I honestly just wanted everybody to like the set. Not sure that makes me a hater, but I get the point.
This. I really wanted to leave Kanye and feel like he was hands down the best set of the festival. Unfortunately the setlist is what held it back for me. I was disappointed that he wasn't my favorite set of the weekend, but I still thought he was fantastic
Kanye not being the best set of the festival has a lot to do with how tremendous Chance was.
I caught Jack the week before at Gov Ball and skipped out on his Roo set. What was horrid about the show? It's Jack going onstage and shredding his guitar for 90 or so minutes, I'd assume, so what were you expecting?
You missed the point of my post entirely I see.
No, it was pretty obvious... I just saw no reason to comment on it. I found the opinion you expressed about Jack White more interesting, so I asked a follow up question. So... what was "horrid" about the Jack White show? I'm genuinely curious...
Oh and IDC what anyone says, the Blood on the Leaves encore was the greatest thing ever. That made the entire show for me.
What was so great about the encore? Aside from the song itself, I guess... Idk. As someone who enjoyed the set itself, I found "this is my last song" the most disappointing moment of the night.
Pick a better place for him to close a set with a song about the inherent racism of the world than in the heart of Tennessee.

I wish I would've seen the whole thing, I stopped by when he was starting Cocoa Butter Kisses and stayed until the end. He was great

I don't like Jack White but I went in willing to give it a shot, but still hated it. The point is the reasons why I didn't like it are irrelevant, as I'd rather be happy for those that DID like it instead of focusing on ME.

Don't say that. I was overheating and missed the set.

He's not a hater but someone that likes Kanye making the same points that people that don't like him were making seemed like a good place for this all to stop. There were reasons to not like the show, there are plenty of reasons to not like the man. If the lovers would allow us that I think we would get along a lot better. Instead of insulting people, how about "ok I understand why you didn't like the show/don't like Kanye, personally I loved the show and I love everything Kanye does." No one is going to say you're wrong for that. Most of the fuck Kanye stuff is jokes to set the lovers off because it's so easy to do, I know that's why I do it. Why we can't just let each other hate/love in peace?
I thought the "Kanye haters" were leaving this thread though? And that the argument had ended?
Also, we could probably pick similar fights but everyone knows Clutch sucks. No reason to argue that.
Edit: oh and it's really cool of you to say that you openly heckle fans of artists you don't care for. Way to radiate positivity and all that bullshit (though I've made similar moves with JW fans so I'm probably not the best guy to be telling you that)
I didn't do it at roo, I just do it you assholes because I love you all.

Again, I got it. I actually did want to know why you didn't like it, so that's why I asked. I missed the show, and wanted to know if I missed something. I had a hard time believing Jack White did a horrible job of playing his own music. You seem to be passionate about people accepting Kanye for who he is, but condone "hating" another talented musicians performance? I can't think of a single show I've been to at Bonnaroo that I "hated". I'm sorry that you were unable to enjoy a great guitarist having fun on stage at a music festival.
-I thought it was interesting that he had a guy on stage to cover for him when he missed a line & help hit the right notes when he was singing. I don't think this is an oddity for hip-hop, I just noticed it.
How did something this idiotic not get pointed out?
How is that idiotic? I was in the pit, & could pretty clearly see when lines were getting said by the other guy instead of Kanye... and when he was singing notes along with Kanye.

Uh, sorry? I don't know how you got me condoning hate out of personally disliking a performance, yet stating that I respect that others enjoyed it. Unless your mistaking me for someone else, I've never asked a single person to accept Kanye, nor encouraged others to re-evaluate how they felt about the set. I am quite aware (like with my perception of Jack White) that music is a highly personal thing, and it would be ridiculous for me to ask others to like something they just don't.
Respect, that's what this is about. I didn't go an boo Jack White simply because I didn't like him, I gave it a chance, didn't like it, and left. Why are you trying to pick a fight where there isn't one to be had?

To be fair, if I would have had to sit through the Kanye show, I would have hated it. No matter how talented he is or how much fun he was having on the stage. Because I do not care for his music....it has nothing to do with talent or how much stage presents they have. She doesn't seem to like Jack White...much like I do not like Kanye. What is the big deal?

