I picked this up at lunch today, gave it an abbreviated listen and dig. I'll have to report back when I get to spend some time with it. It sounds like he's all about the early Springsteen vibe on this one...and I love the idea of that.

Yeah, the Spree's album is pretty dope...they've grown quite a bit. I was at that show at the Metro on the dvd...pretty amazing stuff, although it doesn't come off as awesome as that Japanese performance. As for the Old 97's album, it's a bit of a disappointment. A couple great rave ups, some nice "tear in the beer" tunes here and there, but overall it's pretty d**n lackluster. I was hoping for a return to form, ala "Too Far to Care."
2 new ones I just bought. Elliot Smith-Figure 8 and of course the Garden State Soundtrack. I'm usually not a big soundtrack kinda guy, but I just had to buy this one. The Shins, Iron and Wine, Coldplay, Simon & Garfunkel. Just good poppy stuff. Plus it reminds me of the movie....which I can't get enough of.
Donna the Buffalo-live in Cozumel...I know it's old, but I found it stuck under another dusty cd in the back seat of my car, and I'm diggin' it! Also, my digital cable just got expanded (and less money, go figure) and now we get some retro VH1 channel that plays the Cure, Depeche Mode, the Smiths, all kinds of cool high school daze memories, plus those I have forgotten....last night they played some live PRINCE tune, America, felt like I was strapped into the wayback machine...my little guy (3yrs old) was really getting into some Taylor Dane song that came on....should I be concerned?
That new Interpol album is freakin awsome. I've been listening to that alot. Other than that, it is the usual rotation of Wilco, Modest Mouse, and The Shins. Will I ever tire of these bands? I hope not.
Ok so where is everybody? I just got Elliot Smith-From a Basement the Hill. And the Black Keys new one Rubber Factory. Both very good. Not sure I like the new elliot smith as much as figure 8, but I haven't listened to it enough, I think. The new Black Keys kicks ace, though. If you saw em at roo, or not pick this up for some thick gravy-like blues.

hmmm what have I been listening to lately? I wish modest mouse, b ut someone stole my cd! GRRRR
Nah, but really. A lot of fatboy slim (i really dig his newest cd), a bunch of random stuff, and phish of course. I'm always on the hunt for new music, so I'm constantly listening to new stuff. I've been diggin on hope sandoval. She's pretty damned cool.
it's been a little dead here lately? are you all alive? I'll be gone all of next week... going to be in seattle! Wow, what a coast change
dont forget to vote for whoever you want on november 2nd!
Kings of Leon-Aha Shake Heartbreak Mars Volta-Frances the Mute Snow Patrol-Final Straw Arcade Fire-Funeral (props to aquariumdrunk) Air-Talkie Walkie Phish-12-30-97
The new Mars Volta album is friggin amazing. Don't ask me how I got it (I know secret ninja moves from the government)
Nice. That new Bjork album is pretty sweet. Takes a few listens to get into. For me it's been Bright Eyes-I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. AMAZING album. I especially like the song Landlocked Blues. Now that's songwritting.
Holy 5hit guys, this one is awesome. Not sure how many of you are familiar with Songs:0hia/Jason Molina, but he's a singer/songwriter from Chicago who's very much in the vein of Neil Young. His most recent project is named after his last studio album -- "Magnolia Electric Company." This one is a live album preceding the studio release, out in April or so, and it truly kills. It's very Neil Young & Crazy Horse in its' jammy interweaving guitars, but the songs are much prettier than anything Neil has done in quite some time (IMHO). He actually cuts into a few Neil covers, mid-jam, here and there. Ugh, this is seriously such a pretty record. Put all my whiskey fueled ranting to the side...this one is worth picking up.
EDIT: I always forget about the language filter on here. To make that vaguely coherent, a little cleanup was necessary. ;D
These guys are out there. It's heavier than most things I listen to and although the guy has an amazing voice his style is not my cup of tea but the music is absolutely mind bending.
Sometimes it sounds like a DJ mixing my entire CD collection together and sometimes it sounds like music from the year 2020. The music is amazingly unpredictable and surprising although it always ends up rocking out.
I am getting more and more excited to see their set.
Mars Volta....Yes, they are a strange bunch. Sometimes it sounds like the lead singer is channeling Bjork and Robert Plant at the same time. And I DID buy thier new album (for those of you that are down on downloading). I think they kinda sound like a mishmash of some Zeppelin and Floyd(like Saucerful of Secrets or Umma Gumma Floyd). Heavy metal space rock, or something like that. Keep listening, cause that album will definatley grow on you. I also picked up the Doves new album yesterday. Sounds pretty good from what I've gotten through.
I was not a big fan of Deloused, but I figured I'd give them another shot for $5.99! Wow, yeah, this one is pretty awesome thus far. I'll try to post a few more thoughts when I give it a few more listens. Here's the awesome cover art for those that haven't seen:
Yea, De-loused wasn't all that great, I liked it, but it didn't flow from beginning to end like Francis does. This one is 10X better, IMHO. Good call on the cover art, AD. I read somewhere that the same guy that used to do Pink Floyd's cover art, has been doing Mars Volta's. That factory in the background, and on the inside, kinda looks like the one from the Animals cover. That would be really cool if it was.

Yup, yup -- Storm Thorgerson!
Like you said, same guy who did most of the Floyd covers. He has also done covers for Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Ween, Phish, Alan Parsons, the Cranberries, Styx, and others.
Bright Eyes-Digital Ash in a Digital Urn Cooper Temple Clause-Kick up the Fire and Let the Flames Break Loose Handsome Boy Modeling School-White People The Doves-Some Cities
All of these are REALLY good, IMO. Digital Ash has gotten some sh!t for not being as good as Wide Awake. I think they're just 2 sides of the same coin. It's less itimate, but all the songs are still pretty awsome. Conor is such an amazing songwriter.
