Uh oh... I'm going to be in trouble. My parents weren't sure if they can make it this year or not, but they asked me to pick up two two-days for them. I did not.
We wanted to take a moment and thank you profusely for your loyalty and trust in helping us sell out tickets for Saturday, July 27th. We also wanted to let you know that Sunday, July 28th, is not far behind so if you plan on coming don't delay. If you are looking to come to the festival for only one day, there are still tickets left for Friday and it's a lower ticket price.
As many of you know, we have begun rolling out the names of the 2013 Artists. We wanted each artist to have their due and rightful attention, so please take a moment and read the exclusive announcements that have accompanied each artist from bloggers, artists, folk fans like yourselves, and even our founder George Wein. We hope you are enjoying them as much as we are.
In other Newport Folk news, this last weekend we had our second Newport Folk Presents show with the Folk favorites, Punch Brothers, at the House of Blues. Overall it was a whopping success and a tremendous night of music. As leader Chris Thile announced from the stage, "this is the biggest show we've had. Way to go Boston." Newport Folk Presents is also excited to announce that we have been asked by the good people at SXSW to host a showcase during the annual music conference in Austin. (to see the digital poster click here). We really like helping produce these unique events, and plan on bringing more to you in 2013.
Again, it's you, our folk, that make everything we do worth it, and for that we are sincerely grateful.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
ALWAYS buy the ticket. Always. If you can't get the time off, you can always sell these things later.
Lesson learned the hard way I guess. I will be hunting hard for a ticket, its a long drive to risk it at the gate. Also if anyone up there hears of a ticket for sale let me know.
I just wish they would have released the whole lineup at once like they usually do. I would be all over this again if it didn't sell out so quickly and I could have seen a whole lineup. I'm not in a position at this point in my life to drop hundreds of dollars on a whim. I need some significant substance before I commit. I mean it worked fine for Newport. Just damn, I'm kinda getting sick of this trend of festivals selling out before a lineup even is announced.

Not many fests "sell out" before the lineup - the closest that really does this is Coachella, and they still have a few tickets left post-lineup. Others do massive pre-sales. And I agree that it can be somewhat annoying because, at least for these larger fests, there are people who buy tickets lineup unseen just because it's cool to do so (I think Coachella is a prime example of this). Personally, I enjoy it, simply because it makes the anticipation that much better.
Even with this in mind, NFF is somewhat different. A lot of people who go to NFF are going to go no matter what. It's a pretty good bet that if you like the lineup in 2012, you'll like it in 2013. There may be more "wow" acts per your personal tastes from one year to the next, but it's generally a pretty similar vibe. Also, from what I can tell it's a VERY regional fest: there aren't a ton of people who make this their "big" summer fest and travel from far away to see it, like they would with something around the lines of Bonnaroo, Coachella, etc. Therefore, an early sale makese sense for most people because it's easy to plan for.

You're right that most fests don't sell out before the lineup. ACL is the one I was thinking about that does pretty much every damn year. Sasquatch sold out almost immediately after tix went on sale this year. Coachella usually does this too. It's just kinda mind blowing for someone that has been around the block a few times when it comes to festivals. I'm seeing a larger sea change though in the "indie" and "folk" scene. Even smaller shows here in Philly that I never used to think would sell out, are doing so.
I feel like as the youngins that have grown up in the digital age and have been groomed to find their music online rather than the radio, as they get older they are increasingly flocking to "indie" and "folk" bands(I use those terms broadly). As these youngins get to festival age they flock to these fests and they sell out quicker than some of us are used to. I don't have any hard evidence to back this up, but it feels in my heart that this is what's happening more and more. It's exciting and frustrating all at once.

Yeah, I mean. I get the frustration. I've just learned the hard way that I'd rather throw a ticket charge on my credit card now, and then sell them later, than miss out on something I'd like to go see.
Are you able to suggest any good listening material from them?
I tried getting into them when I saw them open up for Bright Eyes and their sound seemed a little too generic to me. But maybe I was sampling the wrong stuff.
PS. They're the first bigger band booked for Friday
