We got 2 new songs from Memphis Kansas Breeze on the live Comedy Bang Bang episode at Just for Laughs. Pissed at Traci Reardon for eating up so much time that we couldn't get more time with MKB. They just barreled through their songs.
The new one about being cheated on by their truck and making the truck take a lie detector test which is just an oil change is so stupid and amazing.

Mikal Cronin is back on Hollywood Handbook and the songs they make just rock. Kevin's cover of Lizzo rocked and then the Brett and Dana love song killed me.

Finally started "In Voorhees we trust, with Gourley and Rust" after re-watching the first two Friday the 13th's recently. Love these dorks and their analysis of horror.
Have you checked this out at all? I listened to the first episode while doing chores today. It was really fun to hear the gang talk about the creative decisions that went into Phish.

only the first episode, but i really enjoyed it. i always love hearing about phish throwing successful festivals in the 90s when most other US festivals were failures on one level or another. and they did so by using super advanced festival planning techniques like "more bathrooms than we think we'll need" and "provide fans a good experience".
one of my work music friends has listened to them all. she's only seen phish once but after the podcast said she is happy to call herself a fan.
i'll get into the rest soon, just have had other podcasts taking priority.

Yes! It was so great to hear about all the urban design and experience planning that went into everything. I wish they'd come lend a hand in Atlanta.
I'm probably going to fly through this thing though I am trying to slow myself down. Glad you've got a new Phan in the office.

neil young was delightful on conan pod. he was in really good spirits, he seems to have a genuine affection for conan. i laughed out loud multiple times.
i loved how conan kept bringing up his finders fee for the "Heart of Gold Bond" commercial jingle.
I said I would take it slow with Long May They Run and yet I listened to nine episodes in five days. This morning's episode was one of the best by far. You get a Bernie Sanders story from Ben of Ben & Jerry, lots of Katy Tur, and Trey nerding out about Nas. Hard to beat that.

just made it into the second episode this morning. i love that they are detailing the connection between phish festivals in the 90s > superfly jazzfest after dark > bonnaroo. it's the story i always do a poor job of telling here and the pod is really nailing it.
which reminded me of a funny moment. at phish's Bonnaroo 2012 i was on the rail in the pit. Russ Bennett walked up to try to get into the photo pit because he wanted to get over to the soundboard. The security guy would not let him into the photo pit lol, kept telling him he needed to walk around. Bennett was chill and eventually gave up and walked around. i'm sure security guy had no idea Bennett developed the entire aesthetic of Bonnaroo a decade earlier.

That's great haha. Good on that guy for doing his job, I guess.
I LOVED all the stories about Phish festivals. They were all so wildly creative and willing to take insane risks. Those were the kind of stories that drove me to keep listening after I discovered Farmhouse and the like. I'm glad to see behind the curtain a little bit there.
Plus I absolutely want the ice wall idea to happen at some point.
Anybody have any quality, under the radar murder-pod recommendations? I have gotten so desperate that I am embarrassed to say that I have resorted to listening to Nancy Grace's daily crime stories pod just to get my fix. The embarrassing part is that I kinda like it.

Last Podcast on the Left does serial killers, cults (their Jonestown series was very good, as was Mormonism) and supernatural stuff. Their current deep dive is Hadden Clark. Part 2 dropped today and it’s not a bad one to start on if you’re new. They’re the only one I listen to that’s true-crimey.
If you like cults, Heaven’s Gate was a very well done series.
Today on the Ezra Klein Show: Mike Schur and Pam Hieronymi. Mike Schur is Mike Schur, Pam Hieronymi is a professor at UCLA and was the first moral philosophy expert he reached out to when developing The Good Place.
About an hour and forty five minute talk, I'm only a half hour in but it's great so far. Great for Good Place fans or just fans of great podcasts.
Not sure how many people listen to Ezra Klein but he's my current favorite media personality. At his core he's a policy wonk but more generally he is a very curious and thoughtful person. He has all kinds of people on, usually more of the "expert" variety but occasionally someone from entertainment and even more occasionally a politician. I think he is a great interviewer and I always learn something.
