In addition to bringing plenty of TP, I always carry a ziploc bag with clorox wipes around with me. Those toilets get pretty funky and you def do not want to sit or hover above anything like that.

Hand sanitizer will become one of your best friends at Bonnaroo. Carry a damn Sharpie at all times...you never know who you will run into and want an autograph (Brian Poston for example). Last but not least, remember people wanna have fun just like you!!!

YES!!! I was sooo happy I did this last year! Those toilets (esp the ones in Centeroo) can get nasty! I also brought toilet seat covers. They have them in the camping section at Walmart. They're very inexpensive and worth every penny if you happen to lose you balance and touch the seat!!!
I loved having 3 ziploc baggies in my bag - one for Clorox wipes, one for personal wipes, one for TP. Had all my bases covered for the porta-potties.
Another one if you have never been to a festival - Thursday night going into Centeroo for the first time can be awesome... and it can be a bit overwhelming. I told myself, if Thursday night isn't cool, I can go home. Yeah, I didn't want to go home and kept coming back to Bonnaroo. When I got home I found out a lot of my friends also were overwhelmed or got a bad vibe at the gates the first time but after loved it. Don't judge an entire festival on one crowd.
You can't bring enough zip ties, bungee cords, duct tape or tarps!
I have a question about cameras since so many are saying take pictures. I have a rad digital SLR with a few different lenses. I reeeally wanna take it, but not sure I should. Would you guys?
I'd recommend keeping the DSLR at home. I just bought one, and I wouldn't dare take it to Bonnaroo with me. I'd be all anal about losing it or not being able to get it into Centeroo, etc. Last year I took a point and shoot in a ziploc bag (for the rain, which came in handy), but my camera phone was the best. Plus I could charge it easily in the car overnight and/or use it to post online for my friends who weren't as fortunate as me to be there. I know, I'm a geek.
A few other things - some things I did right as a rookie, and others gone terribly wrong.
1. Ponchos are good for everything and they're cheap. Have one on you at all times for keeping dry, and/or for sitting on. Mine came in handy... My boyfriend, who left his at the tent, would have been stranded had some festival staff not given him one when we got caught in the storm Thursday night in '09.
2. Wet wipes and hand sanitizer. 'Nuff said.
3. Make sure you stay hydrated in the day and find a little bit of time to take it easy if you want to make it through the awesome night shows.
4. Water bottles and squirt fans are heaven in that Tenn. sun.
and finally, the rookie mistake I DID make:
5. REAPPLY SUNSCREEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY. Especially if you're using the squirt fans or spray water bottles. My shoulders still have not recovered from '09 and are permanently a different color than the rest of my arm
An Inforoo newbie mistake is talking about druqs on the board. I will agree though. I have seen people messed up on all kinds of things and hurting themselves.
WATCH OUT FOR FRISBEES! I get hit by one every stinkin' year. One guy gave me money though. That was pretty sweet.

This. The first time I walked into Centeroo it was night time and raining and I had told my roo friends to go on with out me before leaving the tent..so I was alone..Totally overwhelming. Haha Plus it was my first festival. What a great experience though!

The problem is...he isn't really a newbie. He joined in April 2008, and should know better. This is also the guy who keeps perpetuating the Phil Lesh never returning myth, yet he has still never produced a source.
Security at the gate is always strictist on thursday and gets perpetually laxer as the festival goes on. Keep this in mind when bringing in party favors...
I haven't figured out if it's because securtiy is trying to set a strong first impression or if they're just stocking up their personal stashes to enjoy for the rest of the festival. I suspect a little of both.

2010 is my first Roo and I am soooo pumped! Two questions - what time is it best to arrive in Thursday morning? How does the departure process work?
I am flying to Los Angeles to Atlanta where my brother is scooping me up (around 1am on Thursdy morning) .... should we head straight there (3.5 hour drive) and get in line? Sleep an hour or two at a hotel nearby from 4am-? or should we park @ Walmart and get rest/shop?
My flight out is going to be 8am in Monday so I will need to leave no later than 3am on Monday morning...do I need to move the vehice close to the exit Sunday? Leave Sunday afternoon?

I can't answer your question about arriving but as for leaving on Sunday night, you don't have to worry about moving your car. I have always left in between 10 and 11pm Sunday night and had no issue getting out.

That Tent has a few threads on the best time to arrive. Each choice has its pluses and minuses.
Cover it with your neighbor about having to leave Sunday night in case they aren't. You probably won't have an issue, but it's nice to be courteous. Also, some people aren't in the best space for thinking by Sunday night, so talk with them early.
We know where you hide the beer and the drugs. But we dont realy care. We have to search a certain amount of people coming into centeroo. I work the VIP security next to the archway and the area that leads to the main stage. Were just doing the job we are getting paid for. We want to have fun to so please be nice. Some people are very rood about it and others have hung out with us to keep us company in the 4am time period(I even danced with some people and had a chugging contest at the check point. Lets just all have fun and get along this year and Bonnaroo can be great once again. P.S. If you get to bonnaroo the night before the festival opens come to the party in the wallmart parking lot. Its always fun early on before the place gets pasked and some people go crazy.

We got to Wal-Mart a little late and the cops were already telling people to clear out lol. The first year I went was 2007 and this kooky church guy was standing on top of his car and told all the Bonnawooks that they were going to hell. Someone lobbed a JD bottle at him and then a drunk lady punched him so hard he fell off his car. Wild stuff.

If you're a lil scrawny dude that looks like Geddy Lee and was working the VIP checkpoint in 08, sorry for pushing you out of the way. I paid too much money to wait for you to search me.

Paceing yourself can not be said enough. Preperation read all you can and retain all that you read here on the boards. The knowledge you gain is invaluable.

A rookie mistake that me and my crew made last year (my rookie year) was waiting in the front "Pit" area for a band, only to be shifted out once the previous band is done. Sounds stupid but I had no idea that they did that....we went to see Damian Marley and Nas and went straight to the front rail while some gospel group was playing....thought to myself "OK I'll just sit through this set(really wasn't that bad) and then I'll have a prime spot for DM and Nas".....wrong....once the gospel group was done everybody up front had to leave and the people that I neglected to notice waiting in line on the side filed in. Felt like a doofus, but I soon understood why when I had to wait on the side for 3 hours to get up front for Kings of Leon....IMO...not really worth it unless its a band that you LOVE!!...There's almost not a bad seat in the house....
