Thanks! Right now all flights to Boston from here are $300 + each way. I am talking to some relatives about maybe picking him up a day early, or flying out of Dallas and whatnot. I mean, the tuition was $3000 and then they schedule the kids to fly in on the most expensive travel days of the week. It is fucking annoying. At this point I am even looking into him taking the train up there. I mean he is out of school for the summer.
Hey, I'm trying to find the original post, but what exactly are the dates? I'm trying to see if I can find something cheap. I travel a lot due to work.

Nothing cheaper than $249 going there and $399 returning. I have looked.

I went looking. Ouch, that's crazy high prices. Traveling in the summer is such a PITA.
The best I seen was arriving on Friday night (17th) and leaving Monday afternoon (26th) - and even that was over 400 r/t.

Is it possible to do a Saturday to Saturday instead of Sun to Sun?
That is the thing. I am in talks with cousins and aunts up there to see if I can get him up a day or two earlier. Then he can really experience Boston and not just the Engineering/Robotics program in Boston. If that can happen, then he can get up there earlier for sure, but that is IF they can get him earlier and drop him off later.
This has honestly been one of the biggest headaches I have ever experienced. I am sure the program is going to be an amazing experience for him, but the organizers are the worst. They originally scheduled him at Berkley instead of Franklin W. Olin college, then they had his personal webpage wrong and that took forever to change. They never switched the credit cards on the account and took a payment out of my dad's card. Never called liked they were supposed to, once it was refunded and then screwed up the final payment. Then add the arrival and departure schedule, this is just a mess.
Like I said, worst case scenario is he will be taking a train up there. My brother has ensured me that between my sister, him and my dad he will get up there (they all make stupid bank, I obviously am the black sheep) but it just might not be by plane.
Went shopping today for the last of the stuff I need for roo, small list.... somehow spent $200 on everything. My eyes almost bugged right out of my head when I saw that total.
Don't read if you're an animal lover like myself, sorry I can't spoiler alert cuz I'm on mobile. ******* I work outdoors for a majority of my job. We came across a 6 wk old kitten today wondering around. I went up to it and was curious when it let me within about 5 ft of it since it was clearly feral. It hopped away without use of its rear left leg. A chunk of meat literally came undone from the thigh area. It already had gang green from that leg to its back. We tried to get it and put it out of its misery, but it escaped. I feel so fucking horrible. It's eyes were dilated not from fear but from being in so much horrific pain. I live and work in the same place and the area where we spotted it is an quarter mile area of protected wet lands so it won't last the wkend. I just feel so horrible =(

We found a full grown feral like that once near the house I was living in at the time. It had gotten into a fight with something and the wound around its tail was in very bad shape. Abra and her mom were able to get it in a carrier (mostly because it was too weak to run). They took it to a vet but they said there was nothing to be done, so they had to put it down.
I watched a kitten get run over by a car. I watched its flailing death throes. It was sad and gross. I drove by again a few hours later and it was pancaked into the pavement. Still sad. Still gross.
We moved into a new house...yaaaaay! Unfortunately, the last people that lived there were apparently slobs and there is a pest issue. I called Orkin, and they should be coming Wednesday before we leave for Bonnaroo...I'm hoping for decent results. I've never used a pest control company before since this is my first house.
I don't mind bugs when I'm outside or camping. It's to be expected, as that is where they are supposed to be. However, I cannot stand having bugs in a house - eeeeeeesh.

What sort of pests? Termites in the wood is bad news, anything else should be no big deal.

I haven't seen any termites or anything like that...if it is termites, that will be the owner's problem. All I've really seen is the typical ants, spiders, roaches, mice droppings, etc. Plus I think the house was empty for a few months which probably didn't help. So nothing bad, just gross.

