A Deftones set at Roo would be amazing. I always felt bad for them getting lumped into that nu-metal genre. They put out ONE song "Back To School (Mini Maggit)" that was part of that genre, and it was part of a re-issue for White Pony in an attempt to increase sales.
Satruday Night Wrist, S/T, and Diamond Eyes have all been spectacular and the new record shows a return to a more abstract type of metal/hard rock. These guys would kill in a Which set!

Don't feel bad. They did it to themselves by rapping on a Korn album, touring with Incubus, and co-headlining a Family Values Tour. They chose the genre, let them keep it.

I love the Deftones and and think they are head and shoulders above pretty much anyone else in that vein, and would be great at Roo, but they have a LOT of nu-metal material. I'm not saying it was bad, because I like it, but Adrenaline was pretty much pure nu-metal (one of the first). Over all I would consider them "alternative metal" because most of their material isn't rap-influenced, but they sure have a lot of it. Calling them nu-metal isn't out of place.

Outside of Adrenaline, some of Around The Fur, and "Mini Maggit" I really don't think they have any hip-hop influenced stuff, and even that stuff is nothing campred to some of the other nu-metal bands of the late 90s/early 00s.
Some of their best amterial is the more Team Sleep-influenced stuff like "Teenager" and "Lucky You"...now a Team Sleep late night set would be amazzzzzzzing!

Incubus is awesome live but their last album was not good.
It actually brought me back into them. I consider A Crow Left of the Murder and Light Grenades 90% garbage. Caught them live fer the first time in 10 years at the DC101 Chili Cook-Off this year and I'll admit they can still put on a decent live show. But they'd be a skippable act at 'Roo fer me.
As fer you Deftones fans, I hope you get them finally. But personally I can't stand 'em.

Light grenades = garbage. A crow left of the murder = gold
Sick sad little world kills live, maybe even their best song they play live!, pistola is solid. Leach also solid. Maybe 2 or 3 weak songs, but overall not garbage IMO.
Both of these bands songwriting and live shows have declined with the new millienium. I saw Deftones in 2011 and it was really awful. I've seen Incubus 3 times and each show has been slightly worse since the Make Yourself tour. I became disinterested in both of these bands in the early 2000's and wouldn't waste my time seeing them again.

Deftones were not in their best form performance-wise in the early 2000's. Chino was apparently a pretty bad alcoholic. I've heard from a few of my friends who saw them during that time period and said the same thing. However, I saw them about a year or so ago and they were awesome, and my friend (actually the singer for my band) said that it was one of the best shows from them that he has seen. He has been going to see them since their "heyday" in the mid 90s.
Incubus I have never seen, and could honestly kind of care less about. I enjoy SCIENCE, Make Yourself, and Morning View enough, but not enough to go out of my way to see them. There last few releases have been horrid.

I saw Deftones in 2006 and loved them. If they played a set at Roo I'd totally be down.

It's the opposite for me. Thought they were great when I saw them in 2000 (I was also 16) but I walked away after like the 3rd song in 2011. It was rough.
saw them in 06 and this past summer. both shows were amazing so I'm not sure where the hate is coming from on their live show. people need to cut some slack on the 2011 tour with everything they were up against.

Hmm. I guess they had on/off nights. They sounded great (it's hard to sound bad at the Fillmore in Charlotte though) and had a great setlist:
Diamond Eyes Rocket Skates Around the Fur My Own Summer (Shove It) Lotion Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) Elite Digital Bath Knife Prty Prince You've Seen the Butcher Sextape Royal Risk Beauty School Back to School (Mini Maggit) Change (In the House of Flies) Birthmark Nosebleed
Encore: Engine No. 9 Root 7 Words
And let me correct myself by saying it was '10 when I saw them, I don't know if that matters.

Deftones added some Australian dates today in May that makes them a no go for Hangout, but they are still a possible addition for Roo and Coachella. They were also added to Ozzfest Japan recently. Even more interesting is that Tool was added to Ozzfest Japan today... sub-headlining before Sabbath.
