Not necessarily hip hop news but I didn't know where else to put it. Joey Bada$$ went on twitter to condemn the media for them "slandering" Bill Cosby and he's trying to school some kids in not trusting the media. Only his comments come across like someone who doesn't understand the situation. He says "slander" so much it reminds me of times when friends would learn a new word/phrase and proceed to use it a bunch after learning what it meant or because it made them sound smarter or something. He basically is saying that the media is doing this (being extra vicious) to Bill Cosby because he's an honorable black man (though he makes sure to point out that he's not defending rape/a rapist).
Check it out: If you don’t follow me on Twitter, I just tweeted some shit saying I don’t fuck with the Bill Cosby slander, and I’m getting a lot of slander thrown at me because of it. Let me tell you…
The annoying thing is him asking rhetorical questions like "They said that he admitted this in 2005 but I aint seen shit" and "Why did it take 10 years to come up now? Why not in 2005?". All of these could simply be answered by doing the tiniest bit of research.

He makes a good point about people turning this into a meme, which is probably a big source for his frustration. It seems like he believes Bill Cosby was a big idol and role model for the black community, and people are being too quick to crucify him based on information coming from a source he believes has an agenda against the black community. Ironically, this will get spun into "Joey Bada$$ defends rape" soon enough

People make jokes about everything. He's saying "we don't make jokes about murderers" but we most certainly do. Everything is made fun of in some way at some point.
Also, I disagree that people are being too quick to crucify Cosby. This has been a "known secret" in his industry for decades and has been something that took a long time to finally catch on. It's not like he never had accusations of this kind or other shady past controversies. It's coming to light and catching on a lot more right now but this has been a long time coming.

he comes off as having no idea what he's talking about. If you rape multiple women you deserve all the "slander" that comes your way and trying to say this is just the media spinning the story when they ignored it for years is a bit absurd.
I'm not saying I agree with him, just that his point is more akin to "don't trust the media" than "Bill Cosby is innocent"
Right. But even his "don't trust the media" comes from a place of ignorance. His talking about the 2005 deposition makes it clear he didn't really look into anything himself. He just dismisses what he's heard because it's "the media".
I haven't been able to take Joey Bada$$ seriously since his beef with Lil B
To be fair he was 18 at the time, and I'm pretty sure it all started with Joey quoting his dead friend. But yea, there's literally no way to come out winning from a Lil B beef. Whats a king to a basedgod?

Yeah that's true. Still, I'm the Bada$$ was such a funny diss track I don't think I can ever take Joey Bada$$ seriously again. I think the only rapper that has ever recovered from a beef with Lil B was Rocky. And that's mostly because he's based now himself.
I will say he's probably the first rapper to use social media to keep himself relatively famous despite shitty music, giving us people like Riff Raff. He also influenced the nba playoffs by cursing James Harden.
I wish we could have a legitimate discussion of Lil B's influence on hip hop in here
I'm interested. As far as I know he has influenced none of the hip hop I've ever listened to.
I'll respond to this when I get to a computer. But Lil B has had a huuuuge impact on ASAP Rocky, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler, the Creator, and others. And even a minor influence on Kanye West

It's not a joke and his music is far from shitty. But i love the exposure he got from the playoffs and the James Harden beef

Here are quotes from rappers describing Lil B's influence on their careers
Danny Brown:
When you see what he’s doing does that change the way you approach your own music? No. It just let me know what I was doing was kinda right. Because what I was doing, it was always shock value in it in some sense. It was always shock value going on in my everyday life though, I just figured out a way to exploit it a little more for humor purposes. But yeah to see a person like him, I think he know how nice he is and he know he’s not getting the respect for how nice he really is and then he just did something to get your attention. And now that he got your attention he’s gonna show you the lyrical shit. For him to figure out that strategy that was kinda ill. I don’t know if he thought like that but it’s almost like “I’m gonna write the worst rap I can possibly write and you still gonna like that and when I am writing raps for you to like you’re gonna like that too!” I don’t think no other rapper could do that. Because we’re so caught up in being rappers and trying to be nice and everything you say is better than the next man. For a person like him to be like “I’m just gonna say what the fuck I want” and that’s it, you gonna love it. Because of the confidence of the rapper presenting it to you. “And I can rap, so when it’s time for me to show you I can rap I’mma bust your ass.”
Danny Brown: "If you look at that album right now, it's influenced so much of what's going on right now. In this day and age, that album is a holy grail. A lot of us wouldn't be around if it wasn't for that album. That's the first time we heard Clams Casino. How many songs have we heard songs named after somebody? He started so much shit. You can't really hate on Based God. That album was the beginning of all that."
"My favorite song off the album would probably be 'I'm God.' He's a homie. We worked together when I used to be with Yayo. I was living with Yayo at the time, and he came through the crib and we did a couple joints. I support everything Based God does. At one point in life he was facing 36 years in prison and now all he preaches is positivity. You can't hate on people like that. At the end of the day, he's not a sellout. He stuck to what he wanted to do and keeps doing it. You gotta respect him. "
Earl Sweatshirt:
What is it that you love about him? I know a lot of “purists” get confused about what you see in him.
I f*ck with Lil B because when he came out he just changed so much shit. I remember seeing his shit in 2009, before it was cool to like him. Before it was some niche thing like, “Yeah like I’m really into like shitty photos and the only rap music I listen to is Lil B.” And the n*gga is very thorough. You can tell he really listens to rap music, just because of how all over the place his music is. Like, he has shit that sounds like f*cking Hot Boys shit, he has shit that sounds like Dipset, he has shit that sounds like literally everything. And at the end of the day, that n*gga can rap his ass off.
