Both Kendrick and Drake are just bragging to their established fanbases about their respective accomplishments that the other wasn't really trying to do anyway. Drake wanted money and fame, he got it. Kendrick wanted to be recognized as the greatest rapper of his generation. He pretty much is. It feels like going in circles to me, except we also get to see Kendrick so eloquently accuse Drake of being gay.
Given the stage / moment, Kendricks diss could be one of the worst I’ve ever heard. Pales in comparison to Story of Adidon.
A bunch of allusions to "having something big" on each other but neither dropping the bomb just screams publicity stunt to get them both listened to more. I think the diss is hilarious, but lacks substance beyond that one YouTube video who goes "His hair? Whack. His clothes? Whack. His shoes? Whack. The way he don't even like to smile? Whack."
I enjoyed the song, lots of clever wordplay and funny bars, but I wouldn't say he destroyed Drake. Made Drake look like even more of a goober than he usually does? Absolutely, but we already knew that he was one.

For starters... I've always been "meh" on Kendrick compared to everyone else, but now I'm starting to think he's just a horrible rapper. He sounds fucking pathetic on this track. It couldn't be any less pleasing to my ears. All the voice cracking and inflections. And most importantly he's basically off beat. It is really reminding me of later stage Eminem these days where he's over-prioritizing... creativity... I guess... instead of sounding good. At some moments the flow really sounded like a high school kid trying to cram in syllables here or trying to find the rhythm there. I wanted to comment on the beats being ehh, but then I thought, "idk maybe these would be good if he was actually flowing with them." As a song, this shit is an extremely unpleasant listen. Unlistenable moving forward.
The packaging of the content is meh. No classic lines. So many that you have to think about or research about. What ever happened to clearly making fun of somebody in a way that makes people instantly laugh or look at your opponent in a different way?
As for the content, I was worried about what his angles would be going in. And I was worried for good reason. 95% of the "hard hitting" angles he took have already been beaten to death or done significantly better.
Drake isn't black enough or is confused about his own standing in the black community. I think one of Kendrick's strongest moments here is when he's like "I don't like hearing you use that word," and even that is like 25% as impactful as what Pusha already did. Push using the Drake blackface as the cover, The Story of OJ beat, and saying that Drake is "afraid to grow it cuz your fro wouldn't nap enough" is such a powerful combination. 1 line, but the beat selection (OJ is a song that discusses different "kinds" of black people if you aren't familiar... and that that concept is a confusing one that doesn't really make sense), and the single art... it all concisely delivers the message that DRAKE is insecure about his blackness, and has made embarrassing public choices based on that. Thats what makes it powerful. Push was like Drakes public therapist, prodding at things that Drake has put out there.
But Kendrick says, "how many more black features until you finally feel like you're black enough." First of all, the concept is no longer impactful because Pusha T aced this angle. But like... almost all rappers are black? And all rappers do a lot of features with each other? It lands so softly. You might as well just say "you rap to feel blacker."
Kendrick mentions the ghost writing... not impactful. That wasn't even Push, that was Meek who exposed that. That's why it was so brilliant for Pusha T to begin his diss with "Ghost writing aside, lets have a heart to heart about your pride." Pusha was aware enough to realize there wasn't any more in the ghostwriting well for him to be effective, so he found his own angle. Kendrick didn't have a new angle. He also touches on it in an unconvincing way. Its not 1 v 20 this its 20 v1 that... ok if anything then its 20 v 20 because there are still a lot of people lined up against Drake.
Kendrick uses the "no YOU are signed to a lot of bad deals" angle that Pusha already smashed cash money with. He mentions the fatherhood stuff... lightyears less interesting than when Pusha did that originally and exposed the childs existence in the first place. Also Kendrick is way less funny than push. Pusha: "YOU ARE HIDING A CHILD let that boy come home. Deadbeat motherfucker playing boarder patrol." then "love that baby, respect that girl, forget shes a pornstar let her be your world." yeeeauuuck! I was smiling typing that out. Kendrick is like... "You arent teaching your son to pray like I am."
He hits on Drakes abs, but Rick Ross just did that like a week ago.
Not to mention.. Push accomplished far more in like 2-3 mins than Kendrick did in 6 minutes.
Woof man... this is a horrible sounding song that is badly rapped on and I don't think any differently about Drake than I did before hearing it.
The thing is, Drakes diss was kinda trash too. At the very minimum he flows well and his delivery is great. I think the angle of calling out Kendrick, the artist's artist, for doing T Swift verses is great. I think the size 7 shoes line is funny as fuck. But its embarrassing that Drakes main route was the "drop and give me 50" line. It should go unsaid... but dude Push hurt you so bad about the Cash Money deals... you now think thats a powerful thing that people care about and are using what was just used against you on Kendrick? Also the public doesn't really care about this shit. You are all rich. Pusha was mainly using it int he full context of analyzing why you are so mad and insecure despite your positioning in life.
This back and forth has been pathetic so far.
The Story of Adidon is the greatest rap diss of all time and by a wide margin. Following it would have been nearly impossible, but this was so much worse than I expected.

