one of my very best friends is having a baby in a couple months and she wants to do the all natural, organic, no chemicals or plastics or throw away earth mother type deal... she's not registered anywhere online (she lives far away now ) and i have NO idea what to get for the baby that would fit into that...
i tried googling and basically have only found what looks like super pricey foofy hollywood organic stuff (like $50 for a towel or receiving blanket, etc... lol)
anyone know any good earth mother hippie baby type sites/items i can look at that's not an absolute rip?

thanks much to both of you! she does want to do cloth diapers, but i have no idea what sizes she'll need... i guess just some of each size would work cause babies grow, don't they ;D
If you're going to get her diapers, I'd get her a small starter assortment. All of these websites have recommendations on how many to buy of each kind. But remember that they can be expensive too! My little starter assortment cost me around $150--a combination of prefolds, all-in-ones (AIOs), and fitteds. You'll also have to remember that babies can surprise you by being a lot bigger or a lot smaller than you planned for; perhaps a gift certificate is the best bet.
If you're set on helping in the diaper department, I'd highly recommend pooling together resources to get a diaper service for the first few months, if that's something she's really interested in. We have one, and it's $70/month--no washing, no worries! All we have to do is buy our own covers for the diapers they provide, and they take care of the yucky stuff. It's really wonderful for us apartment-dwellers with no washer/dryer combo available, and when you're so ridiculously tired that you can't imagine doing laundry ever again, it's nice to know someone else is taking care of the 60-odd diapers that newborns go through.
Another sustainable idea is to buy used baby stuff, if your friend is cool with that. Used toys and clothing are everywhere--yard sale your way through a few nice neighborhoods, and you can end up with some excellent quality stuff on the cheap!
www.cottonbabies.com has the Bumgenius diaper. One diaper will fit a child from birth til they're toilet trained. And it's adorable! They have other brands of cloth diapers too.
