Totally disagree with you guys on the conclusion even though I agree with a few of the points. Imo the Suf album is the one held up by higher highs in Shit Talk, Will anybody ever love and Goodbye. It’s a great big 3, but I would legitimately take 9 songs from Blvd over the 4th best on Suf, and Id take many of those 9 over Evergreen. Also mitchell was the one that taught me the interludes were good. Idk what you guys are on about with that run besides that last song.
Those were 2 and 3 on my list though so its splitting hairs for me.
fwiw I don’t really agree with what he said about that run, it’s not my favorite on the album but I don’t have a problem with it. I was just agreeing with the it needing to be cut.
I don’t need Kinsugi, Fingertips, Fishtails. Also I don’t mind the interludes but I’m not hyped up when they’re up next. I like Taco Truck x VB on the album but like I’ll just go listen to Venice Bitch. There’s a couple others that I like but not in love with also.
This is like my 2nd or 3rd fav album this year so I’m nitpicking with everything else other than Kinsugi, Fingertips and Fishtails.

Lana
Young Fathers
Caroline Polachek
Jpeg and Danny
Notes: already talked about lana v suf. The bottom 2 are massively lopsided for me.
Young Fathers vs Jessie Ware is really tough. They landed 8 and 10 on my year end list. I actually think Jessie’s album has been overlooked in some places simply because its worse than her last album. But she actually did grow a personality on this album. Imo her last albums greatness was based on the songwriting and production. She kinda goes off on this thing on the mic. I think I got a boner one time listening to the title track. The bottle pop track and in so many other places I think shes just way more expressive than before and its a good thing.
It even has better songs than Young Fathers, but for some reason every time I listen to Young Fathers I get the urge to smile and go take a walk outside. Its pretty powerful and played a nice little role in my life last year. I’m placing probably too high of a value on that but oh well.

Actually like Fishtail these days but not peppers so its the same result. My prevailing thought when going back and forth on these two is that Lana’s album just has an overload of value coming from it. Most great albums will have a great 4 song run or something at the beginning of the album, which she has. But then she just slaps an additional top flight 4 song run in the second half.
Just curious - if blvd was trimmed to its best 9 songs, which album would you choose and how close would it be?
Judah interlude really fucks Ocean Blvd for me. I've tried to get over it. I think if that's gone then I'd actually be fine with / enjoy the batiste interlude. 5 minutes of Judah smith preaching every time I replay an album is just annoying as hell. And then more noiseyness with one song in between. I think 1 hour 17 minutes is too long for pretty much any album unless its literally flawless the whole way through.
Realistically if I could cut Judah interlude, kintsugi, taco truck then its down to an hour and my life would be better. I only listen to music by playing albums through so the structure matters to me and I dont want to edit an artists album for them cause I want to see their vision through. Obviously I love Lana so I'm annoyed she made it clunkier than I want it to be lol. I also fucked myself by playing the shit out of the singles before the album dropped which I try not to do cause it changes the flow once you get the whole album.
I'm just bitching cause shes my favorite and I think it was right on the edge of being an all timer for me but slightly missed the mark

I had to hide/block two of those tracks, and I never block LDR tracks.
1. Sufjan Stevens – Javelin 4. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
2. Carolina Polachek - Desire, I Want To Turn Into You 3. Wednesday - Rat Saw God
^ Exactly this. Based on all the history of musical tastes we seem to share, I should've known my guy Fitter Happier and I would have the exact same votes at this point.
