i would have to say that chacos are my choice.. they are pricey , but you get what you pay for.. i've had mine going on three yrs and the tread is still far from being gone.. thick soles so they are comfy.. i haven't tried on crocs, but they don't seem to be to "secure to the foot" so to say as chacos are literally strapped on and won't come off easily... go chacos..

I just got a pair for my birthday! They are wonderful. Crocs feel great on your feel when you walk and when you take them off it feels like you just got a foot massage. good stuff. A friend of mine actually hiked more than half of the Appalachian Trail wearing crocs, he tried boots and everything but he liked crocs the best.

this dude said to me after langerado, "man, brah, like crocs are the new birkenstocks, like everyone is wearing them, like I'm getting a pair right when I get home brah, like crocs." then he was like "want some pills?"
YOU ALL WON! got my crocs today, I didnt realize they sell em at REI so if i dont like them or my clumsy ass breaks them i can have my $$ back! but they so far are without a doubt the coziest shoes ever

my friends a chef and wears em to work cause he stands all night...they are ok, I tried em on....they feeel real light weight, but I like my feet to be protected and strapped tight.
i just got a pair of niles that i really like; my boyfriend's are beach....i'm thinking about a pair of beach or caymans before roo for a little bit more toe protection

Im picking up this pair of Northface sandals today that are similair to chacos but only $50... Crocs really are everywhere these days... and theres alot of those sandal/shoe hybrids, i been thinking about getting a pair of those, i forget the brand name but they look sweet as hell, i just dont have the money right now, i gotta get hiking kicks sometime this summer and that'll probably be my only $100 footwear purchase this year... Still got my trusty Birks for when its mostly dry out though (dont even bother wearing them into Centeroo)...

I got this plain ole black pair of tevas, same design as chacos, like the single interwoven strap schniz, but they are like 30 bucks, rock hard, and you can run up a mountain in them, like a pair of open toed boots.
i made the mistake of wearin mine today, and ate shit hard! i put lotion on my feet and so they were slick and while helping a client angle around a hill, i lost balance...note to all unfamiliar with the dynamics of a croc NO LOTION!
Poor amber. I think the thing I like best is that they don't slide around. It's like there is something on the inside that keeps your foot stuck. Velcro or something.
with my luck, I'd get the only pair of defective crocs in the world..
see, at '04 my Firkenstocks (read: Fake Birkenstocks) got totally thrashed by the mud and water and rain, so I ditched them and went and bought some of those hemp Jesus-like sandals that were really popular that year.. later that day, it rains and while washing the mud off the sandal, a strap already comes undone... last year I went to smilefest and met the guy who started that whole business and told him about what happened.. he said that had never happend before in just a day
he did give me a free pair though, and that was cool
as long as you have strap-on sandals or boots you will be fine. you dont need to go crazy with wacky types of footwear. if you dont have anything, try out some crocs. i just wouldnt reccommend going out and buying more footwear if you already have some.
Last year, I came with a pair of chacos and a pair of teva flip-flops. Both of them didn't fit after the first afternoon because my feet swelled so badly in the heat. Mind you, I'm from 45 minutes away from Bonnaroo, so I was not expecting that. It didn't matter how I adjusted the straps on my chacos, they simply would not go on. So, I gimped my way over to the tent in Centeroo, bought a pair of Crocs, and I was a happy camper for the rest of the weekend. Mud didn't bother me, because I just went to a water tent and washed them off. No big deal. This year, I'll be bringing my crocs and a pair of Keens that I just bought, as they are more the "tennis shoe" type, a bit sturdier. Hopefully my feet will fit in those.
Keens:
Just to let you know, as of three weeks ago, Binks Sportswear, the people who sold the Crocs in Centeroo last year, are NOT planning on coming back this year.
I've heard that a lot of people like crocs shoes. Everyone seems to like the beach crocs, and I was wondering if anyone likes the nile crocs or if you've heard anything about them. I really want a comfy pair of sandals for bonnaroo, and I would like an open toe.
I've had a pair of nile crocs for about a month and a half now; got my beach ones a few days ago. So far, I like the beach ones better. The niles are comfortable, and I do like the way they look better. However, I think the sole on the beaches might be softer or something because they are just generally more comfortable. Also, and more important for me, there is lot more wiggle room for my toes in the beaches. My pinkie toes are a little confined in the niles. (Of course, I have kind of wide feet, and I really don't like for my toes to feel confined.) The only drawback I've found to the beaches is that at first, the top rubbed against the top of one of my feet, but that seems to have stopped.
Alright, so I have been looking to get a new pair of sandals for 'Roo, but I'm wondering if it's really necessary. Is the mud THAT bad (let's say if it's just an average 'Roo as far as rain goes)?
I have a pair of Birks that I don't care about at all (no backstrap); would these be fine for the weekend if I just keep an eye out for where I'm walking? Or is a heel strap a definite necessity?
no matter what the mud will get you. i spend 90 percent of my roo time barefoot anywyas, i usually only put on my sanadals to cross rocks or to go into the porta pottys. but when you come to the mud you will have to go through it and it will eat sandals. i recommend taking them off and going barefoot through the wost mud but to each their own
Last year it got pretty muddy in a few spots. 2004 the mud was insane, ankle deep in some of the well-traveled areas. Assume that you will deal with some mud. Last year I went barefoot a lot too, it's just easier that way.
