Chicago Bears 12-4
9/9 INDIANAPOLIS W 9/13 at Green Bay L 9/23 ST. LOUIS W 10/1 at Dallas W 10/7 at Jacksonville W 10/14 Off Week 10/22 DETROIT W 10/28 CAROLINA W 11/4 at Tennessee W 11/11 HOUSTON L 11/19 at San Francisco L 11/25 MINNESOTA W 12/2 SEATTLE W 12/9 at Minnesota W 12/16 GREEN BAY W 12/23 at Arizona W 12/30 at Detroit L
Looks naive on paper, but with a soft schedule and some decent receiving, I think we've got a good shot at taking the North from GB & Detroit. Worst case scenario, a 10-6 wildcard.

Rob Ryan gets a lot of run for a guy that's never had a top 15 defense. Now, he didn't have any talent when he was here, but his need to get out of Buddy and Rex's shadows fueled some crazy blitz packages.

He had some good defenses in Oakland, but you're basically right. Maybe it's been a product of the talent they've had, but Rex has never had a defense finish out of the top 5 except for last year, and the Jets' defense was the #2 defense on a per-drive basis (indicating their ranking was greatly influenced by the positions their offense put them in).
Rob has never had anything like that level of success, but Rex also has had the Ravens' and Jets' defenses (Jets were 16th in 2008, which isn't bad), while Rob had the Raiders', Browns' and Cowboys' which didn't have nearly as much overall talent.

Oddly enough, if Randy Lerner hadn't rushed out to hire Mangenius in 2008/9 just before Rex got the Jets job, Rob would have gone with him.
Rob spent his entire time here talking about being a head coach, when maybe he should have spent a little more time worrying about being the DC.

Yesterday might just have been the second shizziest day of football fandom in my life. Number 1, by far, was not Red Right 88, The Fumble, or The Drive, but Nov. 6, 1995, the day they announced the Browns were moving. I always figured when the man that fired Paul Brown, drove Jim Brown into retirement, and basically messed up our team to the point that my father told his 6 yr old son to "love the Browns, but never expect them to win a Super Bowl as long as this arse hat owns the team" died, I would feel some level of joy. I'm glad to say other than an initial thought of "good riddance", I felt nothing at all.
Oddly enough, his death yesterday, and everyone in the national media running to declare his sainthood really served to reopen all of the old wounds from 16 years ago. Stupid, and extremely confusing. Sorry for venting.

As far as the actual games, Giants/Cowboys was a thrilling opener to the season. I was impressed with the Cowboys ability to close out the game, even in the face of a late surge by Eli and the Giants offense. Cant wait till Sunday!

will be interesting to hear.

We would be getting a late start, but anyone want to do a fantasy football league? We could draft next week and just start with week 2. I will set it up if there are at least 8 of us.
The Pats are primed for a heavy offensive year with McDaniels back as the OC, which is all I care about since I have Brady in both my fantasy leagues. Also the AFC is wide open this year. As long as the D plays a little better than last year, the Pats will cake walk to the Super Bowl......

And then lose to the Bears.
I finally think it's actually the Ravens year.
And the Pats O-line could be super shaky, but their schedule isn't exactly difficult. They get the AFC South and the NFC West.

Should be interesting to see, we're planning on turning our backs in silence if they do have it during or just before the game.
The team of the century better be able to beat a rookie qb leading 26 players with 1 year or less of experience. I don't expect to walk out of the stadium singing Fly Eagle Fly (what NFL time has a friggin fight song??) or TO TO TO TO Turn Over like we did in Jacksonville after Super Bowl XXXIX, but the memories are still grand.

Yeah. Their schedule consists of the three weakest divisions in the NFL.
I could see the Ravens, but unless you see not going to the Super Bowl a down year for the Pats, which lets be honest, it pretty much is. The Pats are pretty much guaranteed one of the top 2 seeds in the AFC playoffs.

Yeah, don't expect a down year from the Pats when they still have Gronk/Hernandez/Welker and went out and added Brandon Lloyd, who has looked amazing in camp. Especially not when they're facing what might be the softest schedule in the league.