That is exactly what I moved into. My house was empty for a few months, and it looked like the previous tenant was a dirty, nasty, slob. There were dead baby roaches EVERYWHERE. I was fucking grossed out. Kyle and I scrubbed the house from top to bottom. Just last week, we had an incident with a breaker going bad. The dishwasher and fridge were on the same breaker and it wouldn't stay on. They pulled out the dishwasher to see if it was the dishwasher or the breaker that was the issue... I almost died when he pulled that out. So fucking nasty. I had to get a broom, mop and wash the sheet that was insulating the dishwasher. The landlord asked if I had ever moved that before. I told him if I did, it wouldn't look like that back there. I wouldn't have been able to sleep knowing that was back there. So fucking gross. I am so sorry you have to deal with that.

Yeah, it kind of was a buzzkill for our excitement about moving into the house. We have it set up perfectly, though. The Orkin guy is supposed to show up at 2pm on Wednesday and then we leave for Bonnaroo right after that. So the stuff he does will have 5 days to work its magic without us being there. Hopefully we will be coming back to a pest free home.
I'm with you about being grossed out. I cannot stand the thought of bugs being in my living space. Orkin is kinda pricy, $99 every two months, but the peace of mind is more than worth it for me and I wanted to get the best so we don't have to worry about it.

I could call in tomorrow and I could see her be I don't think she would see me. My sister said that the only response anyone would get is she would open her eyes when someone was talking. I don't know. Maybe I'll try.
edit: Thanks for the condolences.
Even if you go and hold her hand for a bit she will know you're there.

This. I had a friend who ending up dying after falling while riding razor scooters with his son outside. When he was unconscious in the hospital, I was visiting and talking to his wife. He started jerking around, and it was freaking his wife out. I talked to him in his ear and he settled down. It was one of the crazier things I have ever experienced since he was in a medically induced coma.
I went to visit her on Saturday. I was there for 3 hours and she did not open her eyes the entire time. But at least she seemed peaceful and not under too much pain.

Glad you got to spend some time with her, and that she seemed peaceful.

About 3 weeks ago my 14 year old sent me a text that he was feeling dizzy, nauseous and had a headache. I picked him up from school and he looked like he was limping. Pediatrician, Emergency room, ENT, PT and 3 days in the hospital including CT, MRI, more bloodwork than you can shake a stick at and a spinal tap and he's got a dx of acute post viral cerebellitis. His cerebellum is swollen, specifically the part of the cerebellum that controls weight bearing, and as such he can't stand for more than about 5 seconds without a walker without feeling like his legs are going to give out.
The good news? He doesn't have a brain tumor, a spinal tumor, hasn't had a stroke. It's not meningitis, lyme, coxsackie (If you don't have kids I know you think I made that shit up). Not guillan barre, epstein barr, herpes simplex 1 or god know what else.
The bad news? He wasn't sick before this started and now he can't fucking walk without a walker. It's the strangest damn thing, he has total control of his legs sitting, lying down, in a pool but make him weight bear and the kid goes all knock kneed. There is no treatment but to wait 2-8 weeks. He's getting PT twice a week and were working with his at home but for cryin out loud! We've moved his bedroom downstairs into what's always been my staging area so I guarantee I'm gonna forget stuff. He's 14 and has a bath chair, and we've got rented wheelchairs and walker and shit.
The moral of this story? I'm tired of these mutha fuckin snakes on this mutha fuckin plane! No the moral is bear with me. If we know each other and I stare a little blankly at you or worse, if some fat chick with reddish/pink haired comes over and starts talking like we've know each other for years be patient. I'm way off my damn game this year.
The other moral of this story? The next stupid bitch that says "God never gives you more than you can handle!" is going to meet their lord on the fucking spot!

I've been following ya'll's story on FB. I'm sorry you guys are having to deal with this. The good news is he has a "diagnosis" and the medical team can work toward getting him well. Please let us know if we can do anything. I know most of us are far away but you know you can count on us for moral support, gift cards, a bit of cash, etc.
katbur2 i hope that things start improving for you and your son, that must be so scary. like jho said, let us know if there is anything we can do to help. i'll be thinking of you guys.

katbur2, I'm sorry to hear about your son. I'll keep y'all in my thoughts and prayers.
Also, I got the news today that my grandmother passed away at 2 o'clock this morning and her funeral is this weekend. I'm sad but at the same time I'm glad she wasn't in any pain.
