lol The Suzies!!
Hey Longinus....this lineup made it easy...lets get rid of the B'Ham Godspeed tix. Way less driving now! We gotta hit up both of the Dennis Nelson sets on Saturday. He is definitely the highlight of the festival IMHO. His jazztent show is gonna be crazy.......he did Santana two years ago, Hendrix last year. No telling what he'll do this year. Bringin' my Dad for Willie.

Mobile locals with horrible taste (which is like 95% percent of Mobile).
This is why we can't book anything worth a shiz here...not enough people will show up to even cover half the cost of booking most acts. We cannot book any metal or punk anymore unless they are really cheap and that is very sad. Jam/funk bands and some indie/dance stuff do alright though.

Bands worth checking out: FRIDAY- Excelsior Band- The oldest band in Mobile. They are Mardi Gras legends, good jazz music. Phunk Blue Moon- I'm friends with the drummer, they are funk-rap I guess you would say. They jam out and have two MCs, tight musicians and good party band.
SATURDAY- Mob Towne Revival- Also funky rap rock, with horns. They are a good party band as well. Worth checking out. Most of the local heads at the fest will be at this to support them so you will be able to rage. Grayson Capps- This is a NOLA street performer originally. My buddy used to watch him on Royal Street every Sunday morning over there.....swampy nola goodness. Kinda hard to piegonhole him. He headlined "Malaga Fest" in Mobile recently and that was a fun party! DJ Trey Stein & Chris Spies- Trey is a solid DJ and Spies is a local jamband legend, he's been rocking forever. Haven't seen them together, it will be a rager for sure. DENNIS NELSON- I cannot stress how crucial it will be to see him. He's doing two shows on Saturday. The first one is at the "black people stage", there will be chairs in your way everywhere, so just go to Bienville square and rage. He is the best guitar player to come out of Mobile, definitely. Psychedelic jamming over a funk big band! His 2nd set is THE SET of the weekend, IMHO, at the Jazztent. This guy rages so f'n hard. He did a Santana set two years ago and a Hendrix set last year. He can easily shred any classic psych into the sky. The Santana set was my all time fav Bayfest moment besides Alice In Chains '07.
SUNDAY- Rollin' In the Hay- awesome jamgrass band, always a party. Ashlea Penquite- Really cool chick, excellent singer songwriter. If you have your girlfriend with you make sure you go to this to get good behavior points.
Handsome Scoundrels and Johnny No are also worth checking out.

I have a feeling Pat Benatar is gonna be quackin' awesome. Sunday's Coke Stage is so good with that Franti<Potter combo. Too bad only people who listen the ZEW or go to Hangout know who they are. I hope this does better than they expect and not by the comments on the Fbook page. We need BayFest's lineups to be more Hangout/DeLuna like than the same top 40 crap year in and year out.

Bayfest will always have a good crowd weather permitting.
Not sure why they started doing a ticket cap last year, it's never been an issue before. I guess too many stupid people that don't know how to navigate crowds complained or chair people made it a safety issue.

Tonight should be interesting. Loverboy > Pat Benatar > Journey > last half of Pretty Lights > Big Freedia (SK)
postjack, if you're not already aware, MiMOSA is doing a late night show at Boo Radley's. That is supposedly on the low down though from what I was told. My response: "Who gives a Quack? That bar quacking sucks and Big Freedia will be infinitely more fun that seeing a DJ in a shizzy bar."
So yeah, I'll be booty poppin' with the other hetti ladies over at the Soul Kitchen. roll tide?

Thats what I heard. We missed Bush. They ended early, we were gonna check them out after Willie. Willie was super badass. He played a new 'gospel song", "roll me up and smoke me when I die". Might be my fav Willie song now

My Darkest Days was so bad!! That frontman looked like that character from Guitar Hero. They covered my favorite Duran Duran song though, that was kinda cool.
1.) Willie Nelson 2.) Zombo Combo 3.) Journey 4.) Dennis Fingerroll Nelson 5.) Pat Benatar
I had a great time at Mimosa and Pretty Lights but that was just me dancing around with my friends. Def enjoyed Mimosa more though. Pretty Lights ain't shizt without the drummer. Just another dj.

We had a blast Friday night at Mimosa/PL. Mimosa was fun but on stage the guy comes across as such a summers breeze in a sac. Everytime an R&B vocal sample was used he'd do that thing where he slowly pulled up his tank top to show everyone his abs. It did get me rock hard but still, summers breezey.
PL was a blast, but if I'm being honest I'd probably had about enough at the 90 minute mark. Repetitive and all that. His light show was pretty spectacular. Last time I saw him was at the Soul Kitchen a few years ago, he has definitely come up since then.
One of the coolest things I've ever seen from a festival was the security guards at PL handing out case after case of free bottled water. It was wild. Anyone who wanted a bottle of water got one, just signal to a security guy and he handed you one, gratis. I've never seen anything like this at a fest, it totally goes against profitability but contributes greatly toward harm reduction. Looking at it from a business perspective, its a wise move for a fest booking EDM for the first time that wants to avoid headlines about kids going to the ER during the show. Regardless of the motivation it was a really cool thing.
I did have a problem with the crowd. Not the kids, they were actually great, I had chats with lots of younger folks who were having their minds blown and were generally well behaved, aside from the typical fest amateur not totally respecting your space thing. But the amount of general unprovoked jerkstorery I had to deal with from the general bayfest trash was ridiculous. Hate to be a negative nancy, was just my experience.
Furthermore, I hate to sound elitist, but I wish bayfest would up the ticket prices and book pricier and better acts. Higher ticket prices generally brings a headyr crowd. I can deal with drunken buffoonery and that particular brand of selfish jerkstorery it brings, but people that just yell shiz at you to be mean and Quack with you at a show just to provoke you into a confrontation? My mind does not compute.
So in a lot of ways Bayfest this year made me proud of my city, and in other ways I continue to be disappointed. I believe Mobile has made great strides toward a more progressive downtown scene over the last ten years, and I hope we continue to move in that direction.
