Roo is better because there's not as many conflicts and there's late night shows....more music for your $.
Roo is different. Not better.
Some people prefer to not have late night shows and believe conflicts create more room in the audience so crowds aren't as dense.
Personally I love the Roo late nights. They are one of my favorite things about the festival. But there are some folks who would rather be back at the hotel or going out with friends after a festival set as opposed to staying up til 4 to rock out at a stage.
Radiohead, prince, muse, chili peppers, etc...and they are lucky if they get 1 mill, but they normally only get 500 k
then you have third tier : snoop, dre, J z...they get 100 k
then you have 4th tier : black keys, munford byoncee, Prince etcc: they get 50k
But you just said you've never been to Coachella, so how is Roo "better?" I would say I have seen an average of 30 shows per festival at either, so it's the same amount of music, really. Why are you planning to go if you seem so down on it?
I shouldn't have said better, but my intuition and the rumors are telling me Roo will be better this year. I really loved the lineup Coachella had last year...that's why I bought a ticket this year. If it's disappointing, I won't be mad at all. I already have a backup plan.

Fair enough. Just saying, you spend that extra money for way more than untz and clean grounds. It's one of the best-run festivals in the country and each day is packed with stuff you'll want to see from 12-12.

I hate to make the "their just different" argument, but, well ..... I love the Bonnaroo late nights, I'm very much looking forward to being able to go to Coachella every morning showered and decently well rested, rather than having to worry about pacing myself so I can stay up till sunrise 3 days in a row.

For Coachella, I don't think record sales in past years is a top criteria when they're looking at headliners or even pre-headliners. I mean, My Bloody Valentine was just below HL a couple of years ago and they've never had an album (all two of them) chart in the US at all.
Nor EPs, Live albums, compilations, etc. Not a single charting piece of music and yet, they were the Pre-HL for the Cure.
Sure - not the same as a HL per se, but I think the concept for who they want as their heavy hitters applies here. Who have people not really seen and seem to pine for and will move the needle for sales and attendance? Blur would do that, I believe.

I hate to make the "their just different" argument, but, well ..... I love the Bonnaroo late nights, I'm very much looking forward to being able to go to Coachella every morning showered and decently well rested, rather than having to worry about pacing myself so I can stay up till sunrise 3 days in a row.
I agree. There are pros and cons to each. I get so tired of the "THIS FESTIVAL IS BETTER THAN THAT FESTIVAL!". I could see many benefits of choosing one over the other. Just comes down to what you're looking for in a festival experience as well as type of music.

Blur has had a couple hit songs over here, have worldwide appeal, and just made a celebrated return with several high profile gigs during the Olympics. Tell me how they're not bigger than Pulp.

I'd really like to check this out but it always conflicts with my busiest time of the year, football season. Were the LN shows in clubs? Could you hop around between them if so?

I liked FFFF's lineup a lot (not as much as FYF though), but you're comparing apples and oranges. Smaller, niche-oriented fests can get away with lineups like that because they're only trying to attract a certain number of attendees. They're not looking to pull close to 100K, so they don't need the goofy mainstream major headliners or cheese EDM or anything. Similar to how Pitchfork, Sasquatch, etc. operate.

Blur is way bigger than any of the other bands people are citing for comparisons (Pulp, MBV). They have cult status in the U.S. I'm in no way saying that they are the headliner Goldenvoice was dreaming of when they started booking, but clearly they're having some trouble getting acts and I think them settling on Blur as a headliner is pretty likely.

Like I said, I'm not betting anyone anything. And I completely agree that they're bigger than Pulp. But do I think they're as big as Radiohead, Paul McCartney, The Killers, Kanye West, Muse, Gorillaz, The Black Keys, etc.? Not in the US. I know overseas popularity is a factor, but this is still a US fest. I really could see them on the top line, but as #2, not #1.
Also, using your logic, The Stones Roses could headline Coachella too, since they're close to Blur in popularity in the UK (at least that's the impression I'm under).

They had headliners on all 4 stages, they just weren't quite that big. Sorta like Blur and Phoenix size headliners, ya know. semi-joke there... Seriously though. They had Slayer in 2011. Slayer is bigger than quacking Blur and Phoenix in the US, but they didn't even headline Mayhem fest last year (Slipknot did). Another argument in your favor concerning Coachella can let anyone they think is ready to headline if you are right.

yes, all of the clubs downtown are pretty close to each other. I hopped around quite a bit and caught some great shows at different venues thurs, fri, and sat night.

If the headliners are in fact Blur and Phoenix, I'll be let down if the closer isn't a "big" get. I just can't see them following up last years, now legendary closing performance with something subpar. I want more. Even though I spend the majority of my time in the outer realms I'd still like the option to see something huge.

The Blur would draw a bigger crowd at Coachella than the Killers. I'm fairly confident in that.
Juggs, $350 is a pretty hefty bet and considering you're the source of the Macca "confirmation" I'm hesitant to make such a big bet, since you seem to have industry connections and know something I don't. If you don't have any inside information, and I'm going to take you on the honor code, i'll bet $100.
