was also fired when he said the surge could delay "the development of Iraqi security forces.”
Gen. Looney was castigated and fired for protesting against Bush and his corrupt regime.
Gen. Pace was fired when he stated about the proposed use of 1st strike nuclear weapons against Iran, pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons is both illegal and immoral. Despite the illegality and immorality of first-use of nuclear weapons, the Bush Pentagon rewrote US war doctrine to permit the use of pre-emptive nuclear strikes.[/u]
Gen. Garner fired as The 1st Iraqi Occupation Administrator when he pushed for quick elections and use of Iraqi labor instead of privatized foreign labor for reconstruction. The Administration disagreed with his statement “"My preference was to put the Iraqis in charge as soon as we can,”
Gen. Byrnes was fired when he came out against planning to attack Iran after American Conservative magazine exposed Cheney’s plans “to immediately invade Iran after the next terror attack in the US, even if there was no evidence Iran was involved.”
At least five more generals and admirals have reportedly said they will resign if Bush orders attacks on Iran. (UK Times Online, 2/07)
