You're way too happy about that for someone who hates that team.
Anyway, yeah that stinks, but in 12 months Belichick gets to inherit the bullshit that Team Revis pulls. 16 games of top-CB play and then another auction to the highest bidder.

Can't really find an answer anywhere, maybe you know, can the Pats franchice him next year? Purely theoretically, and not will they, should they, etc... just from a can it happen standpoint? I really don't know the ins and outs of the tag itself and wasnt sure if it works for 1 year deals or what not and how it works when the player is actually the highest paid at a position. I'd imagine it will end messy anyways but just wondering if this is perhaps sublty their intent.

Short answer: yes.
The fact that neither side has officially announced it makes me think they're finalizing the deal, and one sticking point for Revis in his negotiations with the Jets was a "no franchise tag" clause. I wouldn't be surprised if he's fighting for that right now, and that's why they haven't made it official.
If he signed without one, they could theoretically use it.

I'm assuming the deal comes with a stipulation that he can't be franchised. He's a one-year rental. Obviously you'd prefer to lock him up for more years but at least this way you minimize risk. I'm actually pretty surprised Revis went for it, seems like he's leaving more on the table than the Pats organization, but the details aren't out there quite yet.
Glad to see the Patriots paying attention to the obvious trend though - cornerbacks are more valuable than ever. It has been a premiere position for years, but it's even more of a priority these days. The Patriots defense had a completely different identity with Talib on the field. Feels great to have his absence filled by one of the top 3 corners in the game.

I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning talking about Sproles possibly ending up in New England and some of the troubles they could cause defenses lining both him and Vereen up in the backfield. Sounds like a good fit. The Pats don't seem to usually give up much in trades. Maybe they could pick him up for a mid-round pick or two.
Well, he isn't on the Jets because he wanted to be handed the starting job, so that narrows it down to....Raiders? Who else would sign Vick to start right away? Browns have Hoyer and are drafting someone, so I don't know who else that leaves.
They just re-signed Cassell, and have Ponder. Not that I think either of them are good, but adding another $5 mil to the QB spot seems like excess. I guess they could be a dark horse.

Eagles got Sproles for a 5th round pick, not bad. I think he's gonna fit in perfectly and his stock should start to rise again, especially in PPR fantasy leagues.

I don't think Vick will be starting opening day. Who wants this guy? Unless he signs for close to nothing why waste the money. He's aging and he's still as injury prone as ever if not more. Time to hang up the cleats and open up an animal shelter or animal sanctuary. I see him being another shitty ex player/analyst, because there's not enough of those guys...
I hate when certain talking heads/ESPN pundits praise Elway for this kind of stuff. Last night I read so many tweets that were like "John Elway knows how to close deals! John Elway is a masterful GM!" He closed the deal because he overpaid, on the first day of free agency, and a few years from now when Denver is in full-on rebuild mode, they'll finally feel it.
To be fair, he got TJ Ward for far less than anticipated.
He has other guys deal with agents, then they bring a player to Mile High and he shakes hands with the ledge and he closes them. That's legit. But yeah in 2 years everyone will fucking hate him in Denver if these deals don't translate to a Super Bowl.
He needed another safety with less than adequate cover skills? I like TJ, but he doesn't cover, and to often looks for the big hit in run support.

Revis is #1 or #1A. Non-debatable. The only person in the discussion is Sherman.
What are you basing that on? Over the past two seasons Revis hasn't been the best, or even the second best. But if you're saying he's the best on what he can do the next few years, I agree with you.

That's what they need him for. Also, I think you're being a little rough on him re: coverage. When he played with Abe Elam he was quite good in coverage, but then they paired him with guys who couldn't play in the box so his responsibilities changed.
Getting him for that price value was solid. Not spectacular, but they didn't overpay which is the most important thing.
Until Revis displays the same dominance that he did pre-injury, it's Sherman #1, Revis #2. And I say that as a huge fan of RevisIsland.
Revis was the #1 rated QB on PFF last year. It's a negligible difference to me, but Revis has the slight edge since Sherman's 2013 wasn't on the same level as his 2012. They are the Peyton/Brady of the CB position, essentially. Argue about it until you're blue in the face, the order might change, but the top-2 won't.
Revis did display dominance, he just did it on a Greg Schiano team that went nowhere.
Depends on what you mean by dominance. They rarely let Revis do what he did with the Jets, which was follow around and shut down the opposition's best receiver, sometimes it was even a TE he marked. But he was still excellent in what he was asked to do. I'll be very interested if they do that in NE. I assume they will since it's what Talib did and that means not changing the scheme at all.

What are you basing this on. I base my ranking on film, PFF's ratings and advanced metrics.
Revis was the #1 CB on PFF last year. Done. He is elite and the only player that can argue against him as the top CB is Sherman, since he's basically just a bigger version of Revis.
Am I supposed to take the opinion of the guy who called Alterraun Verner "Vernon" seriously?
