I thought Jamie XX's album was a little "ordinary"/"basic" the first few times I tried it. I think it's because I'm not a big EDM fan. It has really grown on me this week, though, and I am starting to appreciate it more. I like Bully, Florence and the Machine, and Jenny Hval's albums too, so far.
You live in a curious world where Jamie xx is ordinary and Mumford had one of the best albums of May.

FTFY.
Yeah, I'm generally all for the "each to their own" attitude - but calling In Colour ordinary upon first listen... Cannot. Compute.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
No way people are talking about In Colour in 50 years.
You're an idiot.
What I meant by that was, just as Kind of Blue has become the "great jazz album" for people who don't really like jazz or know much about it, In Colour is being similarly trumpeted as this amazing, innovatively great electronic album by people who barely pay attention to that genre.
I don't think it's that important. It's good though.

Lol! I loved that post. I don't think a lot of people listened to MaS's album enough. Don't get me wrong... it won't make my Top 30 list... but "Wilder Mind" and "Only Love" and "Ditmas" are some of Mumford's stronger tracks.
I also said I liked Jamie XX's album. It just took awhile to grow on me. I have to listen to an album several times to get into it. I will admit that I didn't like it at first, though.
For what it's worth before checking back on this thread I had a similar thought about the Jaime xx album. I've been listening to it in the car, at work and on my headphones on repeat for the last two days and I think it's masteful. I was going to say that I think it's my favorite record outside of artifakts bc (which is for me like saying it's the greatest book since the bible). Kind of Blue? That's a high bar but it's special. The subtle ways in which it's great I think are timeless
Edit: Hmmm, I unzip it, and nothing's in the folder. Anyone else have this issue?
Same issue here.
I tried two browsers too (Firefox and Chrome). Only sources I come across link back to the same original link. If anyone has any help/another source, it would be appreciated!
I get some error when I try to unzip it, something about the encryption.

I kept getting a weird error from winRAR, but it had to do with the MacOSX folder inside. I just ignored the errors and it worked just fine. I can throw it on dropbox if ya'll want.

At least until I listen to that Nicolas Jaar release, In Colour wins the month for me. I just turned the album on for the first time since bonnaroo and hearing Gosh after being at his show is amazing. I really doubt Jaar's is gonna top In Colour for me because of having the live connection with this album

if I fall in love with this new nicolas jaar as much as I did with that darkside album..... oh boy.
What I want is to see Jaar do a show with this entire album with the movie it is set to playing behind him. I really like this album thus far, I'm like 1/3 of the way through it
giving everything everything - get to heaven a listen right now. halfway through I am digging it. sounds kinda like TVotR meets Foals. It's 17 tracks though, I can see it getting a bit tedious. I doubt it will be my vote, but it has been a pleasant surprise this month.
Great record, the band have really grown. Earlier albums were patchy but some great songs.
For what it's worth, the album is only actually the first eleven, the other six is deluxe/bonus material. Dunno if that makes any odds or not.
Did Wolf Alice come out in the states this week? That's definitely a runner for me. Haven't voted the last few months, but with Everything Everything, Wolf Alice, Jenny Hval and Jamie XX, it's a great one to sink my teeth back into.

...have you listened to any of his other stuff that ISN'T Darkside? Because Darkside and Nico Jaar's solo stuff are completely different.
I have not listened to jaar's solo stuff as much as darkside, definitely not. (something I def need to work on) but I think I wrote that more in the mindset regarding how I thought I hardly cared for that style of music (darkside) and then found myself still completely obsessed with it two years later. we shall see.

smellycat's post in Now Playing reminded me that I wanted to say, while it won't get top honors for the month, I enjoyed Florence and the Machine's album way more than I expected.
Jamie xx and Bully are at the top of my list, but this has been another stacked month. Also as a side note I am loving all the great female fronted bands this year. Bully, Hop Along, Diet Cig, and Colleen Green have all had some strong albums.

Sleater Kinney and screaming females were this year too.