Yeah this is key. You want your opponent to be looked at differently (worse) once the dust has settled. Or you at least want the people on your side to be proudly screaming along to your song. This thing does neither for me.

The thing is you should be comparing this to Infrared not Adidon. I think you are incorrect framing is why you feel this way. I don't think the intention was to change everyone's perception of Drake but just spell out why K Dot does not fuck with Drake and now we know.
This diss had me laughing the whole time and I am pretty sure that was the intention. This is 100% the best diss to come out of this its just straight hating for 6 minutes and was very direct.
I think Kendrick pointed out a lot of things the main stream has been ignoring like Drake using Yachty, Sexyy Red, 21, etc. to stay relevant, telling Drake he still needs to respond to Pusha still, calls out that Drake for trying to get Like That taken down (song is back to #1 on Apple Music btw), and addresses the AI bullshit.
Is it the best diss track ever no, but its pretty good.

Infared was Kendricks Like that. The provoking verse. This should absolutely be comped to adidon. Thing is 6 minutes it should have been an opus. There was the same amount of build to Adidon as there was to Euphoria and I would say there has actually been a lot more to Euphoria.

If you remove any subtlety / nuance then yes it should be compared. Like That is still a subliminal and just a surprise feature on a Future album, Infrared is a Pusha song directly addressing Drake, and the feature was mainly just puffing out the chest saying I am the best with some implied shots.
Euphoria is the first time in Kendricks career he is being direct about anything really and wants everyone to know he doesn't like the way Drake walks / talks and make it clear so even Drake fans understand that. This clearly does not have the intention of a knock out punch so I don't know why we should treat it as one its more of Kendrick clearly stating his intent. At face value Pusha is a more direct guy bro literally brings up Wayne / Birdman on Infrared meanwhile Kendrick is making vague references to Drake on Like That the two shouldn't be compared.

This should be flagged for misleading information. The timeline and flow of this beef is almost exactly the same.
Pusha T's lines were completely tame in Infared with 1 maybe 2 being directly at Drake. But everyone did know he essentially called out Drake.
Kendrick on Like That absolutely called out Drake as much as, or more than, Pusha did on Infared. Both were just one verse, but I would say Kendricks was a more high-profile moment. They both were clearly not a full on diss track, and they both stand as their own songs without even needing the diss.
Both of those verses were the inciting incident of the beef. Clearly.
Drake responded to Pusha T with Duppy Freestyle. Drake responded to Kendrick with 50 Pushups and the AI song.
Pusha T responded with a 2-3 minute song fully and clearly aimed at Drake at the end of which he says, "we're just getting started. Gonna peel it back layer by layer. Surgical Summer Vol. 1"
Kendrick responds with a 6 minute diss song fully and clearly aimed at Drake and throughout it he talks about how he's got a bunch of good shit that he's holding back.

Infrared is pretty direct the whole verse is about Drake. I have had multiple friends and randoms that had no idea K Dot was addressing Drake and Cole on Like That till someone spelled it out and even had questions on why K Dot was dissing them. Also Like That is a response to First Person Shooter as well you can't make the 1 for 1 comparison with the Pusha situation like you keep trying too. First Person Shooter is also a response to those K Dot / Keem tracks where K Dot was talking his shit.
I think Pusha / Kendricks approach and intent on the tracks are completely different. The timelines are different and the way this is playing out is different.

This is so confusing.
So your core point was that this is just the warm up and cant be compared to Adidon. I dont know how anyone can take that seriously. Its double the length of adidon. Full on at Drake. And both were the second track, but first one that was a clear as day, intentional diss to drake.
This was Kendricks moment, and he bricked it. Hopefully, he has another one coming where he raps good and says something interesting.

