This is nothing that would every fly in the real world, but I think that it would be cool as hell for them to leave at least one headliner TBA. Just imagine everybody standing there, waiting for a headliner and not knowing who it will be. That would be so much fun. Of course, then when if fails to be The Dead or Phish everyone would be let down and that would taint their ability to enjoy the actual headliner. Me, though, I'd be cool with being surprised...

Pearl Jam, Trey Anastasio Band, and The Police!
This would be one of the times i wouldnt be dissapointed in trey headlining at all. But i dont think trey with his band would headline, considering he's played before and not headlined.
Trey's band now is essentially back to the same band he had before when he headlined twice. The only difference is that he switched the drummer, bass player, and trombone player, as well as added an extra vocalist. After the NYE run, I honestly think it would be a big mistake for Superfly to overlook him and not give him either a late night or headlining slot. I've seen alot of Trey shows, and without a doubt the band he has now is the best one he has ever had (outside of Phish of course).

WOW, I'm flabbergasted at the notion that Pearl Jam isn't headliner worthy. They are truly one of the best live acts out there....playing diverse and lengthy sets. I don't think there is honestly anyone who would be a better headliner for 'Roo this summer. Personally, if Pearl Jam is there I'll make the trip across the country regardless of who else is on the bill. I will guarantee I won't be the only one either.

I agree... In fact, I think that if Pearl Jam are announced than we do actually have to be concerned about things like tickets selling out MUCH faster than in recent years- including VIP. American Pearl Jam fans will go crazy, and they are largely disposable-income age--- and determined to be at the first U.S. festival appearance in forever!
Panic plays everywhere. They headline at least 2 or 3 festivals every summer. They are the only band that has headlined Bonnaroo two nights in a row. They played Bonnaroo every year except last year. It's obvious they have good relationship with AC/Superfly. Their is no reason to count them out of any given Bonnaroo or to think them headlining somehwere else will preculde them forma Bonnaroo appearance.

There are some good reasons, and the best that immediately comes to mind is the news article from last year that has this blurb:
"We've always tried to reflect people's diverse music collections,' says Jonathan Mayers, president of Superfly Presents, co-producer of Bonnaroo with A.C. Entertainment. 'We don't want to dismiss our core in any way, but . . . as great as Widespread Panic has been to us and has been a really big part of what we've done, we can't have Widespread Panic every single year."
No doubt WSP will continue to be part of Bonnaroo for years to come, but I wouldn't consider them a likely candidate on the basis of past accomplishments. To me it's much more telling that last year had three entirely new headliners-- I think it's more likely that they'll try to do that again.
I wouldn't hold your breath on a Talking Heads reunion anytime soon.
In the future, I'd love to see them try and get some R&B headliners, but the only two guys that would fit that bill in my mind would be Stevie Wonder or Prince.
I think the person who predicated the classic rock/modern rock/jamband trifecta is right on. The formula works.
Fri: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, CCR/J. Fogerty, Neil Young/CSNY or Springsteen w/ the Seeger Sessions Band Sat: Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the White Stripes or Ben Harper Sun: WSP, DMB, the Dead/Phil and Friends
Long shot - MMJ, Arcade Fire, Willie Nelson, Ben
Sounds to me like this about wraps it up. Sounds good to me.

The only wild card to the Classic Rock/Modern Band/Jam Band formula would be an R&B headliner and/or something like a potential Police reunion. I could see either one of those scenarios derailing things. Also, I think you could count Pearl Jam, Harper or the Stripes as groups that could fill the primetime opening slot at the What Stage (a la Beck or Oysterhead) although of those I could only really see PJ being big enough to headline the fest. Simon, Dylan and Willie could also open for someone like Young or Springsteen because they are known to usual have short sets (of those three Simon would be most likely to be up for a 2 1/2 hour slot).
MMJ and Arcade Fire aren't What Stage level yet to me although I could see MMJ headlining the fest a decade or two from now.

I'd be willing to bet almost anything that MMJ will be right before Pearl Jam on the main stage this year.

Stevie or Prince would make my festival
I'll take a Prince show over a panic show any day of the week.

Exactly what I said earlier. They toured together this year and collaborated an a few songs as well. Vedder joined MMJ for covers of The Band and The Who and MMJ joined PJ on Rockin in the Free World. I totally see that happening again and I will be totally up front rockin out ;D
I really like the idea of My Morning Jacket preceding Pearl Jam. I think that's one of the very few duos that could get me to stake out a spot for most of the day. Especially if they had acts near as good preceding them on the mainstage.

NIN definatly couldn't headline, they didnt even sell out when i saw them, or be close to selling out. Still was an awesome show, and i'd like seeing them in 12am slot. Even if tvotr dont play long sets, there are still shorter night slots that they could fill.
