I've somehow managed to survive this long without catching dengue fever (despite never taking precautions and being outside during the worst period), all this talk of mosquito bites has me paranoid.

I work in a building that has a lot of biomed research labs. They recently hosted a dengue fever conference, so all these posters about the latest research were hanging up in the main hallway. I know nothing about it but those posters made it seem scary.
And I talked to my supervisor yesterday about the time off I submitted that we no longer have staffing for. By politely explaining the situation (I bought plane tickets because we had staffing. It's not my fault they moved someone without placing them on a transfer hold, which they're supposed to do per the SOP) I'm now stuck with lots of money invested in those two weekends. He is allowing me to have both weekends off anyways. So I'm not getting written up for Riot & ACL! Woo!
Posted this less than 24 hours ago in the Yay! Thread. Now it's changed again and they're telling me I may not have it off now. Even though my Lt. specifically told me that they wouldn't do this to me. He's emailing the chief supposedly to get a final say on what the policy will be in regards to people putting in for days when we have staffing and then what happens to those days if staffing changes after the fact. If they come back and say "you can't have them," then fuck them I'm just telling them up front that I'm not gonna be here. They can write me up for Riot in September, then ACL in October will be a progressive and I'll get suspended for a few days. But I can't wait till the last minute to buy plane tickets so what do they want me to do? I'm going. I have plane tickets and hotels and concert tickets purchased. Nearly $1,000 between the two trips invested. I'm going. They can go fuck themselves. I work my ass off for this place so fuck them!!!!

I went to pick this girl up from her house the other day and when she got in the truck Jimmy by tool was playing and she said "it sounds horrible. I bet I could play that.".... She doesn't play any instrument. I figured maybe she just didn't like that song so I played Forty Six and Two. Again she said it sounded horrible. Needless to say I took her straight back home.
I went to carmax yesterday with my buddy to find him a car. I ended up test driving a 2013 camaro ss and a 2012 supercharged mustang shelby cobra. I can't afford either of them but carmax doesn't need to know that. I hate ford but that mustang.... I liked the camaro but I loved that mustang. I never thought I'd say that. And I broke the magnet in my ecig mod while I was there.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
The negative impact of corn dogs (and fried food in general) on your health is actually halved late at night because that's when you are supposed to be eating such things.

That's a bunch of bullshit. I hope you're able to work out some sort of solution with them.

And if you consume alcohol at the same time, the negative impact is halved again because the saturated fat is too drunk to find its way to your arteries.

Mind. Blown. Guess I should stop my "one bottle of wine a week unless it is a festival!" rule. Thank god. Because I drank my bottle of wine on Monday this week. Weekend here I come ;-)

Are things improving crazykittensmile? I'm curious what the doc said about the fatigue/aches.
He thinks it's just part of the allergic reaction to whatever bites they are or possibly unrelated, he didn't seem concerned lol. The redness is going down on some of them, so that's encouraging! Hopefully they'll be gone before long!

It's really strange to have such a strong reaction to mosquitoes, so maybe you got bit up by something else. But, at any rate, I hope you are fully free of agitation soon! I'm going to avoid mosquito interaction as best as I can for the rest of this summer, that's for sure.

Me too!! Will be stocking up on bug spray for any outdoor evening events from here on out. Blech.

I'm thinking about getting a pet bat. Train it to protect me. I just don't think it will work. Anything but deetz!
You should all get bat houses. The guano is supposed to be excellent fertilizer.
Actually, we were just talking about this last night, getting a bat house. But, then we may end up with too many bats like we had last year. Haven't seen a bat this summer. Our area was overrun with them last summer

A bat is a great idea! Get me one too, k?
I mean I know bug spray CAN'T smell good (or it would probably defeat the purpose), but I wish it did.
MN, the land of 10,000 lakes - and all of them nurseries for skeeters. I have found the Cutter sport waterproof aerosol can to be effective and decent smelling. Not sure what nasty chemicals are in it, but would rather have that than West Nile.
Many years ago, I suddenly developed hives. Went on for 13 years before we figured out that I was allergic to Red Dye #40. Over that time, I had weekly allergy shots & took an assload of medicine. Now, mosquitos never bite me. Brad & the kids will get eaten up and I won't have one bite. I blame all the meds during those years. So I have that going for me.
We have a bat that lives in a wind-chime made out of a pretty bowl. His name is Vladimir. I love him.
Ps While I do not condone handling wild animals that might have rabies, I did a bat survey a few years ago and pet a lot of them. Bats are soft like kittens. So flying kittens that eat mosquitos win.

I have a bat house but we have failed to find a high enough flat surface to place it There are bats around our house and there is a creek close by, so we have a good start. We may just have to put up a huge pole for it.
