If we already have an American Horror Story thread, I apologize. But at the same time, the new season is an entirely new story. This show has such amazing storylines. It's the ultimate horror fans tv show. Anyone else out there love this show?
I have a rubber man suit ready for Halloween this year.
The new season is completely geared up to be a great story. It will be tough to top last season, I know, but I have high expectations already
There is the link for the old thread, but I agree that you could almost do two separate threads since the idea is that things have totally reset this season. The season premiere is waiting on me when I get home. I don't know if I quite have the courage to watch it alone in a dark room like I did with Walking Dead. There were some moments in the first season that creeped the sh*t out of me.
awesome first episode. as usual the actors are top notch. looks like asylum will be more physically gruesome than season 1, and the character development even more fascinating.
what the first season and asylum have in common so far are themes of despair and hopelessness, themes which are more horrific to me than any physical violence.
First off, Jessica Lange is smoking hot and will easily steal the show this season.
I think the first episode set up a lot of plot devices for the writers to use throughout the season. It held very little back. It seems to me like Lana and Sister Jude will be the major rivals of the season, though I wouldn't be surprised to see the "team up" against something or somebody later in the season...maybe the creepy doctor or the things he was feeding in the back.
I do agree that this season holds promise for much richer, and more interesting, character development. It also seems as if it will incorporate a great deal of sexuality simmering along with the plot line. The gore factor is ramped up as well.
I've always admired Jessica Lange, ever since "the Postman always Rings Twice"...she is a superb actress, and yes, she is smoking hot!
I have the first episode recorded and almost want to watch it again as I feel that there are multiple little details that will be important as the season goes on. Case in point: the little microchip thingy - where did it scurry off to and what will it be up to?
First episode was awesome!! I don't think it was as scary as the beginning of Season 1 but I think the plot is looking like it will be way more interesting.
Jessica Lange's character reminds me of Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
There are lot of shout-outs (or rip-offs, if you approach it that way) to other great films, mostly horror, sprinkled throughout the series.
I thought it was great that we got a little more background on Sister Jude; she either recently was or lives a double-life as a barroom flewzy that runs over innocent little girls. I love it.
Lana's reaction to Kit and the other chick escaping confused me a little. It makes me think that the asylum itself may have a supernatural hold on its inhabitants (think The Shining or House on Haunted Hill). The building itself being supernatural would also explain Adam Levine's untimely demise.
Finally, Dr. Arden is emerging as the scariest character on the show, and James Cromwell is totally killing it. My interest piques every time he is on camera.
Oh for sure...wasn't hatin'. I love shout-outs. I am already enjoying this season much more than the first. I think the whistle blow incident on the attempted escape was just a knee jerk reaction based on her past, involving the trust of her significant other (didn't she mention something about losing the trust from the person she loved the most?). She did not want that dude out and had already laid down the terms to whatsherface that he can't escape with them. Agreed on all points regarding James Cromwell.

I loved the second episode, but like others have said here I had a hard time understanding the motivation behind tattling on Kit. Sure she doesn't want a psychopath out on the loose, and maybe I'm just selfish, but my desire to escape from that truly terrifying hellhole will easily overcome any moral qualms I have about a SUPPOSED murderer getting out into the world... especially given the evidence I have regarding how psychotic the managers of the asylum are, given they made a huge mistake about me, it would be easy to convince myself they made a mistake regarding the murderer as well.
So I don't totally buy the motivation, and it irked me a little. Drives me nuts in a story when character's actions don't make logical sense.
I am totally hooked on the story this season, I think it will ultimately blow season one out of the water.

I didn't think you were hatin'...I've just heard the rip-off argument from other friends who watch the show. I will say that Bloody Face and the eye things Dr. Arden put on Kit in episode one do come off as a bit lazy (Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Clockwork Orange, respectively). You can pay homage to great themes from past films without shamelessly ripping them off.
I'm glad to see everyone else is confused by the whistle blowing incident. I think that is going to really drive the plot, one way or another, in the immediate future of the story.

Due to Moogfest, I just got around to watching the second episode last night.
The tattling did strike me as a little odd, but not to the extent that it seemingly did to the rest of you. LawnGnome brought up a great point about the potential for supernatural hold on the residents. If you noticed, you saw her have a tear run down her cheek after she yelled. The most obvious answer is that she was upset about betraying someone she had befriended. A different viewpoint would be that it was a sign of resistance/regret from what the asylum forced her to do.
James Cromwell is creepy as f*ck. It will be interesting to see how the hooker escaping will cause him problems in the long run.

I was going to start watching this, but I refuse to watch anything with Cromwell in it - unless he dies. He and I have a personal history and I consider him my nemesis. So please let me know if his character dies on the show - then I can start watching.

He is not in the first season at all if you haven't watched that.
I actually seem to remember hearing someone say they weren't watching this season because of Adam Levine. I wonder if they know he is gone now after 5 minutes of screen time?

Agreed. People are on the express train to crazy this season. I was surprised at how well the actress playing the younger nun did with the turn.
Was that an alien Jessica Lange ran into during the storm? Was there a higher motivation for Arden cutting off the girl's legs or was it just to be an ass/feed his creatures?
My first impression is what/who is f*cking with Sister Jude. The obvious answer is the possessed younger nun; the alien encounter makes me question that assumption, though she did see it while she was intoxicated.
What the hell are the creatures in the woods? Are they zombies, or zombie redneck torture family <wink wink>?
Dr. Arden isn't redeemable at this point; Sister Jude and the younger nun still are. He will not have any protagonistic role in the story. I just wonder how dark the writers will allow him to be. Cutting that girls legs off made me cringe.
Well damn. Just caught up with the most recent episode. Anne Frank? Really? This could be really cool so long as Ryan Murphy doesn't start making everything ridiculous just for the sake of being ridiculous like with Nip/Tuck. Love the direction Dr. Arden is finally going in though, he grows darker and darker with each episode.
This shiz gets creepier every week. Yes, there are some gimmicks that have been seen before, but the writing is brilliant nonetheless. What's up with the schoolchildren and teacher seeing the thing on the stairs?
Easily the best episode so far. I feel like I should have seen the Dr. Thresdale-as-Bloodyface thing earlier; I never questioned his motives with breaking Lana out of there. Also, the aliens are real and Dr. Arden is really a Nazi.
Was anyone else overwhelmed by the sexism theme this week (I mean that in a good way)? Sister Jude being neutered by Dr. Arden's threats and the knowledge that the male establishment won't side with her. Anne Frank/Charlotte's lobotomy and the potential for a woman to lose her identity at the will of her husband and demands of her family. I thought this was the most sophisticated writing I've seen so far.
Dr. Thredson as Bloodyface totally caught me off guard. I did not see it coming. I wonder if Dr. Arden and he are somehow connected or its just a coincidence that two madmen happened to be at the asylum at the same time.
I noticed all the sexism as well. I hope Sister Jude comes back to overturn the male establishment. Let's see what happens next week!

Dr. Thredson caught me totally off guard as well. I did like the way they did the sudden shift to it with her telling "his" story, the lampshade and the mint dish. Like Lawngnome said, the writing for that episode was really good. I share Banshee's concern about this going the way of Nip/Tuck, but this episode certainly helped me keep faith.
I am curious as to why the demon nun put Chloe Sevigny in the school yard rather than the woods. It points to her selling out Arden, but it makes me wonder what the demon's end game is.
Lastly, Jessica Lange and Zachary Quinto are wrecking shop this season. They are on the fast track to some award nominations if there is any justice in the world.