I have to talk about this for a second, as it's bothering me. You could fill in "great guitarist" with just about anything, great rapper, pianist, violinist, polka band, mime, brass band, mariachi, etc. This sentence literally means zero.
To talk down to someone for not being able to "enjoy a great guitarist" is absolutely condescending, and rude. There are bands you don't like, right? Would you sit through something you just plain didn't like, feign interest just because? I'm not sitting here calling people idiots for liking a certain artist, I'm an adult and I can make my own informed choices on what does and doesn't interest me musically, while respecting others ability to do that as well. You don't have to feel SORRY for me that I don't like something you do, I'm doing just fine thanks.

Kanye's got the type of arrogance and ego that points out flaws in your shit. If you're uncomfortable about yourself, you're gonna be mad at Kanye. If you're uncomfortable within yourself and not comfortable with the type of person you are, when you see him on his shit it's going to make you mad because it makes you feel bad about yourself. Because you wish you could be that passionate about anything in your life as he is about his music. You see that and you're like "I wish I could be that passionate, but I can't, cause I'm just a sucka" -- Talib Kweli
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna see Jack in Detroit next month, since I left his set early try and get a good spot for Frank, but they switched tents without me knowing
Made may way over to Frank in time finally to catch Novacane, and then I went to lay down and fall asleep, due to being overtired from Friday.
And yes, Chances set was fantastic from what I remember, really tempted to get a day pass for Sunday of Lolla to see him and Bino. But I also want to see Outkast.... ahhhhhhh what to do!!!!
I can understand if you didn't like that the side screens were used or that you couldn't see him bc the center screen never really showed him either, but no one can complain about the setlist bc he played more hits than anyone else all weekend. Horn is right when comparing his set to Radiohead 2012. If you were up close you thought that show was legendary most likely, but if you were in the back it was so-so or a disappointment. This is the case for almost all shows though. The closer you are the better the energy. So don't complain if you just plopped your ass down in the back and made no attempt to be apart of the show.
Watch a video of Blood on the leaves at the X Games and compare.... the energy behind it was insane. Maybe it's just the spot that I was at, but everyone was going crazy.
I was in the center of the pit, maybe 10 rows back or so. Blood on the leaves ripped the tits off of everyone there.
See, I truly don't understand how people can look at him talking about being the biggest rockstar on the planet as him being negative. He's cocky and thinks very highly of himself, which I think we've already established is a common trait in modern music's most memorable front men (talking 60's and later). And, to be fair, there's few who can make a case as strong as his, given his critical and fan acclaim, status as one of the best performers alive and so on.
Putting aside the issue that many see that claim as delusional rather than cocky, the reason it can be construed as negative to me is that talent is self-evident. A beautiful woman doesn't have to go around telling the world she is beautiful. People can see that. A great boss doesn't have to go around telling people what a wonderful leader they are, because he shows them. When someone spends more time talking about how talented they think they are then they do actually performing their said talent, it comes off as bizarre, pathetic, and over-compensating, IMO, not to mention it's just plain annoying. It detracts from the entire point. Someone can be cocky and self-assured without being narcissistic. It's the difference between Bill Clinton and Kim Jong.
This.
sunfox78 and monster both summed it up better than I ever could.
Hell, the only reason I initially jumped into this zoo is because I initially thought the race card was being pulled far too frequently, and some of the defenses were quite frankly outlandish. E.g. AC pays him shit tons of money to return only to lower his sound volume. These type of arguments are intellectually dishonest at the very least.
But for shits and giggles...I've yet to see one of the Kanye worshippers address the fact that Kanye stated that "Fuck Kanye" was painted on the portos before he even got there in 2008. And we all know damn well this is just straight up bullshit. He just knew that most of the crowd in attendance wouldn't have the knowledge of that year to dispute this. But I also know that after all of the endless debates on this board, both after that debacle, and leading up to and after this performance, the people on this board know full well that isn't true. So my question is....that bullshit just gets a free pass I guess?
Because that's great you all thought he had inspirational messages and all....but after he straight up lies to the faces of tens of thousands of people to justify his last failure? for me? That's when it all turned to "blah blah blah".
