a few songs into The Libertines and I have to agree it's nothing special thus far. I just had hopes that DeLong would improve, idk why. Bob Moses is good but I'm not crazy about it.I forgot about Maiden, but it seems your love for them is far greater than mine (though I'm quite a fan of them.) I changed over to Ought's new album and I am digging it
I was going to check it out, but my friend said the first song sounded like bigroom house. The hell?
Dude, Robert DeLong has been a shitty Ultra/EDC/Perry's/Sahara-style artist in waiting for a minute now. The only thing separating him from them was the delusion of his face painted fans. He's pretty trite garbage.
I guess I still had the Global Concepts Robert DeLong image in my head.

Some of that earlier stuff showed promise with a Postal Service feel, but everything has been super bad ever since.
The joystick was a precursor to a nose dive into cheese.
For October (even though I doubt anything is going to beat Deerhunter for me), this Alex G album seems like it is going to be a top contender for me just based off the two singles.
Really wasn't a fan of the Bad Blood cover released first, but I have to say that the whole album is pretty great from my first listen through.
Yeah I'm joking about AOTM, but it's a fun listen.
He overdoes it a bit too much on most songs, imo. Either way too sappy and 'emo' or way to Bruce Springsteen-esque.
But don't you think all of Ryan's work is pretty sappy/emo? I remember they used to call him the alt-country Morrissey. So while your critique is fair its one that could be leveled against most of his catalog, so not unexpected.
I'm late to the Taylor Swift 1989 party but after listening to it a few times over the past 24 hours I think the source material is pretty goddamn sad and emo, too. Very much in a good way.