The reason why you are confused is you are not informed this isn't the 2nd track Kendrick or Drake has released on this topic.
Kendrick has recently (2020s) dissed Drake on:
Family Ties
The Hillbillies (Keem and Kendrick sample Drake and clown on him)
Like That
Euphoria
If you think Euphoria is the 2nd track you are behind and/or not paying attention.
We wouldn't have even gotten Like That if it wasn't for First Person Shooter 1 or 2 years ago. Just the inclusion of First Person shooter destroys the Pusha T comparison as this has been spanning YEARS not a month.

All of that pre cum is adjacent to Push taking lil shots at wayne and drake over the years.
Like That is the main thing that got us here. It was when we knew all of this would proceed. But either way you are using this to excuse the bad diss. “Hey this isnt the meat and potatoes give it a pass.” Its a 6 minute song following 2 drake disses. Its a real diss that shouldnt be given any excuses.

It's a great diss track.
I never once said what you are saying here. You are just fundamentally ignorant to what is going on and spreading fake news claiming this is the 2nd diss track and spreading a fake timeline to meet your shit narrative. Then when I present new information you do a horrible job dismissing me.
The whole reason we are here is either A. The Hillbillies or B. First Person shooter.
It's not Like That objectively speaking as it is a response to First Person Shooter which is a response to The Hillbillies.
So timeline wise this is spanning at least almost a year now. So why are we drawing comparisons to Pusha / Drake when its not like that situation at all.

Get a new slant.
There is no slant or shift. I claimed this is a horrible diss track with thorough reasoning. And you tried to provide some air cover by saying this should be compared to Infared. You clearly said that to insinuate that this shouldn't be judged at the real deal. Its just the preamble. Just as Infared was the preamble to Adidon.
The reason I haven't seen anyone else across the internet say that or buy that is because its a 6 minute direct diss track to Drake. It is actually less of a preamble than Adidon was. It's only because its so much worse that it feels like it isn't.
I also have not met another human that isn't painfully aware that the sparking event of this whole "hip hop civil war" was Like That. And Drake did his first full response to it the same way he did his first full response to Infared. My argument here is pretty crystal clear regarding the timeline and where we are at in the process.
But none of that is as important as: this Euphoria song should be fully judged as a real, thoughtful diss track, not a build up song. This is fully on Kendricks resume. This isn't a mixtape to an album where its like "ahh that doesnt really count." That is the only important thing I'm taking issue with here.
The whole reason we are here is either A. The Hillbillies or B. First Person shooter.

Kendrick's parents birthing Kendrick was the real start of the beef!
The way your are viewing this is so foreign to me, but even if I granted it to you... it doesn't provide air cover for Euphoria as "simply a warm up track" akin to Infared.

The thing is right everyone is viewing it from this lens of oh Kendrick fired the first shots starting the hip hop Civil War when its been going on. It's like the Cold War people didn't realize they didn't announce the start of it. First Person shooter went #1 in the US and Hillbillies was so popular people started asking for the K Dot x Keem collab album and they went on to headline Flog Gnaw. People in every comment section I saw were talking about oh is Drizzy or K Dot going to respond.
Euphoria is not a warm up track its an escalation they have been warmed up. If anything we should be comparing this to one the lead up tracks to Supa Ugly or Ether where Jay Z and Nas were being a lot more direct with why they hated each other. I don't think this is beef is anywhere near done I think we are going to get a more drawn out conclusion similar to a Jay Z / Nas judging by how things have played out thus far. Pusha T basically just dropped the nuke and dipped this isn't the standard for rap beefs and why it shouldn't be our comparison right now. Euphoria is not the drop the bomb track its a let me make myself perfectly clear track.
Kendrick completely comes after Drake's character on this track, while it doesn't have the damming new information like you are hiding a child fundamentally it is a great diss track covering nearly every facet of Drake's character. Kendrick covers all of his bases and its obvious he is trying to take the highest road he can while actively dissing someone and is trying to show how he is trying to change aka all the Mr Morale references. When he starts giving advice to Drake on how to be a better father so his son ends up nothing like him is so brutal. Even the beat selection is insane interpolating the beat of the shit AI song then out rapping Drake on it, interpolating Get em High by Kanye, and the Teddy Pendergrass sample he uses to start the track so good.
