I don't really see a New Basement Tapes SJ happening. yeah, most of the puzzle pieces are on the farm, but that album was pretty boring and the most memorable thing about it is the musicians behind it. It seems much more likely that they play one or two songs during MMJ or Mumford's set than do a full fledged superjam around it. bonnaroo prides itself on the "superjam" concept of getting a bunch of different artists together together that wouldn't normally. Getting a group that cut an album together doesn't really fit that mold, to me. It would come off as kind of lazy, IMO.
but as far as artist additions go, it would be cool to get Joe Russo's Almost Dead to close out after the superjam a la bustle in your hedgerow in 2013.
All you guys talking about Grateful Dead...yeah I'm with you. It'd be killer! Don't know how likely at the end of the day though. BT (old or new) jam would be top notch too but I'm doubtful. That's too much of a rush and honestly when you look at MMJ going into Mumford it'd would be in continuity with roo history to do crossover songs during both sets. Also, when was the last time they had an artist themed superjam versus genre themes. But yeah John Mayer really seemed out of left field.

John mayer was in superjam 05.
Edit: and the bassist in his trio, pino palladino, is on the farm with the vanguard. Calling kevbot for wild john mayer speculation
yeah cdevaney is right. i forgot herbie hanrooster was '05.
Superjam 04 huh? Sure!! He could just randomly walk back in after an 11 year gap out of the blue. Just as long as they don't play any ACTUAL John Mayer songs. If that's the case, we'd be better off having twenty one pilots host this thing.

It would be kinda lazy but I think it'd be fine if they did the people from NBT plus some other musicians playing with them as the core band and then they could have tons of people come do appearances and they could perform music from Bob Dylan's entire catalog and maybe a few of the bigger songs he wrote but other artists performed and a song or two off of NBT's album, that wouldn't be lazy. Just think about the hip hop Superjam from 2013, the backing band was really just Lettuce, which was kickass, with a couple people coming out to perform with them and then each rapper that came out performed their own songs. So it was really just like watching Lettuce do a hip hop cover show and then watching a bunch of rappers perform with a live band instead of their regular setup. That, to me, is less creative than the idea I proposed for NBT performing stuff from all of Bob Dylan's catalog. for the record, I am a HUGE fan of the 2013 hip hop Superjam, so I'm not bashing it for being uncreative or anything, I'm really using it as proof of how kickass the Bob Dylan show could be.
Also, Joe Russo's Almost Dead is pretty dope and it'd be awesome to watch them do a marathon set, jamming Grateful Dead tunes into the sunrise

John mayer was in superjam 04.

I don't think that's correct.
He did play with Herbie Hancock in 2005 during his Which set, though.
What the fuck are you guys talking about? This thread is for Jurassic World.
Yeah, sorry everybody for derailing the thread so much but its not like I was taking away from anything. I think that may have been the most I've ever derailed a thread (which I say right after I derailed the upcoming shows thread... My bad gang)

Any derailment that includes Jurassic Park is okay in my book.

I was there in 04 and I can tell you that John Mayer wasn't in the SuperJam that year. This was the SuperJam lineup that year:
Stanton Moore Maceo Parker George Porter Eric Krasno Neil Evans Papa Mali Adam Deitch Reggie Watts

I was there as well though i skipped the SJ for david byrne, i think. I was at the what stage all day that sunday.
i saw him with herbie in '05, i just typed it wrong in the first post, and edited it to correct that.

Scroll up son. You're a little late to this Mayerbating session

One thing that gives me hope for more additions, the Pixies seemed like an obvious one with them opening for Robert Plant around the date. I think there's still a very good chance they are added
Seriously, if we don't get them that'd be a bummer, they are already touring with Robert Plant, why not?
I'd laugh if they were just nonchalantly added to the line-up with the schedule drop like Coachella did that one year.

Woah man... woah.
I am not down with John Mayer songs, but I agree with the "woah man", in the Twenty One Pilot hosting part of this.

I love John, but understand why some people don't. But the man is insanely talented, and to compare him to 21 pilots is overkill I think haha. But really, John Mayer has some great songs and is insanely good at guitar. He get's way more hate than he deserves. His live shows are fantastic.

That'd be a great surprise but I'd be pissed until I realized it because I'd be thinking there was no more hope and that a bonnaroo just fucked up and didn't book them, which really bum me out but it would be one less conflict and I'm seeing em at Shaky Knees anyway.

He is an astonishingly talented guitarist. I did not realize this until I made fun if a frat guy a couple years ago for listening to John Mayer but then he goes, "Oh no, man. His music can be kinda lame but he shreds on the guitar" I thought there was no way he was for real, so he showed me some examples of Mayer on a guitar and I was blown away by his skill. (Little did I know, that guy I thought was some douchey bro had been playing guitar since he was in middle school and he had a lot of skill himself. So, he really knew guitar and great guitarists like the back of his hand)
Oh yeah. Sorry guys! I was just being dramatic to get across a point. For the record a twenty one pilots jam would be just god awful and probably worse than a Jon Mayer one. I totally respect that people are into JM, he's just REALLY not my thing. But I still didn't mean to step on anyone's toes!

I was not knocking his guitar skills, which I know he has. I am not a fan of his music. He is actually pretty hilarious also(at least he was before he became hugely popular and kinda douchey), he did some Dave Chapelle skits and I saw some of his earlier pranks.

Who did Coachella do that with?
The Pixies, ironically enough. Julian Casablancas + The Voidz was the other.

Bingo. I didn't like John Mayer until I started playing guitar. A friend of mine showed me his live album "Where the Light Is" and I was pretty blown away. Then as you try to learn his simple stuff, you realize he's using absurd techniques that "pop" musicians would never dream of playing and singing at the same time. And then when you really dig, you realize he has some great, great tunes. I skip about half of them, but I constantly find myself re-appreciating John Mayer as I continue to play and listen to new up and comers.

Oh yeah. 21 Pilots blow pretty hard. Unfortunately, I think everyone in my group this year except for me are wanting to go to their show. Eh. Honestly, even though their music annoys me, they don't anger me as much as some other acts do. Theyre easy for me to ignore. Also, I'm now going to try to look up some Jon Mayer stuff later. His songwriting and and general track instrumentation is always what has left me underwhelmed but I'm sure his skills are pretty raw. I've never heard anything THAT impressive personally but I'll look into it.

Nothing is worse than 21 Pilots. Nothing.
I try not to hate things, but holy shit.
As bad as they are, there is always worse... don't fool yourself.

Oh, I didn't think you were, I'm in the same boat as you. I do not enjoy his music, but he is talented on his guitar. I was simply supporting what Black Dynamite was saying about Mayer's guitar skill
