Why do y'all live in miserably cold places like that? I am freezing in the 45˚, 93% humidity bullshit we got kicking here. I can't imagine negative temperatures when the "feels like 39˚" is fucking killing me. I am cold to the fucking bone. My space heater is doing nothing.
we have clothes made for our area. i'm not walking around outside when it's cold out. house set to 70, jacket rated for -20. even when i go out for cigs today i'm not really cold. my legs get a little cold by the end, just gotta know how to live with it. oh and we don't have hurricanes or earthquakes here is a plus
No, just blizzards and below freezing weather. I will pass. I am currently wearing undergarments, cami, sweater shirt, wrap around sweater, leggings, jeans, WOOL socks, leather boots and when I go outside, I add my wool coat, wool scarf and my awesome pokemon hat (Alyssa got me for secret santa). With the humidity, you feel damp and cold to the bone. It is gross and yucky. It makes it hard to warm up. It isn't even as cold as it is going to get and I am miserable. How many layers of clothing would I have to don just to leave the house if I lived in below zero weather? I mean, I will wear neoprene underwear and I have in NOLA and still get cold. I will take hurricanes (we don't get earthquakes), they are more of an inconvenience as opposed to fucking snow everywhere. Fuck that white, fluffy, cold ass shit.

yea i mean the humidity here is only %50 so we don't get the damp. i'm just wearing jeans, t, normal socks and a hoody. throw my heavy winter jacket on over the top and i'm good to go outside for a bit. obv if i'm going to be outside for an extended period of time a hat and couple layers of sweatpants may be required depending time duration outside. snow is just an inconvenience too, but watching it snow is relaxing. driving in it, not so much

WTF?
Is that not what that shit is called? It starts with a N, Kyle and I both have a pair.

long underwear?
It is a material. I bought both Kyle and me a pair when he was getting ready to go to Camp Philmont to snowboard. I don't fucking remember, and when I was typing it out that is how autocorrect spelled it.
I don't mind the cold, to a certain point. As Justin said, you do prepare for it as well. Just add layers for when outside and keep the heat on inside.

I have a fireplace and it has been on everyday since the temps dropped below 60. Don't judge me.

I grew up in Upper Michigan... There are "2 Michigans" as some might claim when they realize I'm not from the same mitten that Detroit is on. I'm from the one north of Wisconsin... Lake effect snow and cold temps well below 0º. I've lived in SC for 13 years and would never ever ever move where it's cold again. It's freezing to me here now and it's 47º.

We are actually colder than you right now. WTF is up with that?
EDIT: Also fuck BOTH Michigans. They both cold as fuck.

The biggest key to dealing with the cold up north is dressing in layers. And when it's snowing, use snow pants or jackets to keep the moisture from seeping into your other garments. It's really not as bad as you think in the tundra, but you don't want to be out in that cold long term when it drops below 20. When it gets to -20, -30 or -40, you pretty much can't be out for more than a brief instant to prevent skin from chapping and cracking if not worse. Most northern cities usually have lower humidity in the winter as the air is heavier and dryer overall whereas down here, it's wet and cold to the point that a 40's windy/misty day like today feels colder to people than a sunny, 25 degree day where the air is relatively dry.
To your earlier post, it doesn't get better. I pretty much always hated cold. I want 95 degrees when I can have it. But the older you get and as your circulation slows a bit, you just get colder and colder. I can recall my grandparents well up into their 90's sitting in their easy chairs in the summer with blankets draped across their legs. My dad (currently mid-80's) keeps his apartment around 80 or so at all times because he's always cold. I'm fn freezing at work today though the heat isn't exactly cranked up in the building.

"Houghton has a humid continental climate but the (typically) long and snowy (due to lake-effect snow, with an average of 218 inches or 5.54 metres) winters make the city feel as though it is in a climate much further north."
^What I got when I googled the snowfall at the local airport: "Average snowfall Hancock, MI." The two towns are right next to each other and put together probably still smaller than most towns.

I want the warm too. But as far as getting colder when older isn't it the opposite for women? I mean we get hot flashes and my mom says that she runs warmer now than she did when she was younger. I need hot flashes today. I am fucking cold.

Those are only temporary though maybe lasting from a few months to a few years. I ran into a friend having one of those at work the other day. And yeah, I don't have the right hormones but I'd seriously love something to warm this f'ing building up today. It doesn't look like we'll be seeing 60 again for at least a week and possibly longer. That really, really sucks. Fortunately, once I've been super cold a couple of times, I get used to it for the year.

My hands will be very dry and cracking until at least March, more like April.
